Never liked this whole "From Cadet to Fleet Admiral in a year" story, so I just don't roll with it in my "headcanon" & character history. It'd be more ideal if our ranks were something we can choose, that way, everyone wins; but for now, simply just dismissing the 'Admiral-thing' is only thing we can do.

I still want to have 2-4 npc ships from my inventory group with me on independent missions and have a small floatilla, commanded by boff captains and commanders.

Ya, didn't they say they were going to do this, promote your BOffs to Captain?

One way to circumvent the cadet to fleet admiral is play a Section 31 agent. Those guys can take any rank and have almost unlimited resources and authority.

The first Belfast was commanded by Captain Ve'Kal Shon until its destruction in 2409. A new ship was commissioned bearing the same name and registry as special dispensation to then newly promoted Captain Edward XIII for his pivotal role during the renewed Dominion War.
