Only "regret" (more of a foolish purchase) was getting the T-3 Excelsior. Not that it was bad
at the time, but I got it in the "noob" rush for one of my favorite ships, before realizing with
the Leveling system I would also be buying the T-5 as well. :o

So for my main ship, it has been T-3, T-5, T-5U, and finally fT-5U.

Oh well, at least I still get use out of the T-3's console. I mount it on every build except my
    Freighter. :D

I tend to buy ships for their "looks" first, and abilities second. If this fomula adds up... Sold.

    BCW.

My 'stupid purchase' was right when I got to level 50 as a new player. I was flying the Free Assault Cruiser (Sovereign) and I ran out bought 4 fleet modules so I could get the fleet variant.

I didn't realize that for $5 more, I could have bought the C-Store Variant and 1 Fleet Module and got the Regent Skin, Torpedo and Gas Canisters. I probably would have only used the Skin, but still.. I didn't even realize that the C-Store variant brought the Module cost down to 1.

Oh well, I didn't read well enough and I paid for it. Lesson learned. :D

    Interesting QQ thread . :)

After reading several pages , I've come to realize that while I did not have "purchases that I regret" as such , as there were bad purchases , but I hold myself accountable to them , so I have no regrets .
(... looking at you Mogh (total loss) , and I could not make the Steamrunner work for me until I had all Fleet stuff on it ... , which was kinda a regret for a while ...)

What I do have a lot of ... , is regrets of opening Lockbox ships on the (as it turns out) wrong characters .

On that account , I have 1 Galor (had to be re-purchased) .
1 Bug ship (had to be repurchased just for the sake of experimentation on a Rom toon / KDF equipment) .
    1 D'Kora -- still pissed about that one , and I'm EC broke , so a re-purchase is unlikely .

... as for making your purchases "work" , I've not touched the Galaxy-X for 3.5 years , and now I'm dorking around with it to see what I can do ...

When I first thought about responding to this thread my initial reaction was to say I regret the majority of my purchases, but that's not really accurate. I don't regret purchasing ships, but I.do regret purchasing the fleet versions of many ships. I now have a bunch of fleet ships collecting dust because I don't have the will or desire to upgrade them to all to t5u. Particularly since cryptic has kind of screwed players over, like in the case of the t6 intrepid.

A "try before you buy" would be better, there's a TRIBBLE of a game called APB reloaded that I think allows you to try some weapons for an hour before buying, they also allow you to hire weapons for a time......

I think an hours test flight on holodeck would be enough to see if you think that ship is worth keeping.

    THE DELTA PACK.

didnt know when i bought it the game was, in a single patch, going to square or cube the grind and pay wall to 'finish a character', wile at the same time turning every item with a mk value into vender trash, and make every single ship i own woefully outdated compared to the new standard. the person behind this quantom leap of suffering, i wouldn't even trust to sharpen a pencil.

basically regret every lock box ship too. got my kdf a monbosh, but it was quickly outclassed by the mogh. got my fed a hunter escort, only to have it outclassed soon after by the patrol refit. got my other kdf a zindi escort, only to have it outclassed by tier 6 raptor in the delta pack. wish i could take all of those back too

Try before you buy would be ideal.
Planetside 2 also does it but then again we've already established how cutthroat the paying aspect of this game is.

I've figured out the moral of this thread, never buy for power. Your always gonna end up disappointed.

and as a bonus moral never buy leveling ships in less you plan on a lot of alts.

I still plan to buy the command ships even though they are "bad" or at very least not as good as Intel.
Simply because I like the idea and it fits my kdf character. Though I haven't decided if I'm getting the 9 pack or just the kdf 3 pack but ether way I'm going to enjoy it and regret nothing. I've enjoyed every ship I bought even those that suck... sometimes especially those that suck.

if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

Let's see I bought the T'varo and... That's it, only ship I ever bought from the store. Still does everything I need it to do pve/pvp. I thought about a tac oddy for the eng but excel works fine. Ok might have bought the retro excel but I think that one was free at 50 then. Can't remember. Never was big into ships. The ships I care about are available for free.

Fortunately ( or unfortunately) there isn't anything in the c-store for ground or I might have a bit of remorse, but it's like buying anything else. It won't always remain the best, nor should it. Is any ship still pve viable? Yup and that's all cryptic cared about. Pvp is an afterthought and always has been which is why I crack up at all the vitriol thrown at pvp players whenever the devs nerf some power over performing in pve.

Only 2 ships I really regret buying. First is the Armitage. I bought it but never really used it. I think I flew it for like 3 days before shelving it. Not sure why I even got it in the first place. Second is the Avenger. I just never got that ship to work for me. I've tried ever since I bought it at it's release to make it fun but I just can't seem to do it. Would take back that purchase if I could.

I like that ship too, I got it for my Romulan with the basic LoR package. I think it's the only ship he'll ever fly except for maybe the 'free' event ships just to get their traits.

    So much fun.

I'm glad your ships still work for the kiddie pool content you enjoy. My old ships no longer work for the end-game content I built them for. (whereas my cars still do)

That was my issue as well. I was going from a FACR to a Tier 6 and the Guardian didn't feel like the natural successor to my FACR. My Fed always flies the same ship, I just augment the Registry to A,B, C, etc. So where the FACR was the C the Guardian was the D and it didn't feel right.

The Presidio served as a much more fitting successor to my Assault Cruiser. The Guardian is a good ship, but if I could get that 3k Zen back I would do it in a heartbeat.

I do the same thing with one of my toons....the Oddy is my F and the guardian my G...I'm in my F more than my G
    Tos Connie is the original
    Refit is A
    Exeter is B
    Ambassador is C
    Galaxy D
    Sovereign is E

Just the Experimental Science Vessel, that thing isn't that good, its OKAY but its BOFF layout is pretty bad.

I much prefer my Voth Palisade instead.

Hmm, I hate to nitpick but there is also the small matter of an extra BOFF seat and typically a special ability linked to that hull. Not big things, not killer things. But all other things considered equal (which in the case of something like the Scimitar, they're not- yet) is an advantage.

I say this as a guy who didn't fly a single T6 until this month, one that knows T5U are still capable of the end game.

Give it time for more T6 ship designs to appear, and T5U will be the providence of what are effectively role-players (if in image only)- like my KDF K'tinga will be.

I would say the T3 Excelsior? Since I only used it a few levels. Or the Original Connie since it also wasn't used long.

On the bright side. I did get some fun use out of them when I could use them. Just wanted it to last longer.

angry boy, first of all T5-U is not the same as T5, and second I'm not upgrading ~20 T5 ships to T5-U so I can stare at empty PVP queues. Go back to dominating the borg with your T5-U lockbox nobody cares

I use my Connies (original and refit) on Alts (and sometimes my main) where I do nothing but Doffing, to show the flag as it were.

So I still get use out of them.

I have two big remorses. The much mentioned Galaxy bundle, which has only seen a couple hours of play time, and the LoR full package. Some great ships in there, but once the Scimiatar pack came out and I got that, the ONLY Romulan captain I have moved to a Scimitar. Lately he has only been pulled out of dock in a T5 T'Varo fit as a torpedo boat, and not the Scimitar. On Fed side, I only regret buying the Vesta because of the Pathfinder release. I was not impressed with the Intel Science Ship (any of them to be more precise). I love the Pathfinder.

On the KDF side, I have only bought a few ships, almost all low to mid level range. Usually for the console or the quad disruptor cannons. I did pick up the Q'ib and while initially turned off by it, I have had time to look at builds used by others, and have adapted one KDF captain to it. So far it's performing much better than it did for me at release. I had considered getting the T6 battlecruiser, but I have decided to wait and see how the T6 Neggy turns out.

I've bought a few ships over the years, one or two with fleet ship modules (Tor'Kaht, Patrol escort), others from the store. Can't say I really regret any of them- Avenger I loved until Tier-6. If only the upgrade gave another tac console instead of eng! Exactly the same with the Assault cruiser, though in the latter's case I was able to make use of the wide-angle qtorp launcher so in that respect it was still worth getting.

Scimitar pack- no regrets there. Scimitar was a pain in the TRIBBLE to set up but well worth the effort in the end. Andorian pack- no regrets there either and the most recent pack I bought; I actually found the Charal to be the best bet since the T5-U version gained the 5th tac slot while still retaining its eng capabilities. And for the KDF I bought the Mat'ha as it's one of the few KDF ships that boast 5 tac consoles and 5 fwd weapons, none of which I regret.

Thanks to these forums I was able to avoid some potential pitfalls like the Bortas or the Haakona. What I do find curious is that despite their obvious shortcomings I still see occasional players flying the Gal-X dreadnought- I cannot help but wonder if they know something I don't.

I think they just like the ship. I don't share their feelings (as I said, it's dog IMO), but nothing wrong with that.

Assault Cruiser Refit "Reagent Class". Not because it was a bad ship, I still use the 180 degree quantum torpedo on my current ship. But because the Ambassador Refit was released a few months later with similar stats.

That's a bit unreasonable, do you regret owning that old computer or car you replaced a few years (or sooner) down the line?

No, you made use of it at the time and year's worth of play is a year's worth of play. So if you enjoyed it, I wouldn't be that bitter about it.

On the other hand, if you didn't like playing those ships for a year, or if it was only a month or two... yeah. It's more justifiable then IMO.

Well, unlike an old computer or, a car for which both can either be sold [at a loss most likely but, still of some value] or, traded for something of actual RL $ value.

The ships are computer leased toys, for which can never be used for anything, other than what the game allows and, aren't really worth any RL $ value other than those who wished to lease them, with their 1 time purchase in game.

Really not even comparable between the 2.

Yeah, I love that ship. Thought about the Intel warbird but the aesthetic isn't there. The t'varo has a sci filook to it just like the d'd unlike the other various bird shapes made for no reason.

Cars can be sold for some amount, often insignificant compared to the price of a new one. And computers... donated perhaps. I don't know anyone else who would take them.

    These ships...

Peoples should ask Cryptic for some sort of trade-in event or method. But one seemed to think the idea worth even a comment when I brought it up. So it appears your thought here doesn't matter to the readers of this thread.

So even if it was my idea, I dismiss your comment :)

At this point, think i own about 80% ish of all ships released, but thats not going to continue as the currant release rate of the ships is just waaay to rapid now.

Of all of them, not many regrets as even the ones i dont use, usually have costume parts for ships i do, so, in some way, still usefull.

However ONE pack screams out to me, and thats the Andorian escort 3-pack. Although fun, waaay too glass cannon and im fearfull to even upgrade one now as i dont think it'll scale well to T5-u.

So in effect, scrubbed the pack :(

Love my Regent, using it in level 60 content... not even once has let me down!, of course is T5U, no problem so far, its on my main char!, hope there is a newer version just for the looks! :D

Its not about the size! (of the ship), is how you use it! :P

    Captains,

A quick reminder that this thread is about personal regrets.

As it is a waste of time to try to argue someone out of a personal regret, not to mention possibly turning into a heated argument, please don't try. Just share your own opinions about your own ships and perhaps leave it at that.

What one person didn't like/couldn't make work for them, someone else might love. And vice versa. It's all cool. People fly what they like and have their own wish lists for what they'd like to have.

I love my Vesta on my Fed main and as soon as I have a full set of T6 Mastery traits, I expect I'll go back to it on at least some of my characters. I used two of my T5U upgrade tokens on that. As an alternate ship, I'll probably fly my Pathfinder. But I don't expect everybody to agree with me.

On my KDF main, I got a B'rel retrofit as a Vet ship. I want to love that thing, still do and so far refuse to decommission her. But like someone else in this thread said, I could never get it to work really well as a torpedo boat. When I have a full set of T6 Mastery traits, I'll find a new favorite ship to fly and stick to it. Might be the qib, but I had a lot of fun in my Mat'ha too.

For my Rom main, I got the T'varo retrofit. I want to love that one, too -- It's a classic... but I know I'm going to end up flying my Faeht Intel Warbird in the end unless they come out with a Pilot-spec Warbird that totally rocks, looks awesome, and fits my character better. Should I have saved my money on that T'varo? Probably. Should I just stick to the ships I've got and save even more?

    Nah. :D
