The explanations of an "augment virus" is, in my opinion, ludicrous even by Star Trek standards and it ruined the charming, light hearted in-joke we got during "Trials and Tribbleations" which was a really lovingly crafted episode that contained so much fun, heart and dedication. Genetic augmentation on Earth was banned in the Star Trek Universe for a reason, and the relevant episode suggests that the Klingons had little or no experience with genetic engineering, let alone with alien DNA. It's possible that human lymphocytes or neuro-chemicals combined with similar Klingon characteristics caused an infectious mutation.

I think it is really stupid and unnecessary plus as I outlined above, int his case they ruined a completely perfect and impressive way of dealing with the "issue" just because ENT couldn't survive without having Borg, Klingons and other things in it which weren't supposed to be a thing in this era. If you want to make a prequel you should make a prequel and not a sequel and simply call it one.

because of first contact, borg were ALWAYS going to be a thing in that era
If you follow the canon storyline yes, but the real life decision to even have Borg in ENT is because they thought that the show couldn't survive without constant franchise recognition of elements that weren't supposed to be here. ENT does take place in the post-FC timeline whereas the Ent-E returned to the one original timeline without them (otherwise events following ENT - in-universe - didn't make sense). And that was my point, ENT was a terrible show since they abandoned the premise right fromt he beginning (literally in the first episode).

I can give you mine. Different sexes. Reptiles and fish can show a massive degree of sexual dimorphism and it beats the same boring 'different species' or 'subspecies' or even 'genetically engineered' tropes. It's certainly more interesting to me. I'd assume the ENT one was female and the TOS/TAS one was male.

I don't recall ever having said anything in that regard besides it's stupid. They replaced a practical effect with terrible CGI - to me, a Gorn is a TOS Gorn. The ENT Gorn aren't even in my head when I think of Gorn, just like they majorly bucked up Targs by replacing a wild boar with a wig with terrible CGI. The one Gorn in TAS we see seems to be largely the same as the TOS one.

the only thing that doesn't are the character/creature models and some planetary stuff; everything else looks detailed enough that i expect it took many, expensive, man-hours to make, and even more so to texture and animate (which as any game modder knows, is the part that is the most difficult and therefore takes the most time)

Even with the LEGO genetics on display so very much in Trek, genes don't work that way. You can't insert a DNA chain using a retrovirus and get gross anatomical changes in an adult. The only way that could possibly work is by altering the subject's DNA, then having them have children. Or, for a more controlled (although even worse ethically speaking) method, use the retrovirus or other genetic-splicing method on an embryo. It's a lot easier to induce epigenetic changes when the organism is still in development.

To be fair, is the idea of an 'augment virus' so ludicrous? Genetic augmentation on Earth was banned in the Star Trek Universe for a reason, and the relevant episode suggests that the Klingons had little or no experience with genetic engineering, let alone with alien DNA. It's possible that human lymphocytes or neuro-chemicals combined with similar Klingon characteristics caused an infectious mutation.

To me it is. I don't buy anything Star Trek tries to explain with "genetics" which usually result in bone structure changing in real time when becoming "infected" and the effects can be reversed with a hypospray just as well. Hell, the Doctor simply reversed the transformation to Lizards by waving his hand without any consequences at all. I like Star Trek, but whenever they try to explain something that is not complete made-up space magic it's a train wreck.
The reason I reject the Klingon augments is simply because I didn't need in-universe explanations for real life circumstances. I think it is really stupid and unnecessary plus as I outlined above, int his case they ruined a completely perfect and impressive way of dealing with the "issue" just because ENT couldn't survive without having Borg, Klingons and other things in it which weren't supposed to be a thing in this era. If you want to make a prequel you should make a prequel and not a sequel and simply call it one.

If you follow the canon storyline yes, but the real life decision to even have Borg in ENT is because they thought that the show couldn't survive without constant franchise recognition of elements that weren't supposed to be here. ENT does take place in the post-FC timeline whereas the Ent-E returned to the one original timeline without them (otherwise events following ENT - in-universe - didn't make sense). And that was my point, ENT was a terrible show since they abandoned the premise right fromt he beginning (literally in the first episode).

I can give you mine. Different sexes. Reptiles and fish can show a massive degree of sexual dimorphism and it beats the same boring 'different species' or 'subspecies' or even 'genetically engineered' tropes. It's certainly more interesting to me. I'd assume the ENT one was female and the TOS/TAS one was male.

I don't recall ever having said anything in that regard besides it's stupid. They replaced a practical effect with terrible CGI - to me, a Gorn is a TOS Gorn. The ENT Gorn aren't even in my head when I think of Gorn, just like they majorly bucked up Targs by replacing a wild boar with a wig with terrible CGI. The one Gorn in TAS we see seems to be largely the same as the TOS one.

True, but this still means I can have an opinion on the ones used in the game as I have seen them. So, to asnwer that question @ryan218 I don't like that interpretation of them. The Gorn were never shown to be even close to a "raptor"-esque dinosaur, so I really don't know where they got the idea from. It'd have been better to simply invent an original race for the game, as other Star Trek games before did.

I was indeed referring to the video-game portrayal, and honestly, I agree with you. It's all the dumber since ENT had already 'modernised' the Gorn into something approaching realism (as opposed to a paper machet suit with plastic eyeballs they had to use at the time), and had done so in such a way that it was at least recognisable as a Gorn. In the show, they had more in common with crocodiles in appearance than with dinosaurs.

Even with the LEGO genetics on display so very much in Trek, genes don't work that way. You can't insert a DNA chain using a retrovirus and get gross anatomical changes in an adult. The only way that could possibly work is by altering the subject's DNA, then having them have children. Or, for a more controlled (although even worse ethically speaking) method, use the retrovirus or other genetic-splicing method on an embryo. It's a lot easier to induce epigenetic changes when the organism is still in development.
