Does anyone else think this odd, or have a problem with it?
The Cut-off should be Captain. I mean even the advertisements say "YOU are the Captain!". If you start or join a Fleet THEN it makes sense for those admiral ranks to be given out. If you aren't in a Fleet then Captain you shall stay. Nothing wrong with that. Captains get most if not all the action as well as the ladies AND can still command the best ships
Then ground combat along with SO MANY other things (like lower ranking officers giving you orders? Lol!) will fit more in line, make sense even. Replaying episodes would also still be immersive and valid. Fleet Admiral providing limo service for a dime-a-dozen trader to Starbase 39? Ya... no. How about a high profile Fleet Admiral doing lower level intelligence grunt work and a little gambling on the side in Drozana? Try again. A Captain however, would fit the bill for all these things.
It should be...
Cadet (1-9)
Ensign (10-19)
Lieutenant (20-29)
Lt. Commander (30-39)
Commander (40-49)
Captain (50-60)
You cannot create or join a Fleet until you reach Captain rank. Fleets should be part of endgame content. Yes I said it! The initiator/creator of the Fleet then becomes the Fleet Admiral. The co-founders become the Admirals or if the co-founders leave after creation then the Fleet Admiral can choose 4 people MAX to fill those positions. Vice Admiral, Rear Admiral (Lower/Upper) and Commodore ranks for everyone else that qualifies and or proves themselves to the Fleet's members as described in their charter. Likewise if you leave a fleet you lose those ranks. But you will always be a Captain. So Admiral ranks become more of social rank befitting their roles within a Fleet. And yes fleet ranks become set and cannot be renamed.
None of this join the "Power Puff Girls" fleet with Bestest Friend, Best Friend, Family Friend, Good Friend, Friend, and Acquiantance for ranks >.<

The pips on your portait (as well as info), mission addressing, and NPCs still show and address you as whatever is the highest rank you attained.

I too don't adjust the rank from Captain/Commander. The exception is of course when a Klingon becomes a Dahar Master. I care nothing about admiral ranks either.
Exactly the point. Why not uniformity then. If you see your character as a Captain why not the game sees you as a Captain as well. It just breaks the immersion.

Let us explore it... together. Each man hides a secret pain. It must be exposed and reckoned with. It must be dragged from the darkness and forced into the light. Share your pain. Share your pain with me... and gain strength from the sharing.
That said, the cat's out of the bag I'd just like the NPCs to recognize my CHOOSEN title of Captain and address me as such.
It that really so hard to code?

I would prefer a revamped PVP system in which higher ranked PVP players attain higher ranks of Admiral.
Agreed.
I have to agree though, player progression should have probably stopped at Captain. Most of the characters from the show that people admire (Kirk, Picard, Janeway, Sisko, etc) were Captains for the majority of their shows. I think most players would have been fine with being Captains. Now however, it's a little too late. People would likely have a negative reaction to revamping it now and taking peoples rank. I however, would be all for it.

Why are you not rejoicing?
Probably is. This topic does come up every once in a while.

And he has yet to have Medical Personnel scan for airborne pathogens. I mean, hundreds of female Starfleet Officers seem afflicted with some sort of debilitating condition that deforms their hips into almost a 45° angle.
The man has gotten too complacent.

This for me, as well. My own character is a Captain; so I just ignore them calling her 'Admiral'. Problem solved.
Would it be better to have the rank as something we can somehow set/choose? Yeah. But unfortunately, this has been asked so many times and unanswered, that I don't see that changing.

How do you lord over someone who is the same rank? He runs ESD you run a ship... and maybe a half complete Starbase? And he still give you orders... I mean missions xD

Perfect Solution! This allows you still keep the levels but the ranks are just changed

I've been asking for a retexture/reskin of the Defiant-class to look more like the TV show's Defiant. They finally heard! So now I'm going for this one

I was always a little sad once my Character was promoted to Rear Admiral. To see the 4 pips disappear and the game to stop referring to you as Captain does take a bit of the fun out of it. But I've seen this pop up many times over the last 6 years. Unfortunately Rank will not be decoupled from Level, barring some sort of miracle.
Although I wish you luck on trying to get Cryptic to change their minds.
First off, don't dare take my rank away from me, even though they have yet to code I mean begin to address me as "Lord High" Admiral...
Though for those of us (heck, I have one or two alts) who prefer to be able to set their rank title to a lower rank and be addressed by that title in-game, I have absolutely no problem with that, either.

But I would really wish the text of junior officers giving you orders is changed to at least have them passing along some other fleet admiral's instructions - it would have the same effect, not much re-drafting required, but gets over the stupidity of a Commander ordering a flag officer around.
Excellent idea. +1
It really should be
Commander (1-5)
Captain (6-60)
Admiral or Fleet Captain rank should be a branching specialization/prestige path in the end, but other than that you never do anything a Lieutenant does. You are a captain from beginning to end and even in the tutorial you start as a first officer and should already be commander. Nobody wants that academy story anyways and it would save the whole "war war battle arrr we need captains so ensign become captains!" nonsense.
