Still no Phaser-Based Reputation

I may be wrong but there has not yet been a reputation with phaser damage type. It looks like the temporal chronitons will be another AP-based weapon. We just had yet another AP boosting universal console with the Crystalline event....with the 50th anniversary of TOS coming let's have some phaser love!

These are the reputation damage types as far as I remember:
Omega - N/A (kinetic cutting beam and plasma torp)
Romulan - Plasma
Nukara - Tetryon
Dyson - Proton
Counter-Command - Disruptor
Delta - Polaron
Iconian - AP
Terran - Disruptor
Temporal - AP (Chroniton)

Um I might be mistaken but didnt the undine rep allow you to chose either disruptor or phaser?

You're correct, which made the level-up rep boxes almost useless -- ooh, a VR beam array ... disruptor! Arrrghh!

For the set there was only a turret though, no beam array or DHC: http://sto.gamepedia.com/Counter-Command_Ordnance

STO has been starved for a little love for the good old (NOT AGONY) Phaser for a long long time.

Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.

In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.

To me the Fed needs a lone Rep and so do KDF. This way they can have their own style of gear. Similar to the Romulan Rep.

They'll get a Phaser when i get a special Plasma DHC - Heaven knows why the Romulan set only gave the option of an Experimental Plasma Beam Array ... I'm a Romulan, I play an Escort and would love a special DHC, like the Terran rep ... which gives a choice of a special Disruptor Beam or DHC weapon set.

I would love to see a rep that uses a exclusively phaser type energy type like the terran gave for disruptor, yet if the Undine rep had given you a option in the rep to exchange a phaser or disruptor weapon for the alternative energy while keeping the same mods/weapon type it would have been okay. Like if you had a bio-phaser dual heavy cannon with the mods Acc/Crtdx2, but wanted that same weapon in a disruptor energy version, than for a dil (maybe dil, mark, and ec cost) cost you could do your bio-phaser for a bio-disruptor version of it.

Though it would have been nice if they made it that any rep set-weapon had two firing modes that you could toggle between, like a beam-array an a dual-beam version, or a dual cannon an dual heavy cannon version of it. One reason I would not mind this change is that having the option to switch to say the larger firing arc beam-array mode to give yourself some more fire-power during the time while you acquire your target again, and then switching to the more powerful yet smaller arc dual bank mode once you do acquire you target, would give you some more use of the weapon on more ship-types. Add in that as I have hoped they might change the dual cannon's firing arc from 45 degrees to 90 degrees, than again it would just give you more viability in what ship an styles you could play the weapons in. An I do agree it would be nice to have both a beam array and dual cannon choice.

2 disruptor reps, 1 phaser rep.

We got a solid phaser set in the Quantum, but you're right about the rep. We really need a viable alternative to Fleet phasers. Yeah, not counting Evil phasers here either. Heh.

We try to make reputations around a narrative, tying the damage type into it.

I also *may* have pushed a bit for Chroniton once we knew this was going to be Temporal-themed.

I do like the idea and look of the chroniton weapons being added with this new rep, but I kinda wish they might have been slightly different, or a later type might work more in a delayed manner that fits with time-influencing effects. Such as the idea of giving a chance to inflict a debuff that would delay the activation, and/or the weapon firing activation of the target by a small degree like .1 or so, which if the animation of the ability/weapon activation were to still be shown could have some interesting play interactions.
  • berginsbergins Member Posts: 3,453 Arc User
Chroniton totally makes sense for a Temporally themed reputation. Just would be nice to have a few more (one more?) rep options for the signature energy type of the faction the majority of players seem to choose.

Procs already make it hard not to pick AP, but having more and more +AP sets out there, including stuff like the Ancient Omni Beam & Core, make it even harder. Phaser really could just use a little love.

Yeah I agree with you on that we could use a lot more reps that use, or have options to use the three main faction energy types, as well as getting reps that have both a wide-arc (beam array and single cannon) an narrow arc (dual beam bank or cannon) choices for their set items.

Of course, if we get "more reps" that do that, we'll also get more threads like this: http://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1216970/not-another-grind-fest-temporal-reputation#latest

    *sigh*

But yes, more options would be nice. It might even get me to actively grind more reps on more alts. Currently, unless there's something from a rep I really want on an alt, I am rather passive about filling projects.

I remember the Quantum Phase stuff from one of the recent story arcs (I use it on my Fed main), but some phaser rep gear would be nice.

So, I'm a little unsure about one thing. Is Chroniton becoming its own damage type, or is it just going to remain another Antiproton source? And to follow, if Chroniton becomes its own damage type, will the Chroniton DB lobi item be modified to it?
