I had thought to put this thread in General Discussion, but given it's actually a racial build based off the Alien template... this forum seemed more appropriate. This was one of a number of things I set out to challenge myself with given the limited nature of the game's racial diversity, I think I did a decent enough job. That and people wanted me to post the build somewhere, though the had suggested reddit. I don't have a reddit account nor do I want one. Of course, this only works in the Federation and the Klingons. Romulan Aliens are locked to a mostly human-oid shape (racists). Well, enough idle prattle, time to post the grocery list that is how you build a...

    So, not content with just one race from a questionably applicable universe, I decided to try another. For what should have been just your standard 'alien features on a human base' it was rather aggravating. Had to start from an Alien base and make it look as bog-standard human as I could just so I could have the full breadth of alien head options. Then had to settle for how those options worked... those head spines hovering over the eyes... and down the neck... Needless to say, alot of settling was done. But hey, two races down out of... how many?

    Aside from SW aliens, how many Players or boffs are based on other sci-fi works, or "The Gray's", or just randomized?

    In my experiences so far alien duty officers are randomized with no regard to functionality or aesthetic. The bridge officer I used to make the zabrak was hideous, looked nothing like anything. Players, though, tend towards either aesthetically done greys of varying heights and ominousness... or harlots with voth crests. At least that's what I've seen on the PS4.

    Been a while since my last entry into my little experiment in alien design and this one could well be my hardest, worst and oldest (seriously, I'm pretty much aging myself with this one) alien yet. The Drac from Enemy Mine (I dare you to remember that movie!). Now, there is no female equivalent being given here as the Drac were hermaphroditic if I remember correctly. Sadly, given the nature of the game alot of rather annoying compromises had to be made. Yes, Zammis, you get four five. Also, couldn't do the mouth justice at all with only tattoos to work with. And the ears... needless to say I may find myself messing with this one alot in the future but it works... mostly.

    And this one is even less spot-on than the Drac. Worse, it makes the Drac look photo-perfect. The problem is the eyes... augh, they just don't go all the way to the side of the head! Not even half way! They're all front all the time. Still, barring the eyes (and the hands, always the hands), I did a reasonably good job. Looks cartoony, and the eyes are completely wrong, but it's the best I can do with what I have to work with. I'm only presenting a male as the movies and various series, from what I can remember, have only ever shown males. Females do appear in concept art and comics, but comics are dubiously canon (at best) and really, we're all just going to use this to make one spokesman of the race anyway. So... here we have...

    I just saw this for the first time. Thank you, OP. Takes time and effort to work up something such as this. Takes more time and effort to post it here in such detail other players can try it out. Which I intend to do ASAP. Posts such as this are not common. Posters/Thread starters such as yourself are even more uncommon. I, for one, sincerely appreciate the efforts you've made on other's behalf. I hope others will enjoy what you've done here and express their thanks as well.

    I had an idea for a race to build next but... looking at it I decided it was too easy. Like, Zabrak easy. That and it was likely going to be just as obscure a reference as the Drac and I'm sure there's people here who are still going, "What's a Drac?"     I have enjoyed the look of and the comments recieved from my deploying a Cloner...er...Kaminoan as a part of my KDF Away Team. Made it a Science BOff and it works out really well here, too. I am going to try this new one out this weekend and I am looking forward to it. Thanks for sharing these with us OP!

    I'm literally cowed by your commitment to this little hobby of mine. Sadly, might be a while before I make another. I'm trying to keep my bridge officers to two of each class and I'm down to an actual Human who hasn't been traded in for an out-of-universe Alien... and I only have two empty slots left after that. And I still have a Jem'Hadar, Kobali and Hierarchy waiting for a chance on my crew. You keep having fun and enjoy.

    Append: Rather ironically, I made a Klingon captain who's Kaminoan, as is her entire crew save one, who's my Federation captain recreated as an Alien (because you can't quite make Vulcans in the Empire).

    I'd like to think I'm not so vain as to let a picture speak for my builds. I'm not really posting, "Look what I made, isn't it cool!" as I am, "I made something, you can make it too!" with a an added, "And I'd love to see how you improved it!" To that end I don't really see how a picture would improve the presentation. Sure, a picture is worth a thousand words but pictures make for poor storytellers. Posting the builds I feel no burden of proof that I did it, the numbers and settings speak for themselves. If you feel I may have copied a build of yours then please, say so. Post it and share! I'm not so prideful that I can't concede credit.

    Okay, finally got off my lazy TRIBBLE and posted some pictures with the builds. Forgive the etherealness of the images, seems console doesn't do the game graphics justice in it's screenshots. Sadly, it goes far to illustrate how bad the Mon Calamari was ( T,T ) but... anyone whose made these for their crews probably discovered that already. I might do 7 more in the future, depends on whether I get ambitious with my Temporal captain. Enjoy!

    Been a while since I added to this list but I haven't given up! I actually ran out of bridge officers as I like to keep at least one of every race I've created. Now that I have my Temporal captain running around I have more slots to work with! So what's next on the hit list? Well, figured I'd go back to Star Wars and try my hand at a Bith, or Figrin D'an's horn section as they've appeared in the movies.

    Like the Mon Calamari, Star Trek's character creation system doesn't really support all of the options needed for an accurate representation so I had to settle for 'close enough'. Unlike the Mon Calamari close enough is fairly close and, while there's a place or two that leaves me dissatisfied, I'm content with the final product. So, without further ado...

    You may have noticed the fashion shot has a different background than the previous ones. Consoles recently enjoyed an update that (finally) fixed the tailors, but in the process they changed their background to that of the holodeck. While I don't mind it, I will miss the star field. It was nice. Though a working tailor is nicer.

    Append: Well, that was a close one. The forum decided to delete my previous attempt at this post during editing. Thankfully I had the foresight to copy it before it was lost from browser history.

    Extra Append: I didn't like the Dual Lobes look after all... it was only accurate to about half of the pics I'd seen but the various animated appearances have them with huge bulbous head and not dual lobes so I went and changed it to fit better to official sources.

    Thinking on what else to try I figured I'd look a at the newer films and games. One race I hadn't initially considered were the Neimoidians, droid-abusing business-minded... well, Star Wars' ferengi! So here they are! While I'm presenting both genders a lack of official art for female Neimoidians had me looking to fanart so there's a more stark difference between them than I'd done with Yoda.

    On an unrelated note, I've gone through my previous race build checking for gender parity. So far they haven't needed much more work than minor tweaks so everything should be fine. Not going to discount the potential for even more tweaks further on but for now I can rest in that I shouldn't need to look back anytime soon. With that said, on to the build.

    Hmm, the face could be feasibly done with the right complexion. The issue that'd drive me batty are the legs, there's literally no way to do them.

    no, there's no feasible way to simulate digitigrade legs in STO, and there probably never will be because then uniform bottoms will clip horribly​​

    It was such an interesting suggestion (and a first for the thread...) that I felt a little challenged by it. And while, yes, there are challenges after the fact, those can easily be surmounted with Dyson Reputation armor. Not that I can see what that'd look like on consoles yet... There are obvious limitations given the source but if I can slap a 'done' sticker on Mon Calamari then I can do the same here. And so I made Protoss! Wasn't as hard as I thought it'd be, though not going to lie that it was easy. None of these builds were. But that's what makes it fun! So, here's the build!

But that's all in how you want to portray your Protoss. Me... probably just going to be stuck on my bridge doing random tasks. Logistics is just as important a task as shooting up indigenous races.
