Went back to DX9 as I found out that they cant fix DX11 on AMD for 3 years (WORST PROGRAMMERS ON EARTH !!!) and now I can see through half the walls and people's body parts. I see flying teeth and eyes it's so funny and stupid at the same time. They need to shoot their programmers or stop hiring Indians and get proper EU/US programmers
Ok I have tried some alt ways to get round this issue.
1 - Go in safe mode then ramp up in game - DX11 ( my system CAN! handle DX11 ) - Worked for 30 mins until it crashed my entire System! HARD! had to use power button to reboot system. (NOT! my system as I can run everything else with no crashes)
2 - Go in safe mode stay on DX9 - low level settings and I mean LOW! with some tweaks.
3 - Go in as normal and turn everything down to 24 bit style
However, I would love to know what the issue is as yes! I can do my daily but erm yeah please FIX! this or tells us its a known issue pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Hey folks, we've received the reports that there's issues with Direct 3D9 and we're looking into a fix. The easiest solution - if your machine can handle it - is to upgrade to Direct 3D 11. As soon as we have more info we'll pass it on.

Absolutely the same here. DX11 crashes the system and everything else WORKS FINE WITH DX11. BF4, Fallout 4, War Thunder ... anything You can think of all the latest games. And those id... nice people cant fix it for 3 years (I found complains from that time at least somewhere in reddit) in some sub par graphic wise game.

Very funny as DX11 crashes most people systems when used in STO. Yet DX11 works with Everything Else released in 2016 on the SAME systems.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully this can be sorted out soon.

For the record, DX11 is no fix at all. My rig can handle DX11 on every other title. GTA 5 runs very high settings without issue. Loading STO with DX11 causes map transfers (nearly every one) to freeze my entire machine, drop the game client from the open applications list in 'task manager,' and hide all of my desktop icons as well as any open programs -- STO game client persists on the taskbar, but cannot be interacted with in any way. This can only be recovered by hard reset. This started the day you introduced this year's Q update. Additionally, verifying the integrity of the game cache [via Steam] yields *2 missing files* EVERY SINGLE TIME the game is launched. After they are reacquired, the Cryptic Autolauncher must undergo a 27MB+ update. EVERY SINGLE TIME. And then, once all that has been attended to, the first map transfer freeze-crashes the game -- AGAIN -- in just such a way as to deny you any ability to force-close it. Then we are back to a mandatory reset and the whole process starts again. The functional state of the game currently is an embarrassment. It is broken, unplayable, and unstreamable, all of which you managed in one update. I'm not sure if hackers paid to destroy the game could have done as much in a single patch. Please make this fix an immediate priority. Breaking your own game makes the whole organization look pretty amateurish, which makes your customer base leery of recommending STO to friends. Maybe throw in some free promotional items for the countless hours your players have wasted trying to troubleshoot and fix this issue on their ends. Couldn't hurt to seem a little contrite, considering the circumstances.

SAME ! DX11 card with 4GB of RAM and 24GB RAM PC with Quad core and I should play the dumb game with the lowest graphics in DX9 !!! Where did they find those programmers ?!?
I was having the exact same problem. In 'Options', under the 'Display' tab, I changed my graphics card from DX9 to DX11, and it completely solved the problem, altho now my key-bind selections won't stick...gotta keep setting them back every time I change instances...
The Game itself is nothing. The playing of it...? Everything !!
until they get a bloody fix the game is just not that much playable, if they had not done the stupid idea of adding console graphics to PC we wouldn't even BE having problems like this

dafuq is this TRIBBLE answere ? DX11 and AMD cards doesnt work since Windows 10 .. it's impossible to even start the game, now here we are .. dx9 messed up and you are saying "hey use dx11 .. despite it isn't working for amd users since months" ..
I for one hope this is just a bad joke as ermmmm if they want us to use DX11 over anything else hows about they make it so it doesn't crash systems to the point you have to hard reset your computer...
If you're able to play in DirectX 9 mode and still having visual issues, try changing your renderscale setting to .98(it's at 1 by default)...; whacked all my visual issues....
Yeah, my system is DirectX 11 capable, but has major issues running STO in it, and upgrading my card isn't an option as this PC has an integrated card....

I am using Windows 10 and I keep my system updated regularly.
The list of "best play experience" video cards says AMD Radeon HD 5000 or better.
My PC uses an AMD Radeon HD 7350 video card, with 1 GB RAM. It does support DirectX 11.
As a matter of fact, I can play many recent games.
Yet, whenever I try to play STO, the game crashes within 30 minutes (most often right after I click Engage).
I downloaded Windows SDK to get the DirectX Caps Viewer. It enables you to check what features your card supports. My AMD Radeon HD 7350 does support Direct3D 11, feature level 11. See picture below.
And yet, STO crashes all the time.
STO want us to upgrade, but even when we meet the requirements, the game still doesn't work.
Try as we might, the ball is in your hands, STO.
So, before telling your users to update their tech, how about you fix your software?
It seems with the new minimum requirements being implemented, you, the players will have 2 choices, upgrade your system or not play. I would rather the devs just fix the issues than them just say try DirectX 11 even if you can't. Most of my friends will no longer be able to play the game after the change. This change will cost 1/3 if not more of the player base.
The problem is not how good your card is - my R9 290 was top of the line 400EUR - still have THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH DX11 but it works with EVERY other game from 2016 at MAX settings. The problem is that their programmers are sub par.

Anyways, for a temporary fix, you need to:
I do hope this is just a temporary fix though. A lot of people still use DirectX9.
