So - because its bonus marks weekend - theres a million ppl doing CCE. I queue up, zone in - and before ive even gotten in range the entity is at 45%. Within25 seconds the thing is dead. I fired for all of 5 second. OK - i get it - had some real badasses in the group and the instance launched before the queue was 100% full. But - I get a TWO HOUR "afk penalty" and cannot play any STFs for that time? for WHAT? sucks. I get the point of the ban but jesus i cant outshoot ppl who can do a whole CCE run in less than 60 seconds.
not cool cryptic, not cool

Support 90 degree arc limitation on BFaW! Save our ships from looking like flying disco balls of dumb!
That said, with a certain torp bug out in the open, I can see more people abusing that in CCA until the fix gets patched into Holodeck. Expect more sub 1-minute runs or even 30sec runs especially now with the event.

CCA placings are actually based on healing rather than DPS
CC is apparently also a bad joke nowadays. Ridiculous it can be over before you even get through the loading screen.
And of course jerk players say you "deserve" a penalty for the crime of being placed into an instance that's seconds away from finish. Because they're jerks.
Strongly agreed
THAT is something i did not know - and being an engi - makes a LOT of sense for my placing...
Actually it is BOTH Healing and DPS.
If you can get high HPS and DPS numbers, you will outscore someone who has higher HPS than you but no to little damage. Also vice versa, high HPS and DPS > higher DPS and little to no HPS.
Lesson: Do a little more damage and throw some heals around and you wont ever get the AFK penalty.
What he said
It was a pug. you have a random chance to get players who can't even put a dent in a normal NPCs' shields or players who can vaporize elite NPCs by sneezing on them.
To get by in CCA you need to have a ship that outputs kinetic/exotic damage and does decent healing.
PSA: CCA is one of the hardest, if not THE HARDEST queue to get an AFK penalty in. so... gratz.
Yup, this is the truth of it.
It's possible to come first place with relatively little shooting taking place it you really spam those heals on yourself or teammates.
But the best tactic is to really get stuck in with some kinetic action on the entity whilst hitting those heals. Grav well that sucker and then flatten anything stuck there with torp spreads. I find the Tholians are not usually a problem if someone has a grav well in play as everything is in one place getting chain-warp-core-breached to death.
Even the shards flying round are no problem as they have zero resistance to the pull of a grav well.
He spent 5 seconds of the available time contributing according to his own words.
I managed to get 1st after turning my Samsar into a healboat. And this is on a Tac. I had managed 1st on sci and engie, and even 1st on my KDF tac, but my main... it remained elusive until I did the healboat.
LOL Ive gotten the penalty with so much lag I couldn't turn my ship, Ive gotten into CCA with with the entity half dead and still placed. That being said CCA is pretty much a big joke these days. I wish there was a CCE life would be better with a mission that actually challenges people at least a little bit. I'd also like to see elite versions of all the original STF's as well, but that's another topic all together. That being said if you get in and participate you should not get the penalty, its not very much fun to queue it up get in and see the entity at 45%. If I see an odd number of people in the "Playing" column I'll wait a few seconds till I see an even number(i.e. 40) to try and make sure I get a fresh mission.
That's a good tip.
What I have taken to doing if I see the entity getting battered that fast is literally throw everything I have at everything I can, as quickly as I can. TRIBBLE the "objectives" and long term survival, just put out as much dps and healing as you can as quickly as you can.
Its kind of a bummer that it has to be that way, but when it works (and it usually does), its really fast marks/dil.
"If this will be our end, then I will have them make SUCH an end as to be worthy of rememberance! Out of torpedos you say?! Find me the ferengi!".
"If this will be our end, then I will have them make SUCH an end as to be worthy of rememberance! Out of torpedos you say?! Find me the ferengi!".
This is true. I have gotten 2nd and 3rd place just carrying 1 torpedo, using no boff skills (just normal shots) and casting heals left and right.
This is good advice. I also find that queueing in from sector space is the best way to go since this skips the warp animation letting you get to the loading screen sooner.

4 secs is in a pre-made team, using very specific gear, traits and skills activated in unison. You're highly unlikely going to get that in a PUG scene. I have however been in several PUGs lasting less than 30s.
Remember, the entity only has 5.1M HP. A combination of weapons fire and Tholian warp core breaches can finish that off really quickly.

After Delta Rising and with today's Power Creep, CCA (the highest version) is even easier.
"You gotta get yours before I gotta get mine."
You can blame 2 groups for any and all AFK bans relating to CCA:
1st the player base that cried, knashed teeth, and threw tantrums because Advanced Queues where too difficult.
2nd the devs for listening to the whiners, giving them what they wanted, and not releasing Elite queues.
So now you have a CCA queue that is only slightly more difficult than a CCN, and no CCE in sight.
If you look at it from a Diablo 3 perspective, you have players geared for GR100+ but the only content around is Easy and Easy+.
I still remember at Delta Rising's release, CCA was tougher. Part of that was us all getting used to the DR release, but it was a far cry from the Pre-DR CCE. But now CCA is just easy. It's guaranteed success. The only true danger in the current CCA is if you allow yourself to get surrounded by Tholians. The Entity itself? Only newbies had to worry about that.
DRB also works well against those GW dogpiles
