Look on the bright side, OP. You're getting an insight into how the real world operates. When you graduate high school, you'll have an advantage over your classmates.

I demand that nothing on the exchange can be more expensive than 50 million EC, especially not the new starship trait from the Delta Alliance doff pack that is listed for almost 400 million EC! :D

No problem, i will take all from exchange and move to the trading channels !!!

Fleet ship modules aren't worth over 10mill for me but I have the luxury of waiting for my monthly Zen to aquire them.

I have to say I feel sorry for new players, everything so expensive these days.

I completely agree with the last part. It's been much, much easier for new guys in the past. Academy clickies, dilithium-zen conversion at a rate of ~80, "shoot the battleship" vendor runs for EC, Dulmur/Plasmonic Leech/Lockbox Keys for ~500-600k EC, reputation gear for free, far better possibilities to earn cash through doffing, free doff-upgrinder, leveling through mirror events, easier elite content, etc...

If I were to start fresh today, I'd have to invest 10 times as much ingame time to get my account to it's current status.

Yeah, but that has been the trend overall with the game... it's not that much of a surprise that the EC and dil economy reflects this as well. Remember, we have to grind MUCH longer for the level cap (and access to many end game missions and their associated goodies), then have over-level grinding of Spec Points, both of which take far longer than the old 1->50 +Rep setup. That means each player gathers more EC's, dilithium, item drops, and mission rewards along the way; so more resources to buy things with, more chances to get lucky and get good items, etc... means higher prices for the really good stuff.

Seriously, though, the first and second things you should get as a Silver player are:
    • EC Cap increase (so you can get nice things via grinding, the whole point of staying Silver)
    • One set of Shared Bank slots (which let you share/store EC's across characters, pass BtA gear and Sponsorship Tokens, etc.)

Well everyone has explained to the OP how to obtain these modules, why they are sold for what they are how markets work and we are left going round in circles so...

Since its nerf season on these forums and not a public holiday or happy nerf card in sight, i shall say "NERF THE EXCHANGE NERF IT HARD AND THEM SOME" :).

happy nerf season to all and to all a happy nerf

How come this sort of thread never makes it onto the F.C.T. List? It ought to. These pop up more frequently than the
    "I wanna T6 Connie!" thread.

The Exchange is what the Exchange is. Buy yourself the Cap Increase and be done with it. Price fixing the Exchange is the very fastest way I know to make sure ALL items, even the worthless ones, will be sold at the cap limit. It also insures I will only sell FSMs through private channels.

Either I spent a lot of time grinding for FSMs or I spent RL currency on purchasing them. You most definitely do not get to tell me what I can and cannot do with my own time and money, OP.

To acquire those FSMs, I did nothing at all any other player of STO cannot do. If you want an FSM so badly you are willing to throw a public hissy fit over how mean the other STO players are being to you, then get up off your lazy butt and go earn them.

It is called 'reward for effort'. A quaint concept which is obviously in short supply in the 21st Century.

Up until a few months or so, the prices of fleet ship modules regularly varied just under 10 mil EC but never more than that. Than for some reason people just decided they want to make more money out of them and the prices jumped over the 10 mil cap which all silver members have. Now, I understand we can increase the cap, but that would require either using real money or endlessly grinding dilithium so we can convert it to Zen. Apparently, people are still buying them for the available price, but is it really worth it? Sellers might make 2 or 3 million more per a module, but it narrows down the amount of their customers, which makes it harder to sell. At this moment, the lowest price of modules is 11.990.000 EC. If you got it down to 9.999.000, that would be just 2 million less, which is not that much money, and everyone could buy them. People please.

Lesson one in economics, supply and demand. If more people are willing to pay a higher price for a product or service, then the price of said product or service will rise. if more people decide that the price for said product or service is too high and don't buy it, then prices will come down. If people can sell something for a higher price to make more EC they're going to do so and it's foolish to think otherwise. If a person can't make as much EC on item 1 as they could item 2, then they're not going to sell as many of item 1. That's just simple economics. Why would I choose to only make $1m when I could make $5m or so on.

To show you some math behind this. lets assume that modules stay at a current rate of 12m per module. now lets suppose he sells 10 modules. that's 120m ec that he could make. now lets suppose he drops the price to 10m ec. may not seem like that huge of a drop right? now if he sells another 10 modules that's 100m ec. That's a 20m ec loss over the price from before. The big thing you don't understand is that every dollar in a business, be it a virtual business or real life business, adds up quickly. You may not see it as that big of a deal but in the long run it will add up. Just by dropping the price as much as our hypothetical seller did, he lost 20m ec.

I ran as a silver player for about a year before I finally decided to become a gold player. It's not that difficult to grind out the dilithium you need to convert to zen for something. You just need to bite the bullet, sit down and do it. If you wanted to do so, as a silver player or even a gold player for that matter, you can sit down and farm the dilithium you need for anything in game. STO is the only true f2p game out there. I myself have at least 30 different cstore ships that I've purchased in my STO career. of those ships at least 20 of them were while I was a silver player. now most of those were with RL cash. if I had wanted to do so I could've paid for those ships by grinding out the dilithium to do so. it would've taken awhile yes, BUT it could be done. Thus is my point.

You're not owed a price drop in something just because you think it's overpriced. now there are several things in this game I believe are way overpriced, BUT, I don't have to buy them. I can aquire them without the exchange if I want to do so. Furthermore, begging on the forums for a price reduction shows laziness on your part.

It is player driven economy what so do you expect. Stop crying and buy the cap extension. It is the first thing you should spend ZEN on anyway...

In one respect I agree with the OP about the prices on the exchange. Is that correctable? Yes, get the EC cap increase and grind out the EC. If someone does not want to get the increase then they are also free to complain about the how high the prices are. What it comes down to is if you do not want to work at it then you do not deserve it.

There are several items on the exchange that I would like to purchase but I refuse to pay up to 500 times the items cost for them. As several posters have mentioned EC is very easy to get which is, IMHO, starting a runaway inflation situation in game.

Things are expensive because the key market has been manipulated now for over a month. It's being held up in the 3.8 range. Soon as people post lower singles, which is what most occasional sellers do, they get bought up repackaged into a 10 pack at the set price wanted. Those 10 packs get bought up thus guaranteeing a profit and allowing this to go near endlessly. To break it you'd need to post thousands and thousands of keys over a several weeks to end the cash flow and the cycle. And of course with the high key prices everything of real value has slid up with it as most of those items come from lockboxes which are now much more expensive to open.
