    Alpha... Sleek over fat...
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Can we please stop with this 'true fans' BS? Does it truly matter how you found Star Trek? The only thing that matters is that you did and you call yourself a fan...regardless if it was watching TOS, The TOS movies, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT or even the reboot movies. A fandom cannot survive if it's constantly turning on itself.
    Your pain runs deep.
Let us explore it... together. Each man hides a secret pain. It must be exposed and reckoned with. It must be dragged from the darkness and forced into the light. Share your pain. Share your pain with me... and gain strength from the sharing.

Beta. If the bottom nacelles on Alpha's were in line with the top it'd be a whole lot better.

yeah, true fans don't care about whether someone is a true fan or not.

I voted Beta but I would prefer to meld the two together. I like Beta's saucer hate Alpha's saucer but prefer Alpha's mission pod.

I wish they had let us vote on the parts used rather than the ship... It's still all their design we just have to choose which design we dislike least.

Alpha has a nice rounded arrow head look from above and side on looks 'right', however this is only my fave of the two.

If it was a straight out vote between all 8 of them I would go for Sigma all the way.

For me it goes between Epsilon and Sigma. I might as well pass as long as these designs are not at stake.

I like compact ships designs and short/small designs. They are there for propulsion, why all the different designs? You just not make things on a star ship just for the design. It is not a piece of art, just something to look at. It is there to have a function.

Actually, in designing the enterprise D, the "not so functional" look of it was dismissed as, in the future, technology might be so advanced, what with structural integrity fields to reinforce structures that are otherwise structurally unsound/wouldn't be able to withstand the forces exerted by the ship/combat without the field anyway, that ships might be designed to be a work of art that the people would be proud to fly around in and less a form of function.

LOL. Will we get play by play details between them? I understand why they may want more control over what we pick, but this seems a bit overdone.

Don't worry. This has become a good game, but it's not WOW (longevity). Eventually, in my opinion, STO and everything that happened in it will be dropped by CBS (or whomever owns the rights by that point) for a newer game. At that point, ship designs will start over with the "canon" ships, and go from there. Until then, I'll pick what I dislike the least and hope for the best. Sometimes, I'm pleasantly surprised.

    BETA, I think.

I originally voted for the Gamma as it was similar to the Akira type ships which are carriers in the first place and one should naturally surmise that their design path would be followed to such a logical conclusion but since it was rejected I am forced to support my second choice which was the Beta due to its more iconic wide saucer. All the "newbie" Trekies out there love the egg shaped saucers or the no saucer at all designs but it just makes me less likely to take them seriously when they claim to actually be true fans. As someone who became a fan long before there was TNG, has seen all the movies (including the two JJ disasters :'( oh the horror!), watched every last episode of every series, and has been a truly loyal fan all my life I have to say to all of you that a ship simply isn't Federation without that iconic saucer design and I am sorry but I just could never bring myself to think of one as such without it.

What do you mean you originally voted for gamma? And what do you mean it's been rejected? Gamma hasn't even come up for a vote yet.

And alpha and gamma are practically the same design, gamma has a less round saucer than alpha, so what are you on about?

This is an interesting concept (voting on ship designs)

I wish we could see some of the reasoning / detail behind the designs. I can't see where do the fighters launch from! It is a carrier, I'd like to see the shuttle bay as a prominent, but neatly displayed, feature.

It doesn't have to look like the carriers of Battlestar Galatica, but it could at least have some items that make it look different from other fed ships.

Alpha. Arrowhead saucer, nice nascelles. Lean, mean, fast and elegant.
I just have this feeling that the stats on beta will make it out to be a ship that ends up feeling like a tugboat because of its horrible, slow turning speed.

You are both deluding yourself if you think your perception of the carrier as "sleek" or "faster looking" is going to actually take this thing out of tug-boat town.

Tug boats are actually not slow, they are super powerful little boats capable of pulling hulking ships many times their size around, so what these carriers will need is a tug boat to help them turn... but I digress.

Alpha from above may look sleek and whatever, but from the side looks like a hulk, and I"m betting no matter which model wins, they will all have the TRIBBLE turn rate inherent to carriers, so just don't get your hopes up on that one.

What makes you think that ANY Carrier designed ship is going to have a fast turning speed?
Also, why does anybody think that the stats are going to be based on the "Look" of the ship.
A true Carrier isn't going into battle as anything more than a very large support vessel that has just enough oomph to defend itself...
You guys are really dreaming if you think Cryptic is going to make this ship into a hard hitting battleship.
    smh

Then I scroll down a little further and see this... lol. *high five*

Normally I like ships with a design like Alpha, but Beta looks like it would make a much better carrier. I expect a carrier to have a nice, wide flight deck with room to launch all the small craft. #TeamBeta

Hopefully we'll get to do something fun like this for the KDF side soon too. =)

I suspect that's exactly the reason the feds are getting a true fed carrier, so that when the t6 voquv and possibly a romulan version launch, they can all launch together and have the same trait.

I hope people aren't picking escort looking ships thinking it's going to fly like one, if it's really going to be a carrier it should have one of the worst turning rates in the game. A carrier is bulky, it doesn't just carry fighters it carries the fuel, parts, ordinance, machine shops and support crew to maintain those fighters, it's a floating military airbase, or in our case a mobile military spaceport, so look for something that's going to be convincing in that role.
I picked the Beta because I hate monohull Federation ships and see no point in Quad engines unless there is a purpose, like saucer sep or multi mode. Some of the details of the top view on the Beta hint at hangers being located on the fringe of that center chevron and it would need storage space hence the bulk of the saucer and engineering hull.
As much as I despise the Jupiter, it is actually bulky enough to fit the role of a carrier, even though I don't think it's fit for the role of Garbage Scow.
In the end if this selection thing, which I can foresee being a drawn out affair, ultimately ends up giving us a ship like the Omega, I dearly hope they use that model to replace the Jupiter in game, so we can finally be rid of that horror.
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.
    Oh Hell NO to ARC

Nah, that'll take so long that the concept of "canon" will have changed by then. :p Maybe the new canon standard will be nuTrek the Next Generation. :D

Across the board almost none of those designs say carrier. In Star Trek two cannon ships could be classified as light carriers, the Constellation class though she looks more like a working class carrier for heavy Engineering projects. And the Akira is classified as a flight deck carrier. Working from those two designs could be a solid option, though in Star Trek Games there is a Carrier Commanded by Worf that would work as a great launching point for a Federation Carrier. Take a look at Star Trek Invasion for the PS-1. That ship is a solid design, with its own flair of Federation Fighters. Taking that idea and running with it could provide a great foundation for a Large Carrier Class ship.
Space is vast, it's wonderful and maddening. Yet in that madness is some of the greatest beauty I have ever seen.

The typhon from the game looks alot like the sigma and epsilon to me in the "flying hulky mono-hull" department, perhaps even more the delta due to it looking the bulkiest of them all to me.

I think what the akira tells us is that any design can be a carrier. The akira has no features that make it particularly look better suited to being a carrier than any other ship, it's not particularly large, it has no particular aesthetic like "oh, this is obviously a carrier." Pretty much any ship that allocates large portions of the interior to craft storage and support could be a carrier, a galaxy could hollow out much of its insides, get rid of several labs, the park, etc, (though that may not even be necessary as I seem to recall reading that galaxy class starships left about 1/8th of their interior "blank" for future expansion/alteration as needed) and fill it with heaps and heaps of fighter bays.

I personally thought the command cruisers should have always been command carriers as they have the bulk for it and the neck clearly has two hangar doors in it. But whatever, it will be interesting to see what these ships look like the more they get fleshed out. It's too bad we aren't given more concept art to start with. At least a full orthographic would have been nice, even if it's rough. You know, one of these:

Alpha. Sleek, rounded, large, different than a command ship styling, and no disproportionately large saucer.

Reminds me of the stealthy eclipse actually.

Really hard selection to be honest as each has something going both for and against it, but fun selecting nonetheless.

Thanks for the vote design selection event! Hope to see more of these in the future, especially for Rom & KDF.

Beta seems to be killing it on the Facebook page so maybe my pessimism is misplaced?

Every time someone calls Alpha sleek, I feel the need to break something. Alpha's a greebly mess. What's with that split saucer? Why are its nacelles different sizes? Why is that top set so far back on the ship? God, it's a graceless ugly little brick. You people wouldn't know sleek if an SR-71 rolled over you very slowly.
