I know the hard working folks down at Cryptic studios just got done releasing the game for console, but I still find the lack of any substantial news disappointing. We did after all just celebrate Trek's 50th anniversary and all the devs had to say about it was "Yay! Here's a TOS pack!"

Now I'm not insulting the free gift, or suggesting it wasn't enough. Far from it. But I would've liked to see a little more acknowledgement inside and outside of the game that Trek is now 50. A Q appearance would've been good. A one-off special mission for all players would've been even better. A week long celebration event besides the Mirror Invasion grind would've been best. I think the 50th deserves a lot more recognition than Cryptic has given it, which has been barely any.

And how bout some dev blogs hinting at the future of the game? Agents of Yesterday is old news. Even the news for console has been barely more than "It's finally here, have fun!" while they work on the first big patch to fix the worst bugs. Hey, how about some updates on the new lighting for PC and anything that's coming along with that?

You don't need to look any further than Tribble to see hints of what is coming. The new lighting system is partially on there already, along with some hints about R&D updates (kits and kit modules are now upgradable). New stuff stays on Tribble for about 4-6 weeks before going live to Holodeck, so if you add that thought in with the 3-month Lockbox cycle... we should be getting the next update in the first half of October.

I am a bit surprised that we haven't gotten an FE, but such is life, and one is certainly coming Soon™...

The devs have been working non-stop for several months, first on AOY, then shifting over to completing the console release. Most are probably on vacation. The next release is basically just bringing the PC version in line with the console one (graphics and systems update), then they will move forward, probably in January. We are due for a new lockbox, a new c-store ship release, and maybe a FE, but don't expect a lot more.

Also the lighting changes apparently required them to redo parts of every map in the game....

News Blogs over the last year have been later than they normally were in the past, timing wise. Blogs that were normally out, let's say five days before X Event/Sale/etc. have ended coming out the night before or on the day of release. Small errors or inclarities have been more prevalent in the past year as well.

Things are being played closer to the chest as of late.

They aren't playing things close to the chest, there's just not much to report. They were working on AOY, then they were working on the consoles. They are now working on the winter event and whatever is coming after. Usually this span of time would be filled with posts about the season x.5 follow up to what came out in July, but there isn't one this year, it's just the graphics upgrade and we already know all about that. This is just how the schedule worked out, its nothing to panic about.

If so, the current state of the new system on Tribble shows they HAVEN'T gotten to a lot of the maps they need to as yet.

That's a surprise considering that they are ALWAYS working on something and most people know that Cryptic won't tell the public, because the public then tries to have it's own 2 cents. Just because it's been 4 days since their last post, it doesn't mean DOOOOOOOM!

Your posts have shown you think you're entitled have news everyday on what the team are doing. I'm happy with what the team put out and I don't give two hoots if it's only news once a week. The fact is, these guys are stupidly busy running the game on 3 platforms now, yet they've still done blogs, podcasts and news items. They deserve all the praise in the world for what they've done recently, but people like you have done nothing but complain about 'lack of communication/news', the FREE TOS pack, the 'lack of FREE gifts' or any other thing certain people think they are entitled too.

When I see a Cryptic employee say "we're working of stuff we can't talk about", it's a confirmation that stuff is in the works. That's actually enough for me. A lack of confirmation is not.

Actually it's a right, because I've paid for it. I was a gold subscriber for 1000+ days and I've also bought mountains of zen and will in future. That's what a transaction is. You have a right to a product you pay for.

Nothing I said is invalidated. I am not talking about secret stuff they are working on, I'm talking about stuff that is being announced. It is being announced later than this kind stuff was in the past.

Anybody who thought the console release would be good for the PC version of Star Trek Online are badly mistaken.

On topic news? Op how long have you been gaming? Devs for any game do not hand out any news at all now and days. When they do, they make sure their is no possible way someone can twist it into a way to attack the game. Translation I would not expect any until they have something concrete and right around the corner.

As for the game being free to play, that is amusing at best. Free to play is fake and always has been. You end up paying one point or another regardless of the title says. This is why I prefer subs, simple to the point, and you get everything. The lifetime sub idea shot the hell out of that ever returning. Yea you can play the game with free ships, but if you ever hope to oh I dont know get Borg neural processors you better be bringing a zen ship tier 5 or higher with good gear into that advanced/elite stf. Yes I know you can spend marks for wait for it one for 100 marks. There is a word for that burn out mode.

Last but not least my favorite comment of this thread their is no where else to go, its been all done. I beg to differ. There is allot places this game can still go. First and foremost would be massive pvp overhaul, they talked about this once, where you can actually conquer the opposing factions territory. The Borg are far from dismantled despite the implication. The Undine are still very much out their. Section 31 is still floating around in need of termination. Not to mention the Romulan Star Empire has not been dealt with fully, as far as I know. I heard they released some new story on the Romulans, but I do not know specifics. Despite a home world going boom. The Romulans still had thousands of ships, now half is the republic, and the other half Tal'shair and Star Empire. So whats the deal their? I think people are trying to make it sound like they have to release a new cardassian or Dominion playable faction. At anyrate who knows. I would just be careful on claiming absolutes.

If they do a new race, it needs to be radically different from the current ones. Aside from the ships and the romulan singularity stuff there isn't a lot of difference
