I'll get my ULC8 finished one day...... one day.

I know the feeling - my ULC9.3 Entry is stalled out for now as I work on details.

It WILL get done, though - just not sure when. :(

@ambassadormolari - that was very, very good. All of your characters really popped in this one.

I think a 'teaching' story suggestion/prompt may make sense with this whole Recruitment drive about to start. Captain either doing a course at the Academy, or even a seminar or a bridge officer 'graduating' to their own captaincy.

I posted a prompt for that a couple days ago, actually:

Something partly inspired by Ael t'Kazanak turning up to teach a course in Academy Daze:

    "Teaching the Next Generation"

You've been rotated off the front lines to spend a tour back home as an instructor at your service academy, or perhaps to give a guest lecture at the Academy or at a civilian university that hosts an ROTC battalion or two.

What's your subject matter? How does the next class of cadets, mangHompu', or eredhin react to being taught by an officer with your service record? How do you respond to their questions? Is there something nefarious going on at Starfleet Academy, Klingon Academy, or the newly opened Phi'lasasam on New Romulus?
Since some people really don't like Voyager's "Scorpion", I'd certainly read their version of how it should have happened.
Without going into spoilers, Worffan and I will definitely be doing "Scorpion" in Neelix's Lungs. One hint: in our timeline, the Betazoid conn officer Veronica Stadi survived the Caretaker mishap.

    Ooh....spoilers.

But I think that Gul Evek will have zero problems with, ah, unusual alliances to combat the ultimate implacable threat, and Stadi...well, Stadi has a temper. And Stadi is a telepath (full Betazoids, like Lwaxana Troi, were established to be full telepaths in TNG). And Commander Tuvok is not stupid.

    Yeah. It's gonna go down...differently. :D

I'm stuck on ULC 4 and ULC9. I hate to skip them entirely. Ideas brew but nothing on paper :(

@antonine - I really enjoyed your piece. The relaxed atmosphere and joy the character shared concerning the rebirth of Mol'Rihan was particularly enjoying to me. So was it him or not?!

I'm amazed I've gotten something up for as many challenges as I have, personally.

This one was a bit of an experiment because I was trying to up my ability to 1) do something approaching romance, and 2) have some conscious efforts to have the voice change up a bit when the narration comes from Veril's perspective, briefly. And I've been wondering what sort of culture are Obisek and D'tan building while the captains are busy clearing the Delta Quadrant, so this seemed a good opportunity to check in, even if the two hadn't quite stayed on top of the latest trends.

As for the 'old flame'. I think it was him, or possibly even what's left of him. I don't think he's what An'riel remembers, though. It was a long time ago and in school, and never got the chance to burn itself out.

An'riel spent what effort she had trying to stay away from the power centers and the repeated chaos of civil wars and just live, or at least survive until inspired to try and build something with the second colony attempt at Virinat.

I feel like Ra'tar was more of a loyalist, and burned outwardly and inwardly by an (understandable) devotion to a state that had lasted centuries, joining the Republic when there was no other choice. The stress could have aged, or poorly treated wounds. An'riel's had access to better health care than most Imperial survivors, and has really only considered the effects of that intellectually.

I feel like later, privately, she'll check more on to confirm it was him and extend an offer of greeting, but it probably won't go much beyond that. She had the luxury of living quietly to mourn what her life would be like, thinking fondly on schoolgirl days, holding on to the flame of it, but there probably wasn't much there.

Ra'tar's had to fight more for his life, had more to lose which was then lost, and didn't walk away from the old social structures, and has less emphasis on a fliration from decades ago, and certainly, with that Byronic aspect to Romulan character, has had more affairs and desperate loves than An'riel had, so a shallow one hasn't really been retained, and it's hard to fit mentally the idea of someone from decades ago you knew in school with one of the Republic's heroes.

Unfortunately, I don't know if they'll be able to try well enough to work it out. An'riel's kind of paranoid, and she's busy on the other side of the galaxy. She still likes the idea of love, but she's having trouble finding time to put into practice.

Thank you for explaining that. Coupled with what was presented, the bigger picture is more revealing.

    @ambassadormolari - Dagnabit, that was action-packed! What a great read :)

@ambassadormolari - d*mn good stuff, that was an excellent read. Nice action and a good amount of tragedy, well portrayed throughout.

Still working my way back through the rest, but just wanted to say thank you to everyone on here. Your writing has generally been excellent, and reading through the previous LC and ULC's has been a welcome break from all the cramming for exams and other bits and pieces I've been stuck doing over the last few weeks. Might have something in the works for ULC 9 (the Old Flame story) myself, (96 Days pt 4 might qualify), but since I'm still working on pt 3 it might have to wait 'till a redux.
