Nope it doesn't work. In fact, it's even work. It's an instant crash to moment I hit ENGAGE.

So, for me running normally gets past Cryptic screen and crashes on New Dawn loading screen. I'm on 15.11 with a 7770. Using "-d3d9" DID work for me, at least to finally get into the game itself, but I haven't played around much so can't vouch for stability or crashes during gameplay.
I see there is also the "workaround" of downgrading the drivers, but considering every other game I run has worked fine (including Neverwinter, so _someone_ in house must know how to not break this...) that seems sort of a lame fix. Sad to see this has been broken so long as well. I didn't know since I didn't do the upgrade immediately.

Comment from discussion Possible issue with new AMD Crimson drivers?
    Same issue, on a R7 200 1 GB w/ Win 10 Pro 64bit

    Observations:

Running in safe mode -> working
    Windowed/fullscreen -> working
Graphic details CPU full -> working
Graphic details GPU up to 3rd medium setting -> working

Graphic details GPU slider above medium -> crash
Antialiasing (any setting above none) -> crash
Bloom "high" -> crash ("off" and "low" do work)

My AMD card is not supported by Crimson Edition, only by Catalyst 15.7.1 or older.
15.7.1 Catalyst but have to roll back to 15.201.1 on the driver for the card to plat sto. and this makes it harder when running other things. could we get an option to have sto be the only thing using the older catalyst/driver stuff?

The "-d3d9" command line changed something for me... but not enough to allow me to play : before it the game crashed before reaching character selection, after it it crashes right after reaching it. After removing that command line, the game still crashes at the same place.

Have you tried launching in safe mode at the same time? (can be added in the same place as the command line)

I tried it as well, and in that case the game is stuck at loading screen without getting any further.

Yes I am. But it doesn't work. With dx9 I can play for a few minutes but the moment I try trasnferring to another map it crashes my whole system. Not just STO. This new driver was a real upgrade for my other games so I'm not rolling it back. I will just stay away from STO until Cryptic fixes it. And considering the answers I got from support and the fact that we haven't heard from them on the forums I don't think they will be fixing it any time soon. I will concentrate on Neverwinter and The Old Republic.

I´m getting constant crashes and DOD blue screens of death in win 7 ultimate, It´s like a lottery if the game will crash, run the load "Criptic" screen after "engage" or if it will freeze with the windows blue screen of death to make me reboot.

But the problem is only with STO.

I have tried to fix the problem lowering the settings, using save mode, the game console "-d3d9" and file verification.
The only thing I haven´t try is to revert the graphic card drivers and that´s an issue I shouldn´t be thinking about.

The problem is directly related to STO and AMD graphic cards drivers because it runs smoothly in my old laptop in win 7 with directx 11 and no graphic card.

I Use AMD Crimson Edition New Beta, and it works.
I was getting constant crashes on 2 of my systems until I updated to crimson hotfix beta (on one system), and disabled the boom setting in the game. Now it runs DX11 mode, and only occasional lag in qued instances. Though the crashes have for most part stopped.

I'm using latest Crimson Beta driver for my R9 290X running STO on DX9 because I can't play STO on DX11 on any of my ATI cards. Even my older ones using older driver just aren't supported. I've sent many tickets and crash reports. I've received no answer nor any fixes for 2 years. Now with DX12 here I wonder what cryptic will do? There are a lot of bugs in this game. ATI issues are a real pain in the TRIBBLE. I've tried all kinds of tweaking full screen windowed, setting changes.. On DX11 game crashes randomly with some driver error, only DX9 works.

The latest patch seems to have restored things to pre 31/12/15 situation. I can now use max settings and seem to have stopped crashing. Still in DX9, not tried changing that yet.

    Anyone else noting any improvement?

so... I was finally able to get my game going again, max settings and AA even.

AMD Crimson was already up to date, so I decided to go dicking around through the options on both the game and crimson. The thing I noticed was that crimson had unchecked the option for enabling crossfire for directx 9/10/11 and OpenGL applications that have no associated application profile. I used to have this checked before Crimson due to a previous winter event making AA do that blocky glitch and crashing, so that helped the crashing at least.

Now that I've got it checked again, the game seems to be running at max, with all of AMD's settings either overriding or enhancing.

Hopefully this helps you like it did me.

Seems that the last patch fixed it for me.
    Thanks for the tips.

I seem crash on map transfers and at random places. For no reason at all, it's only STO as I can run nearly every other game I play at max settings with no issues.

I got so tired of trying to log in I did a search for STO STF and copied the photo for a background image. That way I know what an STF looks like.

I do not instantly crash but the game does lock up about 1 in 3 chance during map changes. I am using a Dell XPS 435t desktop. I currently have a AMD ATI Radeon 7700 graphics card. 310 power supply. Dual monitors. Windows 10 OS. Plenty of RAM and hard drive space.

Problems started after doing the systems test to upgrade from Windows 7 to 10. At that time I had a Radeon 4350. STO ran perfect every day for years. Upgrading to 10 destroyes my display. I reverted back to win 7 and all was well. As it turns out, Windows 10 will not support a 4300 series graphics card. I upgraded to the 7700 to run dual monitors. All was well. Upgraded to Win 10 again. All worked. But upon launch and since then when changing maps the map load screen opens and the timer progress locks. Opening the task manager shows the game client not responding. Neither the client nor task manager window can be selected. The only option is a full restart or power down then start.

When logging back in the character is in the destination map.

When logging out of STO the sound system will not work. Attempting to use another application a prompt states "sound is in use by another app. Close app." The only solution is to restart. I can't listen to any of my online college lectures until this is done.

If anyone has solutions let me know. I have tried everything I know. The next step is buying another machine so I can have time to wipe and rebuild this one so I don't miss classes.

Rolling back to d3 d9, and turning down bloom, video quality etc, seems to be working. Only 1 lock up in 4 hours.

I couldn't use AA or bloom in Dx11 without a crash and I could use dx9 just fine with everything on. That was with my fx-6300/r9 270x. Now I just upgraded to fx-8320/r9 390 and dx9/11 are both hitching/stuttering like crazy, the AA/bloom issues stayed the same. (not that I thought it would change)

I'm still freezing during map transfers. Usually it takes 10-15 minutes to start happening, but then is starts happening more frequently as I play. Some one elsewhere mentioned that it's probably a memory leak issue, but who knows. I've noticed that in my case at least, it seems to be happening more when it's trying to load the screenshots, so around 40-50 on the load screen counter.

wow, so my game crashes because of the new graphics drivers....
and in the middle of the anniversary celebration. any chance of those being extended while cryptic fixes this issue? I'd hate to not get the ship because i cant play the game.....
THE NEW CRAFTING SYSTEM IS TERRA-BAD
First of all it's not even a crafting system! It's just a dumb game system that's nothing more than a glorified slots machine.
second the "special items" you hope will be the saving the saving grace are messed up to.
