So are you trying to say that the flambard science t6 variant of the scimitars, whose release was delayed to milk the t5 scimtar sales, would have received the same purchases in total IF bFAW was not in the current state that it is?
Personally I wouldn't have as what other purpose doesn't it really serve other than a beam boat?
A lot of the t6 traits on zen ships also are geared towards bfaw and the related synergies...
You are entitled to your opinion as I mine, however saying that a certain ship is "silly" when I used the term "meta zen ship" which translates exactly to what it is. Beam FAW is the current top meta dps and the fleet variant scimitars quite literally only fit effectively as a beam boat. Can you run other builds? Of course, but why buy a 5-7 turn rate truck that goes QQ more then pew pew? Or would you buy a cruiser/escort which keeps your weps on target and is way more efficient?
Hence the term "meta zen ship."
My whole point is these changes were in the works long before they were announced and just milked sales of the clunkers... which is what pisses me off
Thank you for that bit of info. As a non pc player and it sounds like you were in game during the content and ship releases, how many of the dreadnaughts did you see flying around when Science/torps and cannons were the meta?

The Gal-X was always popular as a fan favorite, and from what I can remember was the only real dreadnaught for a long time. In terms of beam boats, they've also always been popular, though before omnis and 5/3 ship layouts beam boat generally meant 7-8 beam array broadsides.
I'd think its the 1st two options. Assuming I'm not misreading option2.
Cryptic does want to even out the captain types since there is no traditional trinity of roles in STO to speak of.
I do think Cryptic wants to limit the insane DPS that can be done. It makes it hard to design a game when the dps frequency curve is the 'bathtub' instead of the bell curve.
Tac captains dont need to be 'punished' for doing what Cryptic has allowed them to do. But if players are doing things that the devs didn't consider, then a rethinking needs to be done. Reminds me of way back when (an old man's thoughts drift off to the past...) I played a CCG with a friend. I had an 'unbeatable' deck he couldn't counter. Then one day a new guy showed up with a deck build neither of us had thought of and nuked us both easily.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

Yet they keep on selling DPS with each release.

Ok, keep the bathtub. just make it shorter!

Why nerf skills that everyone uses (low dps & high dps alike) expecting that it will somehow narrow a performance gap which is result of other combinations of skills/items/etc..?

Sadly most of the players in this game are scrubs. They are not bad players or anything just have their infinite individual ideas of what they want to work best compared to what actually does. With the current change the field of what is good to slot will be less narrow. The ideas of the scrubs will have a better chance to at least work compared to the meta.

Cryptic tries to balance the game: "They're doing it as part of an evil plan to make money! How dare a company try to make money!" Cryptic doesn't try to balance the game: "They don't care about us or the game, just their money!"
Seems like no matter what they do, people talk trash about them. I'm thankful for the huge list of changes, especially the balance pass to the embassy consoles, making the hull and shield repairing variants more useful, and for the reduction in temporal power damage to players and the ability of armors to increase physical damage resistance now.

As a very new player this whole situation confuses me a bit. I keep seeing comments that seem to indicate many players prefer the most powerful items be something you can only get from lobi and lock boxes. If I am not mistaken, those items are typically acquired with real world money. (Although I understand they can be acquired with EC if you've got an ample supply. Which the typical new player like me does not have.)
This seems to indicate that many people like the idea of pay to win. Is this correct? And if it is would it be safe to assume that a subscription was a bad decision on my part and that maybe I should cancel such and just buy zen instead (after buying the EC limit upgrade)?
I am skeptical that these changes do anything to make the low dps "options" any more viable than before. But I'm interested in testing this theory. After maint is over I'll parse comparative data between holodeck & tribble, and I'll post my results.
I wish I could change my vote. Because I started off as pretty optimistic, but after the release of the new tribble build I have a much more cynical view.

No they've scaled the content to meet the console and abilities. Now they're destroying a console central to the majority of players builds and nerfing abilities that DONT NEED IT without scaling back the content.
NO ONE is going to get a pug that can do advanced content when this goes live....at least no one that's not doing 60-100k dps right now.
This is BY FAR the largest nerf the game has had in its history...BY FAAAAR. It will either kill it off, or they will roll it back and give away zen like candy and apologize to save the game. There are no other futures here.
The changes don't seem that bad to me. From what was said in the official thread with the patch notes it seems the higher the FAW or BO you take the less the hit you take to accuracy and such. Torpedoes sound like they'll be more fun to use especially with the HY changes. Chain firing Romulan rep plasma torpedo launcher might be a thing again which really was fun to do when it first came out between that and BIG RED BALL OF DEATH ship.
Releasing of ships that literally are meta zen ships for FAW builds
I'm honestly curious, what ships do you mean?
All of them. If you HONESTLY answered any noob in your fleet about the single best way to increase their DPS you would tell them to get a leech, then two copies of FAW if they could do both. If you didn't you're either lying to us or you lied to them.

No offense, but you aren't that good at math/theory crafting or both....
With the numbers on FAW minus leech you won't be able to kill advanced content in under an hour.
The way I see it is this; We have 10 cars and 9 of those cars drive 100kph but 1 of them drives 250kph. To resolve this, the powers that be have reduced the overall speed of all the cars by 30%. Does that action narrow the gap between the 250kph car and the other 9 100kph cars?
because they opened a new market, and the feedback wasn't the misty eyed adoration they've been used to since they stopped talking to the forums...and maybe someone at executive level is holding a proverbial gun to their h eads and saying "Get serious about this or we're pulling your funding. The Game has potential beyond shovelware and if you don't get on the stick about it, we'll find someone else who will."
Well THIS will boost their adoration for SURE....bawwhahahahahahahahahahaaa
