the ent-j's saucer is bigger than most ground maps... no thanks... let it be part of the background art during the battle sure.

If they DID give us an enterprise J, how would we get it into the Dyson spheres? Would we have to switch to our shuttle?

Eh. It works if you realize the ship is all Doctor Who on the inside where they mess with spacetime as part of the framing. It explains the angles of the windows and the thinness of the saucer.

I wasnt referring to the mechanics of it... I just think the pancake-prise is far FAR more fugly than the JJprize

The D4 concept is already available in the C-Store as the Koro't'inga, and its skin can be used on the T5U/fleet K't'inga. Unfortunately, it's not actually canon, since they wound up using the regular K't'inga model in the series instead.

Unless you mean the D4 from Into Darkness, in which case all bets are off...

The surprising implication of any of that coming to STO: ships would be allowed on ground maps again.

I believe that the Koro't'inga is actually the D6.

Ent-J is the lamest looking one. Looks like a CGI that they only intended to have on screen for a few seconds in one episode... oh wait...
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

The Sagittarius class (T6 Temporal Cruiser) certainly looks like it inspired the Enterprise-J with its design. Just remove the extra bottom pair of nacelles and a few other minor changes and you have the Enterprise-J.

Its possible that its from the same era as the Ent-J, hence the design similarities.

IMO the Ent-J is just too big for a player ship. She'd dwarf even the Tholian Tarantula, and that's one of the biggest player ships in the game. And before anyone says Scimitar, I'm talking mass wise as well as length. The Scimitar's size is mostly in its wings, while the Tarantula is bulk.

I think the Ent-J might be the size of 2 or 3 Voth Citadel Dreads put together at least.

With how fragile the nacelle struts look even compared to the TOS Connie... size would have to be a factor. From a distance they might look ready to break if you breath on them, but up close they could be as thick as the Defiant is wide.

While you are right about no on screen scale for size, we do gotta consider that each successive Enterprise has been bigger, typically a member of one of the most advanced classes of their respective eras.

Doug Drexler (who incidentally designed the Enterprise-J) said that the saucer was two miles (3.21 kilometers) wide. and I think I read that his intention was that the warp nacelles weren't actually physically attached to the ship. That they were held in place by *insert appropriate Treknobabble/ Elven Space Magic*. Also that the ship was so massive, that she didn't have turbolifts. Instead, they used transporters to get from one part of the ship to another. Drexler theorized that the ship would be capable of travelling not just to other galaxies, but to other universes as well.

Furthermore, the statement about a designer's word not being cannon only goes so far. When Cryptic redesigned sector space, they made a concerted effort to match up as many star systems as possible with their locations in the Star Trek Starcharts book, even though that book is in no way canon.

If Cryptic did decide to bring the Ent-J into the game (most likely as a set piece for the inevitable battle of Procyon V), I would bank on her being very close to Drexler's original vision.

I don't get it. Say what you will about NuTrek but the JJprise is a lovely ship.

A more appropriate comparison is what the designer of the Akira wanted for it and the Heavy Escort Carrier. Then there is the Vesta ships, Odyssey, and Chimera which all had the original creator's input even if they were just a fan of the game that was chosen by a contest.

If we ever get the Enterprise-J, then it would be 2 miles wide, called the Universe-class, and have some highly advanced engines. Although, if we do see it in STO, I don't see it as a playable ship, but as a mission location. Probably find a heavily damaged one and we have to help it get repaired or keep it out of the hands of some hostile alien force. There is absolutely no need to see the ship move since it is supposed to be able to fold space so the devs would only need some visual FX.

I don't know about them making it playable, but... if we get to join the Battle of Procyon, it could be in the background or an NPC ship. (Similar to a Voth Citadel?)

I personally agree, with one exception, that neck is all kinds of wrong. If I was going to fly one, I'd need to be able to give it the TMP neck.
