@meimeitoo have you ever played any other mmos? Some make major skill changes often, broken or not, just to keep the game fresh. Sto has the least amount of skill adjustments of any mmo I've ever played.

Nah, I just play STO. (I used to play a bit of EvE too, but the 'non-consensual PvP' thingy didn't agree with me).
I don't like this new nerf (if it even is one, and not a bug); but I kinda let go of KLW a long time ago, so it's all good.

Heh, as an example of a DRASTIC functionality change.... In the original Diablo 2, Sorceress Lightning mastery reduced the Mana cost of Lightning spells. Then in the expansion it was changed to a damage boost. And yeah, some builds actually tried to rely on the cost reduction to work. Those builds were less effective after but still did more damage... at least until they ran out of Mana.
Nobody cared much when science got the nerfbat...why should I care that Tacs got one too? IMO it was long overdue (1 skills.should.nit boost dps by 40%) and I hope Alpha gets it next
Your statement basically proves you have no idea what is going on. The kemo exploit was fixed quite awhile ago. Quoting outdated information in such a negative way makes you look clueless and petty.
If it makes it cheaper so I can easily afford it for a few torpedo boats...I'm all for it! Besides...anyone who doesn't admit it's silly for a Ens skill to do so much damage is just doing so to save their OP skill.

QFT.
How about science gets an ability that makes all their weapons do bonus particle gen scaling damage in an aoe!! And make it a per-shot proc too. Everyone slot turrets and Rapid Fire, and TOTALLY BREAK THE META!
Wasn't this always going to happen?
Cryptic release a massively overpowered skill, but make it very hard to get. So lots and lots of people spend way too much cash/zen/dil/ec to buy them. So Cryptic makes a TRIBBLE load of cash from one lockbox.
They don't nerf the skill while the lockbox is still going, even though everyone knows its stupidly OP.
Then, after the lockbox is gone, after the hype has gone, after the cash intake is just normal instead of pouring in, then they nerf it. And they nerf the absolute TRIBBLE out of it, on multiple levels.
They knew it was OP and needed to be nerfed, but there was no way they were doing it till after they made their money.
Now all those that spent way too much cash on them are wondering why they aren't super overpowered anymore.
Everyone knew this was coming, you had your OP spree, now everyone has to deal with it.
The funny thing is cryptic now knows people will buy the TRIBBLE out of a lockbox if there is something very very OP in it.
So soon enough they will do it again. Release a new skill or trait that is crazy powerful. People will overbuy it, then once again complain when months later when the cash flow slows down, it gets nerfed.
For the people who don't know this. This post was copied and pasted from the infamous Cryptic bible of dark profit gains. I don't know how in the hell you was able to get this but bravo on doing it and still being alive (if you still are). From my understanding there is only one Dark Crypic bible that still exsists and its locked up in a vault in the 7th level of dirty profit gains hell. All I'm saying is this. You are one brave human being and I salute you for your bravery but I don't know if it was worth it. Now your gonna have to look over your shoulder everywhere you go and sleep with one eye open. Not to mention the constent demon possesions your going to have to keep warded off 24-7. I bid you farwell and may God protect you.
P.S. On a very serious note people should read this and believe it. Cause over time the greed only gets worse. Next time it will be torps that do nuclear explosions for 10mil dps per click. Nice but only one in every 2000 lockboxes opened. We should all wise up. It should also be illegal for cryptic to be able to increase the odds whenever they "feel" like it. Profits down this week. Release another kemocite box. Its wrong, WRONG!! but oh well. What can a person do.

I think it's quite sufficient if people stopped making it profitable to release imbalanced stuff and have it nerfed later.
Something seems OP? Everyone should immediately stop using it and everyone not having it should stop doing anything that could allow Cryptic to make profit from it.
That forces Cryptic to do the extra work to get the balance better on the first try, because otherwise making new powers isn't profitable.
But people always chase the new OP stuff. And so they give Cryptic good reason to keep releasing overpowered ships and items.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
Another nerf to kemo? Well I like to have some balance but step by step turning one of the strongest tac powers into one of the weakest does not feel right.
Nobody cared much when science got the nerfbat...why should I care that Tacs got one too? IMO it was long overdue (1 skills.should.nit boost dps by 40%) and I hope Alpha gets it next
Sad that one of my sci toons arranging stuff around radiation gets the hardest hit by this. At least I have AP Beta as back-up plan. Never needed anything else for PvE really, was just hoping for a bit more variety.

Yeah I bought kemo 1+3 when they first came out for 60 mil each just because. If this is the new level it's almost not even worth slotting even on my torpedo boats.

That will never happen...some people need the OP powers to make up for their otherwise lack luster DPS.
People needed to use the Neutronic torp for decent DPS till it was fixed...people needed SS III for DPS...people needed Kemo for DPS.
The game has had OP powers, they go on for a while till they finally get fixed...people complain and then wait for the next OP thing and follow the pack once again.

Yep we always wait for our OP Clickies. Space Nuke please! I actually really want one would be cool to have a 2 min cd torp that makes a 8km orange explosion of 150k kinetic damage (weakens the farther you are from the epicenter) doom with a radiation field afterwards

that isn't anywhere near drastic; 'drastic' would be the complete and utter removal of Critical Mass from the D3 wizard's passive repitoire and replaced with a passive unrelated in any way to the former
you can't get any more drastic with a functionality change than removing it completely

kLW is legit for sure, and has been hellafun to use, but if they want to adjust it just find a different strategy. This isnt even a STO problem.. Every game with rules that change have this problem when overpowered things get out of hand. Anybody else remember a guy named Jace, the mind sculptor in mtg standard? He was selling for $100 a pop when you needed 4 and They banned em altogether because it was getting rediculous. Doesnt mean i didnt bave fun usin em while i could.
I love how the "PvP" bomb is being dropped in different threads and is being used as an illustration for why balance and nerfing of certain abilities is needed.
I have to say it's taken a while for PvE community to realise this instead of crying like they used to about how PvP spoils the fun by nerfing their super-special-awesome-broken-doom-cheese.
If you don't like fair play, rules and a challenge don't use the Internet and play MMOs! You're not going to have fun.
*Grabs popcorn and waits for the #Un-NerfMyKemo thread*
I hope your sharing the popcorn semalda, cause i brought the ultra guzzler of soda, and econosized super value ultra deluxe mega sized box of mild duds
I've never used it. Never needed it. I'm not a 733t player.
But knowing the player base I'm assuming this was yet another one of those "I Win! Button" attacks? Because that's the only time players get upset by nerfs
(If this is not what the topic is about, please let me know so I can delete the accursed thing.)
The fact remains that kemo was procc'ing far too often with FAW for far too much DPS as opposed to any torp skill, despite the tooltip stating something about projectile weapons.
Thus any time that KLW was used it would absolutely slaughter anybody/thing that tried to go against it...not something that an Ensign-level skill should do, especially when the other two relatively-underwhelming career choices in the game don't and have never (sci?) had anything remotely near as good as what tacs get.
Never had kemo myself, so I can't exactly comment on my personal thoughts about it.
Most of us knew that a nerf was going to happen eventually, it was completely unavoidable.
Those that spent heavily on these items knew that they did it for a short term return that could vanish any day, and now it has. Personally, I opted to avoid it but others spent heavily on KLW and now their advantage has come to an end.
If they nefed it too far, then it should be further evaluated. The ability is obtained from lock boxes so in most cases people got these through the use of real money, they should get something worth the investment. As it sits right now it looks like KLW is parsing less DPS then Directed Energy Modulation so perhaps they went a little too heavy handed on the ol nerf bat.
The sad reality for those that use KLW is that once Cryptic over nerfs something, they almost never go back and fix it. More then likely, you're all just out the money/ec/dilithium/whatever that you spent to get KLW.
This was one of the skills that almost came with a disclaimer ever since it was released. Most knew it had to be fixed sooner or later and Devs always were very transparent of what was coming unlike other stealth nerfs of the past. If you bought it using the millions of EC needed or open the boxes in hope to get them it was certainly that it would have to be fixed sooner or later. Sorry for those who spent resources on it...but if you do a search in the forums the nerf was well documented. I'm just glad I did not spend a dime or time on this skill as some of us who knew what was coming.

Pretty much...a Ensign ability that could pretty much out-damage everything almost except for things like FaW.

Umm people still get massive dps from kemo alone a almost 10000 even after the nerf to the exploit
I'd be curious as to the circumstances of 10k, as well as what percentage of the total it represents. Kemo's had 3 life stages, i.e. original release, first round of fixes (Dec. 3 patch notes) and the current state. In the first stage, my copies of KLW 2 + 3 averaged 16-17k, with an exceptional 25k run, out of 75k. Stage 2, it's doing 5k, maybe 6 out of 75k, with the addition of the Multi-Conduit Energy Relay, and about 4k without it. Recent average in the past few days with the same build in the same maps and random teams has varied from 1k to 1.5k, maybe reaching 2k with no CrtH or flanking %, again out of 75k total. Some change has taken place since the Dec.3 exploit fixes, but it is quantified no where that I know of, and I'd love to know if this is the state of kemo from here on, so I can drop it for things like focused assault and APD w/delta prime. Qualifying the above with the fact that I haven't tested proc rates as I've seen debate of in other threads, and I'm a fed engineer, without gdf/invincible/apa to amp the damage up enough to highlight any differences.
Im.having Flashbacks of the Tau Dewa Class Nerfbat that massacred 20 of my spec points....
i.e. Japori in the original post-DR state? Where people were capping out all the spec trees in a day or 2 and thereafter capping their dilithium several times over each day? That can't have needed a retroactive fix...
