Just to see feelings of player base for two viable expansions, Gamma Quadrant as pushed by DS9 of course, or Andromeda as mentioned multiple time through various Solanae/Sphere/Iconian arcs.

This Gateway also led us to another Dyson Sphere, and the Iconians didn't really like it when we got there. Since we promised to leave them alone, it probably would be best not to go there again.
There is no way to reach the Andromeda galaxy again, not without pissing off the Iconians again at least.
In the Gamma Quadrant, we can deal with the Hur'q and their Fek'lhri creations, and their conflict with the Dominion. The story can also focus a bit more on the Klingon and their history.
Once we concluded that, we can use salvaged, reverse engineering or modified Iconian Gateway technology to visit the Andromeda Galaxy and see what wonders await us there. Maybe we figure out what happened to the Kelvans?
While I could also see us going back into the Delta quad to further explore areas of it that after the Vaadwaur war, which lead us into the Iconian war a short time later. I think it would be quite fun to several mini-arcs that you play thru learning about several of the other races in the Delta quad, maybe a Arc dealing with a civil war between those Vaadwaur that wish to fallow Eldex an those seeking to adhere to how Gaul saw their future.
I can definitely agree I doubt that we will see a expansion that goes into another galaxy like andromeda. Though I could see us maybe going into fully exploring an dealing with the Mirror setting. Like that several of the races/alliances in the Mirror universe send some ambassadors into the prime universe to seek aid after the Terran empire might have started expanding at a extreme speed with the tech they had gained.
I think a split expansion that has it's story arcs an focus divided between two areas would be a lot more work to do, but I think that for the playerbase it would be well worth the work put into it for more variety.
Man OP, the Devs are going to give you a Zen bonus for mentioning this!

We actually don't know that. We only know of the one Iconian Gate that Sela knew about. With how long the Iconians had been in Andromeda, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a Gate network there as well. We just need to find the key.
You know... kinda like how they dial Pegasus in Stargate.

Had Andromeda taken the lead, i would suggest a mix of non-human/atleast only vaguely humanoid inhabitants, to go with the description of the Kelvans, my opinion being the Preservers had no presence there.
The (either) was part of an removed portion, ignore it pls.
Yes! Also didn't Worf once mention fighting Kelvans already? Wasn't that an episode with a feral child? Anyway.
Qapla'!

Legacy of Romulus: 6 Cross-faction missions, 23 Romulan missions, 5 Klingon missions. (33)
Delta Rising: 9 Delta Quadrant missions, 6 Patrol Wrapper missions, 10 Kobali missions (25)
Agents of Yesterday: 5 TOS missions, 5 cross faction missions (10)
Every Expansion has been on a downward slope of new missions introduced. Now, maybe the next Expansion might change this, but @evilmark444 is speculating that they won't give us that many missions for another expansion.
I have to agree with this, instead of throwing out a huge amount of missions like with LoR (although they had to in some respects to flesh out the Romulan faction) the downside is the players mow through said content in a few days to a week then complain on the forums that there's nothing to do. We have our initital boost of content (say with AoY release) with 10 or so missions, I was playing a new TOS faction toon so used the time between the FE series to complete my reputation grinds, gear up the character and do some DOFF and Admiralty work. I much prefer this system since it means fewer spells where we literally go for months and months with nothing to do except rinse and repeat the same content. The latest FE was amazing in my books, the first time in a long while it's felt like I was actually doing some exploring! The space jellyfish from the TNG pilot was a great nostalgic touch and the away mission to the "protomatter wave" planet was awesome. I was really impressed that we didn't have any combat until right at the end just good old story telling and exploring.

considering that one console in Sphere of Influence specifically says GATES in Andromeda active...i would say there's more than one

A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch."
"We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"
You're not missing something, unless you consider MOST OF THE MILKY WAY GALAXY HASN'T BEEN OPENED UP YET to be the part that you're missing.
Look at the galactic map in the top left corner.
See all those colored boxes in each of the quadrants?
See how much of each quadrant DOESN'T HAVE COLORED BOXES covering it?
We've probably only got like 10% of the Alpha Quadrant and 15% of the Beta Quadrant available to us right now, given galactic scales.
Heck, simply adding the "border regions" around the Alpha map we've got to bring it up to equal size of the Beta Quadrant would be adding 22 sector blocks to a map that only has 20 sector blocks in it right now. Adding +110% to the Alpha Quadrant map would certainly qualify as a great way to (re)introduce an Exploration System ... especially if it's "expansible" such that Cryptic could start adding on more sector blocks to the Alpha, Beta and Gamma Quadrants so as to grow the map we've already got over time.
I keep looking at the Klingons, shoved off into their own little corner of the map and thinking ... is that IT for the Empire? They only claim/hold a mere 12 or so sector blocks out of 62 blocks in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, which means they're struggling to control as little as 20% of the available map. Meanwhile, the Romulans (Star Empire and Republic) BOTH dwarf the Empire in territory scale, and the Federation isn't exactly lacking in territory, with borders in both the Alpha AND Beta Quadrants.

A point to note is that this map is a 2-D representation of the space we can explore. There are many more systems that have been in Star Trek and there's obviously more to the major powers than what we see in the map due to it being a 2-D representation. A good example of this is the Delta Quadrant. Voyager's actual route covered like 50,000 light years with numerous jumps in between and many political areas that they've met. In order to realistically portray the DQ in the game, they shrank it down into 6 large sectors.
We also don't have a portion of the Delta Quadrant past the Nekrit expanse shown, no Borg cooperative homeworld (the entire planetwide community of liberated borg who formed a new collected consciousness in order to stay tight as a community, no actual idea what happened in that area of space since they left the Viidians and whether or not they actually cured the phage.
That, and outside of the Milky Way... is sort of completely beyond the scope of where civilization is in Star Trek throughout the series. I'm not completely opposed to it, but I'm also not personally a huge fan, not when there's still so much that can be done with the lore rich galaxy of Trek.
Besides, a different sci-fi universe is about to toss us into Andromeda in a few months.
Gamma Destroyer and Quadrant Cruiser is my guess. What about stats?
Oh, wait...
As nice as it would be to see some Gamma quadrant eventually (and by rights we already should have some), I would love me some Andromeda.
The sys requirements for STO are getting upped over the next few months...let's see them maximize that, and give us something really exotic that another galaxy should give us. Something that maybe was out of bounds for the game engine previously.
