that kinda looks like a marine CMC power suit from starcraft, only a bit less clunky...i seriously hope they make a player-obtainable version of that

Considering how things usually work with Cryptic, it will probably show up in the Lobi store at somepoint.

The Heralds seem to have facial features similar to the dark figure that showed up at the end of Surface Tension. Either the Heralds are also Iconians but just called something different (maybe it's a different caste or something?) or we haven't actually seen a true Iconian yet.

I think Heralds are what Dewans evolved into. That gate under New Romulus was close to a million years old, or somesuch. So whatever Dewans managed to survive long enough to find a new home, no telling what that million years will do. The species very well could have evolved into something much larger, and stronger. And with the help of the Iconians themselves, they might have evolved into a species the Iconians would see as worth using.

    200,000 isn't it?

Byt yeah.. They've got 6 eyes... my first guess was they genetically engineered beasts similar to the Daleks.

Actually, the theory I've heard, and that I personally subscribe to, is that the Dewans were transformed into the Elachi by the Iconians. The Elachi have a similar physical structure to the holographic shape of the Dewan we saw under New Romulus (except larger; but again, evolution and genetic engineering), and that may also explain why the Elachi kinda seemed to have an obsession with the Romulans and Mol'rihan. Maybe as a part of the Iconian's deal with the Tal'Shiar, the Elachi were going to get their original homeworld back.

As for the Heralds, again, either they are a different caste of Iconians or they are one of the original servitor races.

Will be interesting to see what blogs come out about the herald, im really interested in seeing what the design ethos was when creating them.
I love how they look so evil, like their intimidating look is part of their arsenal ( and of course iconian powers/tech ).

It's possible the Iconians created "The Herald" based off their own genetics, so they wouldn't find themselves defenseless in case their other servitors end up turning against them. Maybe that's what happened last time 200,000 years ago, with their army and guards turned against them. The other possibility is that they're related to either one of the other two species who had similar languages to ancient Iconian: Dinasian and Iccobar. In this way perhaps the Iconians and The Herald are like Vulcans and Romulans, if so maybe they should call them Iccobarians, a cross between Iconian and barbarian! :D

That is a good theory. But what still makes me wonder is the simple fact that Heralds do have 6 eyes, just as does nearly everything else living on New Romulus. Those 6 eyes make me think New Romulus had something to do with it, or THEY had something to do with New Romulus.

The multiple eyes thing might just be a design choice, to make both the Heralds and the creatures on New Romulus seem more alien.

That said, the Iconians were on Tau Dewa long ago (hence their interaction with the Dewans), and given their apparent propensity for genetic engineering, it's not too much of a stretch that they might have experimented on more than just the Dewans while they were there.

Maybe it's even a "Prometheus" kind of thing, where Iconian DNA got into the ecosystem somehow and overwrote the natural biology of the planet. :P

Heh, so a sort of combination of the two theories: they are technically a different race, being genetically created, but are based off of Iconian DNA. It's like the Dominion with the Jem'hadar, only a bit more narcissistic. :D

And I think you're assuming that the Cryptic writers even remembered the Dinasians and Iccobars. Heck, even I forgot that they were mentioned in relation to the Iconians....

don't try to make mountains out of molehills...the simple reason for everything on new romulus having 6 eyes is because the planet was heavily irradiated until very recently

Yay, I've been looking for a thread like this. I love taking artistic screenshots in STO to chronicle the voyages of the U.S.S. Deucalion Alpha. These are just a few of the ones I've posted on my fleet's website:

I tend not to use the renderscale 2 trick because it lags the hell out of my machine and makes it near-impossible to capture precise moments.

Sometimes after finishing a mission or patrol, I'll spend half an hour or more flying around looking for the right angle with the right lighting and framing, taking dozens of shots in order to get one I like. If you ever see a Sovvy refit with red markings flying around like an idiot or backing into things in a system, that's probably me looking for a shot. XD

Here is a very amateurish tutorial from me how to upload images to Imgur and how you can post them to the STO forum. Certainly there are better instructions out there on how to do that, but this is the way I do it.
