The exe, tho as of s11 I've had to gamebooster followed by ip connection repair in windows, then traceroute twice to cryptics patchserver before the launcher will connect.

Because when they made us switch to ARC it never worked for me so I said to hell with them. STO launcher worked fine too once i found the installer that worked. But then i just switched to Steam since its a lot easier for me to uninstall/reinstall the game...which for the past year or so i've been doing a lot.
because unlike those tinfoil-wearing conspiracy whackjobs, i know it isn't malware, spyware, bloatware or whatever other kind of TRIBBLE people have dredged up about it over the years
(disclaimer: i do not consider everyone who dislikes it as such, just the ones who took their dislike of ARC to major extremes)

I wanted the khan outfit but it involved ARC so I do without. I refuse to d/l ARC
Or you could have done like I did...
D/L ARC to get the Kahn Outfit, then just delete it.
I still use the stand-alone launcher.

Stand alone. I have occasionally launched from Arc if I've just played another game on it and it was open already (or when they give extra reward for using it, of course), but otherwise...why waste time starting up Arc first, when the direct desktop shortcut runs the exact same file Arc would?

dunno bout others but I find it to be bloatware because it wants to be steam/origin but isn't needed or wanted, esp as I only play STO of the games on it, and might possibly some cold cold day in hell, go back to neverwinter which is also on steam.
I get that steam takes an UGLY % of purchases but, really... we dont need a new steam/origin/uplay/etc etc per publisher
You don't need the Arc game client for redemption codes. They still have a HTML page for that. I used it for the Alienware IDIC Tribble giveaway last month.

This. These launcher wars and, more recently, streaming service wars do the end user absolutely no good. I don't want to have to have fifteen different launchers installed on my computer just to pad some one-percenter's bottom line, any more than I want to have to pay for five different video services or miss out on the one or two actual gems in their lineup *cough* CBS All-Access *cough cough*.
Arc is the very definition of bloatware for the simple reason that it's an extra piece of software to install and run for no actual benefit to me. I have the same opinion of Steam, but the bloat is offset by the store's prices and diversity of catalog. I'm not willing to make that tradeoff for Arc because I have no interest in their other games, all of which are just free-to-play grindfests instead of something like Pillars of Eternity, Skyrim, or X3: Terran Conflict that had actual love put into making people want to play it by making it fun to level-grind.

Same here pretty much...I primarily use Steam.
I had Arc for codes, but since those are pretty much non-existent anymore, I just uninstalled it.
Ditto.

Debated that, but decided I didnt want to add to their 'metrics' saying ARC is the best client ever and players love it :P

It's true. I just checked my statement and apparently, I bought @pwlaughingtrendy a new jewel encrusted ban hammer last month.
I was going to dispute it, but then I figured it was probably best for everyone is she was allowed to keep it.
