Posting this here after Trizeo asked how I had my Sovereign set up being so mobile. This build is how I see a canon Sovereign class, much like in Nemesis, she is very nimble, getting up to 30 degrees of turn and averaging around 70 impulse speeds at max speed under full impulse, I personally use the movement Command along with the gear used, maxing the inertia at 50, so she doesn't slide around at all when moving. She fires a high volume of torpedos along with phaser fire thanks to the torpedo trait.

There some gaps in the traits, as Shield Technician is missing from the builder, and my fleet hasn't worked on the resreach lab so im locked out of those trait slots. On the ship itself the Build is missing the Terran rep console, so thats what the gap is. First thing you might see is the amount of gold, I spent alot of time tweaking this ship but mostly kept the same weapon systems, and over time I've managed to get them to Epic slowly, maybe a waste of time, but this is my main ship.

Still toying with it, but mostly minor tweaks.

And last bit, yes I know I loced myself out of any science seating. Crazy I know.

Awesome.. ty!... I may have to try this. Your Sov did look more screen acc in the way it turned which was pretty fast.

Great work and keep having fun!

Q: Are there any PvP matches that follow the same rules as listed in the OP?

We have had PvP themed battles like the Dominion War to be example.

It was made by one of the admins @risingstar and he had A LOT of rules in place at the time with the purpose of making it as equal as possible. This was also pre DR IIRC.

There was A LOT of interest in it but when the day actually came only 4 participated. With the set rules in place I found it quite fun as it was even for the most part.

Things we did to try to keep the playing field level was the following (IIRC)

All ships must use MK XI VR weapons (faction specific)
Can use 1 boosting console (1 tac console for phaser & 1 for torps for example)
Powers can only be up to LT. and ONLY single target powers

    For example

    BO/HY2
    EPTW/EPTS
    HE/ST

Looked more screen acc too without the FAW spam as well as after that match I suggested to take out any healing like HE or ET so that the matches would go faster.

Stuff like that were also the basis of a previous request from Captain Waldo to try and get a PvP standard in STB.

The problem is people didn't like the restrictive rules as well as some not being able to use their shinies or for whatever other reasons like.. resources to obtain certain gear etc..

For me, and I've mentioned this many a times, I don't PvP but with the Dom War re-enactment I had fun.

We also had one called Raider Party IIRC.. by Kylie where there would be 4 smaller ships vs 1 capital ship. That was quite fun as well... I can't remember the rules for that one but when we tried it ... seemed even.

To try and do something like that... it would mean, to me, turning off a lot of the new traits and such that we got.

There is interest in PvP by some of the Captains in STB but never really pushed thru as everyone is busy doing daily stuff and such. Also, when times are set... there is interest but the day of it seems to fall thru or very little attend.

I think the rules will have to be thought out as well as agreed upon by all but that can't be from someone like me who doesn't do PvP much as that is not my area of expertise.. my expertise is pew pew/canon/#having fun =)

Feel free tho to throw down your 2 EC's in regards to rules and such and see what interest there is in having a canon PvP event.

Always great to see you post here Oden.. TC and Have Fun! 07

PS saw you latest build.. VN as always =)

Just a tip for anyone doing controlled PvP - you can set it so that you only have commando active (for space combat) or pilot active (for ground combat), thus effectively not having specializations. (You can also fix this later; it doesn't break anything).

What you do is set commando secondary, set your current primary tree as secondary, and then set commando back to secondary (iirc; it's something like that at least). If you want to ground PvP no specializations, you can then select pilot as your secondary and it'll swap to only pilot secondary.

To go back to normal, simply set any tree as your primary.
    SCM - Crystal C. (S) - [00:12] DMG(DPS) - @jarvisandalfred: 8.63M(713.16K) - Fed Sci

I've mentioned before that I don't personally pvp but IF you want to try a pvp match "old school style" maybe we can get together and see what we can come up with... maybe even a Defiant vs Defiant match? To experiment as well to see what is needed to make the playing field "equal".

The trait is from the Zahl ship.

Invincible (NOT to be confused with Invisible) - Cannot be killed for 8 seconds. It's an anti-vape trait once every 2min.

We can establish some rules to keep it canon-ish, and go from there. If you're not hung over Jan 1st, I think I'll be on all day. If not, at least around noon GMT and onward.

Hey Captains! To chime on the PVP thing. We did do a TOS style one of KDF (D7) vs Fed (Connie) a few months ago. It went well but we do have some issues to work out. One is the use of cloaks. Also the matches sometimes run into a stalemate because with all the traits slotted on the different players we run into a bit of trouble with high hulls and shields. Basically no one dies. The biggest issue we have is the ridding the fine line between having fun and someone feeling like they are getting grinded on by another player (although that hasn't been an issue yet). A lot of these things we can overcome and I don't want to discourage any STB PVP but just keep in mind this is all a bit of a work in progress. Keep it fair and fun! See you all in game!

Ahh ok.. ty. Guess that'd be a REALLY good trait for ISA haha.

I should be on sometime for sure on teh 1st.. I don't drink so should be good LOL.

Here is my proposal as a guideline for a Defiant vs Defiant

    - no specs (as Vel showed on the how to)
    - possibly white common MK XI weapons & gear with the exception of the quad cannons of course .. mines only MK XIV VR (I believe can be bought somewhere on ESD)
    - weapons slots 2/2 or 3/2 or 4/2 or 4/3 (at least 1 torp fore & aft)
    - 2 eng consoles limited to MK XI (RCS or Neutronium or ablative)
    - 2 sci consoles limited to MK XI (shield emitters etc)
    - 2 tac consoles (1 that boosts phaser & 1 that boots torps/quants/photons)
    - no doffs
    - no uni consoles
    - boff powers limited to lt. only (possibly lt. cmdr for tac w/2 tac stations possibly)
    - single target powers only (there is only 2 of us hhahaha.. for now)
    - no use of HE or ET.. Aux2SIF possibly (reasoning behind this is so that matches don't drag on)
    - Captain powers.. up for discussion (BFI and EM would be ok for sure)
    - Defiant T5U? (I also have the T6 but no fleet versions)
    - power settings set to balanced.. up for discussion

These are some or a form of the rules we've used before. The intention is to keep us on an even level playing field which would then truly showcase skill/piloting etc..

These are by no means is what we should do just my suggestion/proposal.

Really.. anything is up for discussion for this.

Look forward to hearing from you sir 07

I did do 1 match I believe of this.. quite fun but yes.. some things needed to be worked out.

The definition of fun tho is different for everyone so sometimes coming to common ground can be different when some don't want to give up the things they've worked for especially if it's for their particular ship. Hasn't happened yet but I know the rules (restictive ones) have turned some off to it.

ONE aspect of PvP, IMO, should be showcasing the piloting skill over the uber gear one has over the other but having uber gear over another is another aspect of PvP which is totally fine so it really boils down to how the players in a PvP match want to duke it out which we've always tried to do here with any PvP match.

I wouldn't mind tyring a connie PvP match with you to see what we can do to make it even.

    See you in game 07

Well, seems like it's my turn to have a faulty PSU... I do have a new no-name one lying around, but it has no pins for the GPU (works okay with the the integrated HD 3000, but STO crashes with a Direct3D driver error).

My tablet was enough to get my daily Q-thingies (thank you for /renderscale Cryptic!) but it's definitely geting too hot after that.

Now installing STO on my trusty old Toughbook. Since my singer decided to drive over it with her car the screen is damaged, but the rest still works. I hope I can at least slot some dailies until I get a replacement.
But don't be surprised if you don't see me for some time!

    o7 Admiral.

I just wanted to thank you again for the VERY intense PvP match last night.

I mentioned that I don't PvP a lot but when it's done in the way we did last night.... it makes it fun and really showcases piloting and skill.

Seeing our Defiants going at it with torps and phasers hitting/missing our ships felt like a true STB/ST PvP match... and it was as you said... truly "nailbiting" with some REALLY close moments.

We had to strip ourseleves of like.... EVERYTHING but it made a ture level playing field IMO. It may not be everyones cup of tea and that type of restrictive rules is NOT new as there were/are other groups doing the same thing with the same intent.

To those wondering we both had the following things going on...

    - T6 Valiant ships
    - Up to MK XI common gear (I had my gear left over from the last STB PvP themed match)
    - 1 sci consoles/1 eng console/2 tac consoles (1 boosting energy & 1 boosting torps)
    - NO cstore consoles (and that included the cloak as well.. it would've probably been a VERY LONG waiting game haha)
    - NO specializations
    - NO space/rep traits
    - Single target powers (good one on using tractor beam.. I was just thinking of using it myself TBH haha)

    I think that was it?...

We also did a group one which also was pretty fun ... and thank you to those who joined in on that as well.

You also took that build into a PUG ISA which sounded like you had a REALLY good team with people communicating and to boot... a successful one with all optionals in tact.

I invite you to experience an STB ISA with all the preplanning/breifing and such when you have time next and hopefully we can get a full STB team going so that you can experience what we tried to do as well when it comes to PvE.

So again Oden, THANK YOU SIR for the match last night as well as for the invite to TS. There was a lot of awesome people I got to meet/spoke to.. even an old STB member.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts... TC and see you in game 07

It is I who should be thanking you for a very good time. I very much enjoyed myself, and will do it again. I'll have to see if the vid of the ISA remains intact (That run was beautiful!), but our 1v1 is being uploaded as we speak. Thanks to @jarvisandalfred and SoB for the tips on how to shut off all space Specializations, and the DPS After Dark crew for helping us iron out the details.

I'll have to make time for a proper STB run |=) I have some heavy ordinance to unload.

Captains! I've been thinking over a project for our next set of PVE runs. I was wondering if we could put together a group of players for some Elite content. The idea is to use only ships that come with only 2 Tac Consoles (Pathfinder, Malon Battle cruiser, various KDF carriers, etc, etc). I'm curious to if it's feasible to do elite content without the usual route to DPS. Also it's winter here so I need to keep my mind off the cold. Your thoughts???? See you all in game! 07

When you say "Elite".. which ones are you referring to? Korfez? HSE? or something more along the normal ISA?

I'll share some of my experiences.

I'll start off with Korfez. When it first came out it was indeed a challenge to a full team of STB BUT we never did yet implement the dps cap lift so we worked with what we had. Myself I did change some things where and there and upgraded 2 things IIRC but it did take like a total of 4 tries IIRC. When we finished it someone had parsed the run and I averaged it out to about 7 - 8k dps is what we did... I can't remember what ships were used BUT after that run when we found out a strategy, which Kin came up with and others, we were able to take STB members that haven't done it through it and finish it with a high rate of success. What I noticed though is it came down to pre-planning and communication which for that still is true today ESPECIALLY if you get the Benthans phase where each member of the team has to protect a group. So for that I can see it's possible for that one but the last phase will be the hard part but doable.

For HSE... from MY experience in HSE w/STB. We have yet to finish it as it's just been time and getting the right group of ships together which we think are 2 tanks and 3 dpsers. That being said... I've finished an HSE with the dps channels and noticed that even with some hi dps it can be failed if no coordination is done BUT there seems to be a minimum 50k dps req for it which ISA is used as the measure stick. I believe it can be done w/40k min but each STB attempt we've had we have gone over the timer which fails the mission IIRC because it warps you out and you get 10 marks... woot! \o/. So for that one.. at least the first phase.. you need coordination AND dps/tanks. Could we try it?.. of course... you may never know right unless you try?.. and I for one am willing to try with ANYONE as long as we are all clear on what we are doing and what we are bringing.

Now.. for something like ISA.. IMO.. it can be totally done with a team running about 5 - 7k dps. Pre DR we self nerfed our builds and made sure we assigned CC to a certain ship who had it as well as putting the 10 - 20% rule in place which worked beautifully. That one I'm pretty sure we will have no problems with w/2 tac console ships. I can remember ding the old KSE & CSE with only seconds left to spare which made those real nail bitters but finishing them in that fashion felt also all the more rewarding.

I'd like to probably expand on your 2 tac console ship idea.. how about ANY ship but just use 2 tac consoles? Really, if we are going for team coordination we can totally do that on a team to team basis. Somtimes though we don't have a full team but if we do sometimes one needs to parse so we end up going all out anyways.

The theme that I'm getting from this is essentially to get back to the pre DR days where STB nerfed the builds and we more focused on teamwork than dps.

I myself have been trying to push my builds but really only for HSE. With the emphasis as of late to upgrade our equipment, which I know is a choice, I have upgraded most of my stuff and have been experimenting with more torp builds as you and most know.

I am ALWAYS down to more teamwork as when I do these it's NOT for the rewards it's for the pure fun of pewz =)

One thing I have noticed as of late is how much toon maintenance I do as well as others which leaves for some dead chat times. Totally nothing wrong with that but ANYONE is welcomed to ask for a mission or whatever as I'm always down for that.

I made this a lot longer than I probably wanted to.. ahhah... LMK your thoughts Captain 07

Hey thanks for the quick reply. When I say Elite I mean an actual Elite PVE. Not all of them mind you as Hive can be rough even for seasoned veteran players. I would ask if we could shoot for one Elite completion with all optionals. Ship wise I'm looking for a total non escort build run. If it's possible we could run some tape on it and post the video in the Academy section of the forums. I think a lot of players in this game believe that if you don't have an escort with a tac captain with at least 4-5 Tac consoles there is no point in playing. I would like to completely prove that idea wrong. Also it's a good chance for everyone to stretch the builds a bit. Upgraded stuff would be fine (I run upgraded non Epic gear on a lot of my ships). Anyway let the discussion continue....

Two tactical consoles? My Oberth runs one tactical console, heh. ;P

Only using two tactical consoles sounds awesome. Makes space for gimmick consoles :)

BTW: I'm almost back! Installed my new PSU today, the system even started (I'm always scared when changing components). Started STO, but had no sound and a CTD during my first battle. I think I'll need to reinstall some drivers. I guess switching from AMD onboard back to the GeForce GTX260 confused my system.

Ha! Stupid me! I had STO running in Win XP Compatibility Mode from when I tried to get it to run on the internal graphics. Switched that off and I know have sound and no more crashes! I'm officially back!

    Greetings Captains 07

I hope all has been well in STB/STO land.

I just wanted to let you Caps know that RL has been demanding a huge chunk of my time but it's for a great personal cause.

I still will log on every night but as maybe some of you have noticed it's been a bit more than later than usual. I do my daily clicky which is mostly doffing & admirality & daily whatever for whatever the flavor may be. After that it's usually bed time but I try to ask for some runs of whatever as I still do NEED my pewzn hahah

With all my daily clicky & the omega event happening I've noticed myself doing a lot of crafting upgrades & farming of the particles.. I haven't been collecting as much as I did last omega event but I have spent a good time doing that & plan on doing so to get ready for future upgrade plans.

Upgrade weekend has already claimed 400K dill from me hahaha but I got some good things out of it for Triz m main

    - Phaser & torp tac consoles are now all epic
    - Ico core now UR (THIS was painfull!)
    - My lobi consoles the Bio & Tac are now UR

The failed epic attempts this go around were my Quad phaser cannons (This was also painfull), Quantum phase torp & UR'ing of my CC deflector... hurt as I used like 4 omega thingies on my Quads =/.. oh well.. should be hitting gold next upgrade weekend... I may still do some here and there on the alts... well I did do a set of Plasmatic cannons to match his new Quad plasma cannons.

This weekend I plan on crafting some more upgrades & farming for the most part as time allows.

BUT... if anyone needs a hand with anything or company on missions... just ask.. I'll most likely join.

Apologies for the lack of setting up runs but all one needs to do is ask and we'll go... even if it's 2 or 3 as the puglyfe is oh so fun at times haha.

I'm a bit iffy on the Oddy set but Blaze did show me the config I'd most likely use and it may be enough to push me to get the bundle... then there was that trait from one of the ships that stacks dmg when using torps or something like that.. I have till Sunday to decide hahah.

Also, I wanted to throw this out there... I know most of you seen myself and others push canon builds and regulary do ISA runs to test our builds out... it DOES NOT mean that everyone has to push their build... Many of you know that prior to DR dropping there was a dps cap which in itself created a challenge which there was a lack of. When DR hit that was lifted and even more so when the crafting and all the new powercreep came into play.. some of us want to finish and HSE as that is the only elite realy out there to test ships and such but it doesn't mean everyone has to push their builds... if you're happy with what you got.. great... if you want to push dps .. great.. but as long as you're having fun.. and staying canon of course hahah.

STB to me has always been about keeping canon and having fun PERIOD and I want it to stay that way and have all canon lovers that are in STB to just have fun... whatever that may be.

Welp... that's enough yappering for one day... lol.

Captains.. TC and we will see you in game! 07

    Captains 07!
I agree with a lot that is posted above. STB should try to keep things canon. One of the great things about this channel and group is that we keep it close to Star Trek as a lot of us have grown up watching. I see a T1 Connie flying around with AP beams and it's just wrong. As for the note about DPS as you know I'm a big fan of the lower tier runs. One of the main reasons I love those is it keeps everyone with in a somewhat set range in terms of DPS. Epic gear groups and non epic gear groups all pretty even in those runs. Plus it's more teamwork/player skill based which is what what I'm looking for.
I just want to avoid the 1 shot kill we are seeing more of on YouTube. Ok enough of my 2 cents.

    Hey Captains! o7

Well, talking about about DPS... I hit 79k the other day, which finally got me into the 75k channel with an STB build, which I've been working on for months! (when stoacademy is up again here it is: http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/?build=stbarbiter_6112)

At this point Setek is so well equipped it's really hard not to one shot everything. And since loadouts still don't work with traits it takes way too long to set him up for T1/T2 runs. But it's a non-issue as I have 4 other lvl 60 Fed toons and I am currently levelling a 4th one that is doing the whole levelling in a STB equipped T1 Connie and won't leave it at endgame! (outside of getting Starship Traits)

Setek will remain the char I try to push things to the limits, while my other chars are built with a much heavier focus on screen accuracy and gimmicks.

I always giggle when I use the Picard maneuver on my Ferengi with full Ferengi crew in the Nandi.
I even bought the T3 Heavy Cruiser Refit to get access to the Constellation skin. So when not in the Nandi he flies around in the "USS Derelict Ship" :D

I'm really having a lot of fun with themed chars lately. I still have 5 char slots left, one of which will probably be a (alien, because no LTS) Borg. I should have made some of my marauding alts aliens in the first place...

I also wish we'd finally get cross-faction teaming. I have 12 KDF/Rom-KDF alts that I rarely play because I can't just hop in a PuG with STB members!

I have to admit, whenever I read someone wants to play ISA my first reaction is "THIS could be my new record run, or at least I get some data!" and I run it on Setek without thinking twice...
But I am more than willing to switch to one of my other chars (which are more in the 20-30k range), but I need a hint :)

    Happy 2nd STBirthday everyone!

We are not really sure when our beloved Admiral Trizeo started this thread, but it was sometime in February 2014.
To give us some time I hereby propose we designate the last weekend of February as the official Star Trek Battles Birthday. That would be February 27nd/28th this year.

Joining Stat Trek Battles totally changed the game for me. I probably would have left it by now if that "meta-fleet", as someone once called our channel, didn't exist.

What once started as the effort of one man to find likeminded people has evolved into being the trademark for canon builds on STO.

I want to celebrate that with a weekend full of STB awesomeness. On February 27nd/28th I'd love to have some events that tie back to the roots of the Star Trek Battles Channel. Here is where I need your input. Both creative inputs, and if you are space-rich a few items ti give out as prizes would be great.

My brainsotrmingSTB2ndBD.txt (yes, that's really the name I gave that document) already has some ideas:

    - T1/T2 ISA with the bonus objective of kiting the Tac Cube to the edge of the map. Back before Delta Rising we had a low-tier run ISE tzha took so long that the Tac Cube hit the edge of the map. Then it warped back to its spawn location and suddenly had full health again :D

    - All the Enterprises runs: T1 NX, T1 Connie, T2 Connie, Excelsior, Ambassador, Galaxy, Sovereign, Odyssey (8 ships, SB24 works for example)

    - "Where is Sulu?" I could make a new char witht hat name and hide somewhere, giving hints along the way. Steve did that kind of stuff a few times, it's fun!

    So what are your ideas?
If you have any items you'd want to donate as prizes send them to bank@tyrinius (yes, I have toon dedicated for stuff like this :D)

    THIS...WILL..BE..EPIC!

Sounds like a fantastic idea! I was also thinking we do a TNG, TMP run. Maybe an all Defiant run. A few 20 person runs would be pretty cool to celebrate! I'm on board! Let's get the word out!

Sounds like fun! I'm definitely game for some STB action on Feb. 27/28 if I can make it.

Edit: Also geeking out that we are currently posting on page 42.

We survived quite a lot of "forum fires" without moderator intervention, and yes it IS pretty awesome :)

    (intentional double-post)

My bank toon just got a pretty awesome supply drop from trizeo. Still looking for ideas. nayone really savvy with Trek Canon could make a quiz?

I'd also like to use this as an opportunity to get more captains into the STB channel. Or at least increase awarenss of what we do. But to not clutter up the STB channel I was thinking about doing a separate channel for that event. What do you think?
