Carriers are evil, make no sense, if I was at the helm of STO they would have never happened. This ain't Star Wars.

    Most hated ship?

    Defiant-class

Seriously, what the hell is going on with that ship? It resembles nothing; not the classic Starfleet cruiser, not a Quasi-Star-Wars destroyer, it neither has nor has not wings, it's a "warship" with an even MORE conspicuous bridge, it doesn't even have that rugged attack chopper look. ... it's just.... got nothing. It would have been better if it was obtusely wacky, or just a plain disk. It's like seven people compromising seven designs into a great big mellow hodgepodge of nothingness.

Defiant-class should have actually looked bold, angular, or at least of a clear design. Something like a 24th Century NASA Space Shuttle: delta wing design, giant hard point cannons, a big set of thrusters coming out the tail, et cetera.

Never cared for the Chimera myself. Looks like a Basking Shark with its mouth open. How it was a finalist in the "Design The Next Enterprise" contest is beyond me. Someone at Cryptic must've liked it being it made it into the game.

I actually like the Chimera. She's chubby. I like that pig-1.gif

Now that you people have necro'ed my thread, can I reiterate that I hate the TOS Connie?

The Defiant is blatantly based off a Wing Commander heavy fighter. That said, I hate that the vulcans get no love in this game. That further said, I hate carriers but not for being carriers. I hate them that they fill the screen and the camera can't seem to not get off their TRIBBLE.

    Command Cruisers are hideous.

Personally, my bete noire is the Mogh / Kurak KDF-side.

Why? Well they're not bad per se, very capable ships which clearly follow the Klingon cruiser pattern. But in game terms they pinched the "attack cruiser" layout that the Vor'cha and Negh'var should canonically have had (ie, a layout which permits massive forward-focussed firepower) meaning that those iconic ships will never be what they should be.

So yeah, I (indirectly) hate the things. If you could stick their stats on one of the canon designs you'd have a game-perfect Klingon cruiser, other than the Temporal D7 (which does exactly that!!!).

Last time, I asked you about your favorite starship classes and what makes them appealing to you. This time, I do the opposite: I ask you about which starship classes you hate the most and why you hate them.

In my case, I really have to admit, it's the Constitution class. Really. Now some of you might say I'm trolling, or say "nuh uh it was made in the sixties, they weren't so advanced, you can't say that". But that's it for me. It looks old. Unlike some people, I didn't grow up watching TOS, being born in 1996 I grew up watching VOY. Granted, I also watched TNG and DS9 (Picard is my favorite captain by the way), but when I saw an episode of TOS, it just felt stale to me. And that's what I think about the Connie. It's stale. It's boring. It's like that grandpa sitting on a park bench feeding the ducks, while still wearing what was considered modern in the halcyon days of his youth.

As I stated, my favorite design is the Vesta. The Connie looks like its conceptual opposite. The Vesta is one streamlined, unbroken beauty that looks like it can go mind-numbingly fast (and it can), while the Connie looks like its fragile neck and warp nacelle pylons would break the moment it tries to fly anything faster than warp 8, let alone enter a quantum slipstream tunnel. There are no interesting details on the hull (where are the escape pods?). It looks really brittle/fragile too, compared to the tough looking Galaxy class. The TOS Connie just really cannot appeal to my aesthetic taste.

The Kelvin Timeline Connie is no better, by the way, as it looks like a toy. You know, the ones with the big nice parts so the kids can't swallow anything.

So what is your most hated class? And why? Welcome this thread as an opportunity to hate on your most hated starship design (and please don't hate on me).

I felt exactly the same as you about the TOS Constitution too, until about 3 years ago... I watched Doug Drexler (designer of the NX 01 and a few other trek things), talk about it. He said exactly what I began to feel about that ship a few years back: "Yes Starfleet used a lot of submarine and old WW2 bomber lines back then- but the way the hull is so smooth and almost white, with no visible parts- no phaser strips or torpedo tubes, it looks like it's made of crystal or grown in a big 3D printer! As our technology advances it gets more streamlined, Apple releases a new Ipad and all it has is one big button!"- I love the TOS connie, because it is actually holding up in it's advanced look- you just have to give it a chance and look at it differently.

I had to stick up for my ship brother ;)

As for my least liked ship in this game... I dislike the Steam-Runner, I always have. I also dislike the Akira. I realize a lot of people love those ships but to be they are strange design attempts. They don't really make much sense and are over-all unappealing to me. I'm just greatful that they didn't put that odd Kit-bash with a Voyager Saucer and a Maquis raider back end you'd always see floating by DS9 in the background. Maybe next April fools they will give that monstrocity and say it's for sale for some obscene price- only to find out it was a joke.

Good work on giving fans the SteamRunner though PS! It may not be MY cup of earl grey hot, but as always our team has done a wonderful job. It looks like it's right out of Star Trek First Contact (where that ship was first seen)

I dislike the hollowed out pumpkin spaceframe of the D'deridex/ It'd look so badass , if not gor the fact it was scooped out. I know their oare lore explanations for it, but I think it looks silly. I bet getting from aft to fore is a real paim.

Chimera/Manticore and Dyson ships (all of them). Ugly as hell, utterly useless things and in the case of the Dysons, very short shelf life. Wasn't more than a few months that they were phased out plus the Dyson story was crushed by Delta Rising, then T6 happened and...yeah...
    Rejoice JJ Trek people....

the original plan for the doubleD was going to have a large, Zigarot type structure in the upper and lower parts of the inner wings, since Probert wanted a sorta generational ship look to it. He was annoyed when those were taken out. the DD video on Trek Yards talks about that.

I have always hated the TOS Connie. It was a silly design in the 60's and it's a silly design today.

It looks like exactly what it is, the result of designers working on a shoe string budget with very limited technology trying to make something that looked 'futuristic' in 1966. I love TOS Star Trek, but always hated that silly looking ship.

The JJ Connie would have been a massive improvement if the Nacelles weren't bigger then the entire hull of the ship. There is pretty much no variation of the Constitution Class that doesn't look ridiculous.
    Insert witty signature line here.

I'm not a fan of the jjprize, mostly because the engines are almost as thick as the secondary hull. Just way too bulky. And the engine pylons are angled a little to sharply vertically. It makes the engines look like they are too close together.

Never really liked the Defiant myself. I prefer ships that look like they can just shove any resistance aside (something like Riker did in Insurrection - that wouldn't really work with a Defiant class shuttle ;) )

Gameplay-wise I also think it's weird that regular cruisers cannot use cannons when some of the smallest ships in the fleet are able to use and carry them.

Also, I don't really like ships that have illogical designs like the D'Deridex (or any other Romulan ship that's more wing than actual ship) or ships that look too much like a flying cannon. Or ships that have clear and not-well integrated weapon parts such as the Nihydron destroyer: these, to me, aren't starships, they're just the space equivalent of a WW2-airplane... hardly worthy of being called a true starship. IMO.

So that leaves most Federation ships like the Vesta (one of my favorites) as good designs. On the Romulan side, I like the Valdore as its wings look like there's actually useful and usable space inside of them due to their horizontal configuration. On the Klingon side the best ship is the Negh'var since, besides having the looks of something you could use to shovel your enemies away, most raptors have these 'flying cannon' or 'ancient airplane' features that I described above. And BoP's are of course just the Klingon equivalent of the Defiant.

It may be a bit flat, but I actually like most of the design. Perhaps the aft section and nacelles should be placed a bit closer to the saucer and maybe the nacelles should be moved downward a bit as well but otherwise I think that ship looks fine.

I don't actually hate any of the ships. I found the Nautilus at one time pretty ugly. Someone likened it to a pizza cutter, I likened it to a wheelbarrow. However, I've heard from a friend who has one that it's actually a pretty decent ship and she doesn't even find it ugly anymore.

I never found the Oberth/Daedalus ugly, I kind of liked the ball-shaped 'saucer section' to be neat-looking.

Still, don't really hate any ships. I really like the Paladin, despite it being 'pancakey'
Now a LTS and loving it.

    T5 Ha'nom Guardian Warbird

Big and ungainly science warbird that is underpowered which flies like a 18 wheeler truck with 20 flat tires. It almost made me delete my Romulan science captain. It was rather frustrating in combat because singularity core converts 40 power points to singularity abilities which I find to have situation use at best. That means less power for auxiliary subsystems (and weapons) which means it is a handicap for science abilities. I have no such issue with my Romulan tactical captain since I did not have to really worry about aux power; I don't really bother using singularity abilities even with my tactical captain.

The Plasmonic Leech was kinda too expensive for me to purchase at that time; about 40m EC (and going up every month) so I could not use that to offset the handicap. I did not feel like buying the T5 Caprimul Class DSD since I read all the DSDs had problems when they were released. Also, this captain was created after the 2014 Anniversary Event so the free T5 Aves Class DSD was not an option. But I still would have been handicapped by the singularity core.

I got a small reprieve when Cryptic gave away the T5 Ambassador Support Ship. Fed aligned Romulans were able to claim that ship was well. But it only had a Lt. Cmder Boff station. Moved on to the T6 Breen Carrier, and now currently flying the Kremin Science Vessel. Moving on to the T6 Eternal very soon. I will probably strip the gear off the Kremin SV.

I actually like the Ha'nom and am flying it on my LibBorg RomSci captain. He also flies the Krenim science vessel, depending on his mood. I used the two eng slots to slot good RCS consoles and it turns fairly well now (at least good enough for me since I don't need my ships to turn on a dime). I also have some other turn abilities on it, so it holds its own when I'm playing him.

Like I said above, I don't actually hate any of the ships. Hate is a pretty strong word. Maybe I dislike some ships aesthetically, but I'd still fly them if they had what I was looking for in a ship.

I pretty much agree here. The Ha'nom is a horrible bird.
I can recommend to you however to use the old temporal science vessel. The R'mor is a beautiful and very well performing science ship.
You also do not have to deal with singularity issues.
Since the first infinity box, it is afordable.

Regarding ugly ships, I have to vote for all the 26th century tempral ships + the Ent-J.
Hope we wont develop in that direction any further.
