The poll options you give are too limited. In my opinion the adjustments are only being made to:

    a) Close the wide performance gap in the playerbase a little in order to be able to maintain only 2-3 difficulty settings (less work).

    b) Open new ways to generate revenue associated a with new gear/ability meta (more $).

    c) Conceal a general helplessness to run a videogame filled with 90% scrubs.

performance gap is not because of overpowered skills; its result of overpowered consoles/mastery traits from lobi store & the limitless stacking of damage bonus' & other stats.

As a fun fact expensive lobi consoles have been outdone by cheap fleet consoles for years now. It’s the majority of this game’s players who are not happy with that and basically ask for the good stuff to be hard to get again.

I would also not dismiss the talent and experince of different players. ;)

Take me, I have the same stuff as Felisean. Yet he does 3 times as much DPS than i do. Life is either unfair or he is just more experienced.

So are you now suggesting that players are getting too much dps from non-cash items such as fleet consoles?

The usual unbalanced poll so I'll go with "none of the above"
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Fleet embassy consoles? Cheap DPS for everybody! Other stuff like feedback pulse and timeline stabilizer to shorten captain's CD times were even completely free form event ships.

I do not know what will become of them or with what they are going to be replaced. I only know the consoles from the last two holdings where not as good but the next lock box always seems to be around just the next corner.

My Lobi consoles should always outdo free consoles, free consoles being fleet consoles.
    Positive thoughts.

This is a good question. I can’t give you an honest answer and need to think about it. The change will undoubtable bring more variety but it also opens the door to business practices you criticize with your vote options. :)

Not a very comprehensive list of options to chose from. I'm of the opinion that Cryptic is trying to nerf a few things just a little bit so that they can introduce more power creep in the future. Why do I think this? Because they have done it in the past and that's the model this game is built on. As for the minor buffs or attempted buffs I'm skeptical of them. Hangar pets have been messed with several times and they are still unresponsive to commands and some are mostly useless, particularly those with cannons since they fly around randomly hardly ever pointing their bow at the enemy. Beam overload has also been tinkered with and the playerbase at large has ignored the power, at least in PvE. Single target powers will always find themselves off peoples bars because the game is largely dealing with groups of low hit point trash mobs and AOE is better at dealing with these type of enemy groups.

The first vote option seems to be the most sensible. I genuinely believe they are trying to make a better game by balancing everything, so that no build choice feels wrong. Tanking and healing was fun and useful in pre-DR days, and if they can bring that back instead of moar "dps dps dps", then I'm for it. The upcoming balance changes are imho not perfect, but neither does it have to be in such a complex game. The overal direction the changes are going towards is nonetheless good enough for me. Perfect balance doesn't exist, but sensible balance does.

(Smart) nerfing is a necessary evil for balance, especially if something is so ridiculously overpowered and broken that everyone is going to use that particular thing, and then the gameplay diversity is ruined all to hell (unless you're a roleplayer who doesn't care about effectiveness, but not all of us are). When you nerf something you always going to have angry whiners, but I hope the devs can see past that, and do what is right. Most other normal/healthy MMO's have regular tune ups (and that include nerfing), and it was about bloody time that happened to STO as well.

When was tanking and/or healing useful in pre-DR? I have been playing this game for over four years and I can't remember a time after STO went free-to-play that either were needed or that useful in PvE (PvP is a different story). Most people could take care of themselves even in the early days of the game.

As for diversity there isn't usually much of that in MMO's, with some exceptions of course. Generally, a large % of the playerbase learn towards what's most effective. If Cryptic nerfed FaW into the ground the high dpser crowd would simply find the next most efficient killing ability and move on to that.

I have had that happen to me too when editing a post it gets deleted. I got into the habit of copying my entire post when editing just in case lol. Anyway, no worries I understand not wanting to retype the entire thing. Will just agree to disagree. :)

If you want the REAL reason, the poll should surely be for devs only, as the rest of us cannot know.

Watch out this could be locked down. PWE might not be fond of constructive criticism or opposing

your last thread wasn't constructive criticism. It was people screaming OMG NERF!
nothing constructive. just criticism. That's why it was locked.

    This Poll is more same.
there are absolutely NO solid details of what the re-balancing entails
    no numbers
    no info on items affected

and as usual, people start screaming NERF! NERF!
just look at the 3rd option
punish TAC players? so all TAC players use BFAW?

if any class is getting a 'nerf' I would say its SCI. And that isn't even certain
They are losing a power. But since no one has tested the new power, we can't really say.

Wait until we have details, then you can make your TAC Officers' Pity Polls

At this point I don't care if it's a troll thread, console player that got wind of these changes and is beyond pissed...

Releasing of ships that literally are meta zen ships for FAW builds all the while this was in the works. A massive balance patch like this had to be in the works for months, before it was announced, and yet meta ships were released without an inkling to this.

It's one thing for PC players that have had many of these meta ships for years but to nerf ships we literally just purchased because of "balancing" the builds is garbage... I highly doubt console players will receive this overly well and the spenders like me will call the BS for what it is, BS...

plenty of games to play and no need to support either with money or playtime metrics a company that comes of this money hungry...

If I'm over reacting I have no problem recanting but the optics on this from a console standpoint are appalling

You really don't know how silly that statement sounds do you?
Don't worry, everything in this patch is designed to make the game easier for you whether you realize it now or not

    meta zen ships...lol
