I think at this point it would be very difficult to gimp a T5 or T6 ship down to the 10k range (or less, because even at 10k you are steamrolling most content). Sure, you could go all defensive, but where's the fun in flying an immortal turtle?
I think at this point in powercreep, any half-decently built ship piloted by someone who has at the very least an idea of what he/she is doing will be very hard to be kept below 10k. Free gear will get you beyond 10k right now. Personally, I think it is a good thing but it also highlights the need for real elite queues.
Lower Tier runs for the win! Granted T1 runs isn't for everyone in our community but T2, T3 or even T4 is something worth thinking about. Also the higher tiered ship that only have 2 Tac console slots I find to be a lot more fun. Plenty of Boff powers and you have to think a bit with your builds. See you all in game 07!
Maybe this'll be the push everyone needs to actually play Elites. I can't remember the last time I say an Elite call in this channel. Even ground runs organized through STB tend to be Advanced, it's weird.
Hi everyone!
I've always been fascinated by canon builds (not too many energy weapons, lots of torpedos, "just-like-in-the-show" feeling), so I started fitting my T6 Fleet Arbiter with the gear that seems to me most fitting (while still being able to deal serious damage) but am not entirel sure about some points of it.
I don't want to block this whole thread with my build and your suggestions, so I'll just open a new one: http://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/startrekonline#/discussion/1214303/t6-fleet-arbiter-canon-build-question
Would be nice if some of you could drop by and give me your opinions!

I've had a quick look at your set up an your thread so here is my feedback... take away with it what you will sir.
1. Skills: Have I choosen the correct skills? What should I change?
For my main I've chosen the suggested tac tree put down by the dps metals league on their site.
I took from that and added my own points in torps and what survivability I think I needed but also to get the ultimate to try it out. I would put some points in eng like hull cap and such as well as the tac defence in the Tier 2 tree.
I didn't use tac readiness at all as before it I was just doing fine with my CD's but I did invest in the tac protocols.
2. Gear: Is there any reputation/C-store/etc. gear I am missing/should be using?
For Gear it already looks like you have the Wide Angle Quantum Torp? ... which is great on Cruisers and canon builds in general.
I do use the lobi consoles like the Tach and Bio which does add some punch.
Other than that I just try what I think would work.
2.1. Tactical Consoles: How many should focus on Energy/Torpedo-damage? On all my other builds I'm running Beamboats, so I have still equiped the ones increasing Phaser damage
For Tac consoles.. if I go energy heavy so say on my MVAE.. 3 Beams & 1 torp fore an 2 beams & 1 torp aft I still use all energy tac consoles.
On my Akira torp boat however I go the reverse and then use all torp tac consoles.
3. BOffs: Right/wrong abilities? (This is the first time I'm flying a ship with Intel-seating)
My suggestion, just a suggestion, would be the following
Tac
TT/APB/TS3
Tac
TT
Tac intel
FAW or BO/APB or CRF2 or CSV 2/HY (I wouldn't use OSS on a torp heavy ship.. just me tho)
Eng
ET/EPTS/EPTW/RSP
Sci
HE/ST2
4. Other: Any Doffs I should use? Power level settings? Other points not mentioned above?
Doffs for the above set up.. you can do the following
Use a conn a purple and blue conn doff for TT reduce which will free up 1 ens tac slot where you can then put another copy of BO or FAW.
You can also do 3 EPTX doffs which will keep your EPTX's powers running 100% of the time.
The above is what I would do only if it were me. I'm not the best ship builder here but that is pretty much what I would do in that set up.
Power level settings I'd go more into Aux and have weapons as high as possible so 125 with little in shields and eng.
Other than that.. just have fun with it... but what is your goal with your dps?.. I would think that would net you something like 20 - 40k possibly and that would depend on team comp, timing & positioning.
Hopefully this helps?.. if not feel free to ask away sir..
Hope to see you in game sir.. my handle is @trizeo1 and if you haven't already feel free to join the STB channel by typing the following

Your single comment has been much more productive than the whole discussion in my freshly opened thread! I had some test flights with the BOff abilities you recommended and it worked quite well.
Is there maybe another option than using the Nukara Shield+Nukara Deflector+Romulan Engines? That's what I used for my former Beam-only-builds, so maybe there's something better for my current build?
First of all: Welcome to the canoneers e30ernest and sirerblington!
e30ernest: I am VERY excited that you are interested in the canon playstyle. While science builds seem to be perfect for canon loadouts, as they, at first glance, seem less dependant on weapon chice, I always struggled with them. Most Science builds seem to also rely on procs from either non-phaser energy weapons, or rainbow torpedoes. I'm looking forward to learn a lot from you!
sirerblington: You are not blocking this thread at all! Most communication happens ingame, and if it turns out that a matter has to be discussed more in depth we always have www.reddit.com/r/startrekbattles/
Now that I mentioned reddit: /r/stobuilds is a really awesome place to be. (as is /r/sto)
I remember when I made my first post asking for advice on an STB build. I expected getting downvoated to hell because I don't run an on-meta FAW Scimitar.
I was under the impression that stobuilds is about "the best you can get, don't bother us with suboptimal builds".
I was so wrong!
You can go there, post your build, your intentions and get really really awesome advice.
There are so many build discussions. Canon, rainbow, turret rainbow even. Lots of great advice from people that really understand the game mechanics.

Hehe I don't play my sci ships as canon builds since I don't really count stuff like Energy Siphon, Grav Wells, DRBs and other sci abilities as "canon". I do play my tank builds as canon ships though so they are slightly more conventional.
If you do need help with your Sci builds I'll be more than happy to help.
And another question: What do you think about the Terran Photon Torpedo and the Quantum Phase Torpedo in canon builds?
I'm not the boss around here, but I think they are still classified as if they were the baseline of that type (Photon and Quantum torpedoes in that order). I don't think @trizeo1 has a problem with it.
Speaking of @trizeo1 , he'll be on The SHOW tonight, live! He'll be making his appearance cerca 02:30 GMT Thursday (10:30PM EST Wednesday). So be sure to harass him when you can!
I was just wondering if I were to join this channel and participate are there any traits or consoles/powers we should not be using. I understand that Feds use Phasers, Photons and Quantums as weapons but for example Tactical consoles should they be all energy or do you need at least one torpedo boosting torps. Engineering and Science should they focus more on type specific boosts for example Engineering armor, hull hit points, EPS, turn rate, power level increases etc.. and Science, Shield regeneration or shield capacity, Flow Caps, etc versus using any universal consoles from the rep, lobi stores and also the Plasma Explosion consoles from the embassy. The consoles that come from the ships are we allowed to use them?
Also what is the maximum rarity and MK level of weapons? Are there any weapon mods that are not allowed to be used? I also currently use the Quantum Phase Torpedo and the Gravimetric Photon Torpedo. Are there ok? Or would you rather the Basic ones which I can acquire if needed that is not a problem.
Below is a current build for this ship and Bridge officer Abilities. Not trying to be canon but I do use Phasers, Quantum's and photons. I just want to know what I would have to change to make it ok to use in Star Trek Battles. Thanks for any and all help
Although not an official response I think it looks ok console wise. The rule as I understand it is "if you can cite it in an episode you can run it" As for DPS that will always be an endless discussion. The channel prides teamwork over "to the moon" dps so us that as your benchmark but otherwise there isn't much restriction wise on mk level stuff.

Good questions all around. When I first joined STB (Star Trek Battles), it was more focused on Team Play and appearing as cannon as possible. That mainly meant using faction/species specific weaponry. Consoles were a non-issue so long as you kept under a certain dps limit (which has been increased or removed as of Season 11. I took a year off, so not really sure).
The set up, from what I am seeing looks good, but a few tweaks might make it FEEL better. Instead of using nothing but cannons in front, swap out the DC's for a Beam Bank and a 2nd torpedo launcher. Keep the Quad's and the Quantum.
In the aft slots, replace the turret with a beam array.
And nothing really stands out amongst the consoles. I use multiple unique consoles on the ships I fly.
As for BOff abilities, swap one, or both, of the Scatter Volleys for a Rapid Fire (if only trading out 1) and/or Hi-yield (especially if swapping both abilities).
Those are just suggestions, but no change is needed so long as the weapons you use are specific to faction/species.
Looking forward to seeing you in game.
Star Trek Battles: For those who want to Play Star Trek Online as it WAS MEANT TO BE!!!
What gear is or is not good to use is less a matter of strict regulations than it is of general consensus among STB captains.
While @trizeo1 always has the last word and the power to veto he seldom uses that power. I think the last time we got a definitive "no-go" was green phaser beams.
For both the Gravimetric and the Quantum Phase Torpedo there were quite some discussions when they released. Ultimately the consensus seemed to be that they are close enough. Nowadays they are pretty common in STB builds.
While there is on-screen evidence for the use of green Biomolecular Photons I personally would only use them on a borgified federation ship. They are totally fine for KDF and Romulans though, but given the inconsistency of the FX for those factions in the shows and movies they are a whole different matter anyway.
Due to performance issues I haven't been on nearly as much as I would like to, so I'm not sure what the majority thinks about the Terran Torpedo. Last I checked it was more on the "meh" side, but that could have changed.
I think it's important to understand, that STB is not a channel with strict rules.
Think of it more as a community of like-minded people with a benevolant dictator ( @trizeo1 ) on top to kick in when things get out of hand.
We have a pretty clear goal: Have fun in STO by staying close to the shows. HOW close this has to be is in part a matter of personal choice (you can totally load up on standard photons and beam arrays) and in part a matter of general consensus (nobody wants to fly with someone who sports purple phasers on a Fed ship).
@tyrionjkirk If you haven't already I absolutely suggest you create a reddit account and join r/sto and r/stobuilds.
There are a lot of canon builds on r/stobuilds and the community is incredibly open to help improve ANY kind of build!
Not to muddy the argument I run the Terran torp (and full set) on my Mirror Runabout even though the beam is disruptor and the pilot is a Fed. But looks wise it seems correct. Just my 2 cents.
After a very long time I finally give up on STO. It wasn't easy, but it turns out that it's more frustrating than it is fun.
I tried to login since the last patch. Today it finally worked for like half an hour. I transferred all my EC to Trizeo before getting disconnected again.
Those of you who are on reddit can keep in touch with me there. It really hurts to go. STB is an awesome community and I really love the people I met here. But there's a point where you gotta go. Hope to see you all again!
I wish you all a LOT of fun!
I just wanted to apologize for my lack of response here on the thread.
RL has given me some more responsibilities and any free time I have just goes directly into STO which hasn't been much compared to my time before. I honestly just keep forgetting to check here and even on reddit forums at times.
I still get time to do the normal daily clickies and sneak some pewz in here and there but again.. not as much pew time as before.

Setek... my fellow Captain. I'm still taken back about that night you told me of your plans to quit. I know you've been having major problems with your computer and on top of that just being able to play STO as you said before.
You have to do what you have to do... I will hold onto your EC as well as the items you gave me. When things stabalize and your connection is better I will have them ready for you good sir.
You've help me a lot as a player and have pushed me to challenge myself when it came to canon builds. We've spent countless hours playing and pewn and I'd like to think that along the way we've gotten to know one another. Though separated by time & distance... STO has been able to bring us together and enjoy ST through STB.
You have been there since the beginning of STB and have helped it grow to what it is and for that.. I thank you!
I do hope that you give STO a chance here and there to see if there are any improvements over time and it gets to a point where you can come back to the helm and play again.
I'll just think of it as you're on a deep space assignment and wait until SF calls you back home.
Again... THANK YOU for all you've done for STB and especially for what you've done for me.
So I dug greedily and investimigated. For folks who were experiencing gameserver issues over the weekend, I found why and am working with the team to prevent this in the future by way of technosorcery and different processes. Trendy out.
Thank you for the kind words Trizeo! And to you Kin for the twitter links!
I feel like I owe you all a slightly more detailled explanation.
The connection and performance issues are just two of many reasons why I decided to leave.
I had a lot of fun and became very attached to this game, and especially the community, over the ~4 years I played it.
Probably a bit too attached. Lately I found myself being in a bad mood just because of the state of the game and the direction development is going (and in the end it's just that: a game). And that's not very healthy!
In the past it was enough to just quit for some time until things get better.
This time it didn't work. I logged in anyway and fired away at 3 FPS because I HAD to have that CC-Event thing which I don't even know the name of. And I HAD to also have it on that Alt who I don't even remember the name of...
When I saw the Summer Ship I thought: "I find it ugly, guess I just pass on it this year and take a well deserved break". Then the Event began... and I HAD to try getting online because for some reason I "wanted" that ship anyway.
This felt more and more like an addiction. And a bad addiction at that, since consuming the drug wasn't fun most of the time.
So I decided to not only take a break this time, but quit forever with no way back.
The day after I gave all my EC and valuables to Trizeo (btw: some of the ships are actually yours, I had them in the bank for the next STB Triathlon) I contacted Support and requested them to delete my account.
Ironically it was probably the smoothest experience I ever had with Support. After just a day I got the confirmation: "[...]Per your request we have permanently closed the account associated with the email address you contacted us from.[...]"
(Apparently the forum account is separate (I never understood which account does what...) so I can still post this.)
I thought I might regret it, but the opposite is the case: I feel relieved. I feel no need to follow the game at all anymore.
The only reason I'm here is to reply to my post.
Sooo Trizeo, you absolutely should use the stuff and EC I gave you. Get that lockbox ship you never wanted (haha). Give it out to the channel members, or use it to help new members get canon gear. If you still play the exchange once in a while maybe use it to make more EC to help players out and promote STB. Remember next prizes for the "2nd annual STB Setek Memorial Triathlon" (lol). Plenty of options!
As mentioned in my post above, I'm still active on reddit as /u/tyrinius and there are no plans to change that. So if anyone wants to contact me you can do it there. I'm also in personal contact to Trizeo.
I hope it all makes a bit more sense now
P.S.: I decided not to convert my Dil/ZEN to EC before giving everything to Trizeo. In fact, I also didn't get the few million EC from my alts. I asked for EC and Dilithium sinks for so long, it was just appropriate to be one myself in the end! "Don't ask what the exchange rate can do for you! Ask what you can do for the exchange rate!" Haha!
Sure! Just keep those pretty Kelvin timeline Phasers on it. (And feel free to poke fun at the few who feel the need to voice their dislike of the reboots in the channel any time the new ships are brought up.)
You can ABSOLUTELY use the Vengeance! I myself am considering getting the ship.
As mentioned by dragonsbrethren just as long as you keep it to it's canon then by all means. Really you can fly anything in STB so long as it's canon to it's race OR timeline.
Thanks for the interest and hope to see you online.
Sure! Just keep those pretty Kelvin timeline Phasers on it. (And feel free to poke fun at the few who feel the need to voice their dislike of the reboots in the channel any time the new ships are brought up.)
HAHA!.. I myself am not a fan of most of them. The Vengeance I can handle.. hopefully we can fill in the saucer gap? haha... The Connie i'm on the fence on but if I wouldn't say no to it if I had the resources and it is a good deal on it and for sure the KDF & ROM ships don't do anything for me.
You've known me for a bit and I don't spend a lot on the new extreme shinies especially when they are in lockboxes but this box might be that exception.
Just wanted to let all know as well that my RL time is going to be REALLY busy pretty much up until the end of the year me thinks. I'll always log on but the amount of time I'm online is not as much as before. When I am on please feel free to ask for my help or call out for any mission as I'm always up for anything.
When AoY drops I'll probably do what I did with my DR toon and that is level him up, as most will theirs, just to get the rewards unlocked account wide. I'm hoping to be surprised by AoY in that I enjoy it but as I've mentioned before I've never been a huge TOS fan and from what I played on tribble... it didn't do much for me but I'm always open to what the game has to offer.
I realize we got plenty of time to get hyped for the TOS content, but it actually bums me out how much this new lockbox stuff is overshadowing the fact that we're getting a full TOS expansion tomorrow. It's a shame they didn't hold the box back a week or two. Of them, the Connie is the only one I care about slightly visually, but the D4X and T'laru will be interesting from a gameplay standpoint. The D4 is the only one I see myself going for, and it probably won't happen.
Anyway, I'm only rolling a single Temporal Recruit (more TOS characters in the future are always a possibility, of course) and I intend to take it slow this time, so no plowing through content for me. Maybe a mission a day. I'll be taking Mala through the Temporal rep first, so expect to see a lot of this tiger stripe beauty:
I'd like to remind everyone that we have the same 2 week spoiler policy as Redditchat when it comes to discussing story content. If there's demand, we can always set up an STB Spoilers channel.
Captains 07! With the launch of AOY I was hoping over the next few weeks we could put together some AOY TOS style runs? I always enjoy the theme nights as you all know.
o7 captains, wanted to pop in here as a what's up. The Arc forums were giving me trouble with Chrome, so I was pretty much just hanging out on Reddit, but I think I fixed it.

Below is a current build for this ship and Bridge officer Abilities. Not trying to be canon but I do use Phasers, Quantum's and photons. I just want to know what I would have to change to make it ok to use in Star Trek Battles. Thanks for any and all help

Our Battles

See you in game Captains! 07
My concern is that I don't have disruptors for the build but I do have a set of twin array phasers.
Would that be acceptable?
07 Should be. Vulcan is FED. FED use phasers. Slot them and we will see you in game. BTW we occasionally do themed runs.
