Worthless game thanks to lack of vision and lack of brain functionality!!!
WEll You obviously dont play many mmorpg's as both Runescape 3 and osrs followed by wow and csgo all have brute force attacks several times a year, but people rage for an hr then just accept that the company is doing everything they can to get the game back up and running, and if your think that STo is just another cop out by cryptic then why play there games. i see no contract in the agreement when u install which insist that you must play... so i think your just very salty that the server is down.
All of the DNS records for crypticstudios.com domain are missing/empty. There is no DNS record for patchserver.crypticstudios.com, so your game client can't find it. IF you know what the IP address was, I can tell you how to bypass it with an entry in the HOSTS file of your OS.
Not a ddos, its a network\DNS problem...
If we add the record to file host
208.95.185.41 patchserver.crypticstudios.com
This will prevent resolving name from DNS servers, patcher starts, but then unable to auth error, they did something with network configuration, etc, we are sure that it will improve server stablity, so, we can see the result )

I am still unable to log in to the game. So I did what you said in your post trendy and below are my results. This is 8:11 pm PDT., by the way and still no joy.
here is my information:
public ip address: 2607:fb90:285b:d09e:602e:5fae:86d0:4e5
tracert results:
unable to resolve target system name patchserver.crypticstudios.com
even went so far as ping patchserver.crypticstudios.com and this is what I got:
ping request could not find host patchserver.crypticstudios.com. Please check
the name and try again.
Did a DNS lookup on patchserver.crypticstudios.com and got this result:
Lookup failed: patchserver.crypticstudios.com Try again
No host name is associated with this IP address or no reverse lookup is configured.
Retrieving DNS records for patchserver.crypticstudios.com...
Attempt to get a DNS server for patchserver.crypticstudios.com failed: Timed out
So from this it is not a DDoS attack whatsoever. There is no DNS record for the patchserver
at all. This has nothing to do with an attack by whoever or whatever bot some script kiddie
wants to use. This is a server side error on the part of either cryptic or whoever hosts your
servers. With no DNS record that could be found on the name or the ip address associated
with the name. And you can do a whois on patchserver.crypticstudios.com and find the ip
address that is associated with it. Still did a DNS lookup on the ip address associated and
received the same results as above.
Did a Network Lookup of patchserver.crypticstudios.com and got this result:
Lookup failed: patchserver.crypticstudios.com Try again
Whois query for patchserver.crypticstudios.com...
Results returned from whois.internic.net:Whois Server Version 2.0
Domain names in the .com and .net domains can now be registered
with many different competing registrars. Go to http://www.internic.net

No match for domain "PATCHSERVER.CRYPTICSTUDIOS.COM".

So Trendy let me ask, "Did you guys pay your hosting company or what? Because this
shows that there is no match for the domain patchserver.crypticstudios.com
Just a question only. Please leave the banhammer on the desk on this one. All I am trying to
do is provide you with more information that you requested for your engineers. Plus I'll throw in
a 20 yr old Single Malt if its up and running in 5 minutes. LOL....
Only if Scottie is working on the problem that is......

At the time of posting, this was Trendy's last tweet, a few hours ago
So, instead of banning individual players they just ban the servers? LoL
I'm kidding guys.

Right, that's a zero. NS are domain entries, there are no records in DNS for any host in crypticstudios.com
This coming from a guy who ran an ISP for 10 years.
