The race for revenue with new content is certainly understandable, but the implementation of a new, better Jem'Hadar Attack ship may be the move that drives me away from Star Trek On-line.
While the existing 'Bug' has been a sought after reward, whether by luck with boxes or very hard work, for me, it was the latter. I worked and saved to buy my bug a bit over a year ago for 480 million EC. While I've no objections to Cryptic making it available periodically, the implementation of a T6 version, making my version an obsolete remnant of the old Star Trek online, might as well be in invitation for me to retire from the game with that ship.
At a minimum, my T5-U version should have an upgrade path to the new T6 ship. To do anything less is to rob players of the prestige most worked - and paid for - to obtain.
I do not have this ship and have wanted for it for some time. I do feel for current owners of the attack ship now there is a new bug in town.
At least if the attack ship is still needed for the Jem Dread pets they will still have some gloss to them, that's the only reason I want one anyway.
However (and being ignorant of the info on this) if the strike ship allows you access to the pets I can totally feel the anguish of those who have worked so hard for it even more so.
"If this will be our end, then I will have them make SUCH an end as to be worthy of rememberance! Out of torpedos you say?! Find me the ferengi!".

Whiles droves of peeps no doubt will come in, telling you that upping everything is how MMO's work, and you're entitled to nothing, and read the EULA, and yada, yada, yada... you do have a point.
Bug ship, like Bulwark, was a prestige-ship, only available periodically. It's essentually the equivalent of EvE's 'monocle' (for those who remember). And it got auto-upscaled to T5-U (not exactly to T6, like they had promised, btw) when T6 arrived. Likewise, upon a new and improved bug ship, the old one ought to be auto-scaled with it.
At no point in the history of STO were we able to take a low tiered ship and UPGRADE it to a higher tier. Then or now. And longtime players in STO are surprised by this? Really?
I sure would have like to have taken a few of those lower tiered ships into later tiered status but the responses around here were to "Eat it" and get over it.
Well, I now say to you all: "Eat it."
"Eat it," and get a new ship like everyone else has to. You got your pretty little pony before. Fine. You're not entitled to even more benefits after that.
Too bad, so sad.
Edit: To all the sobbing JHAS guys, I'm sure the T5U Intrepid players are amused by your anger and feelings of being solely picked on.
I would love to use a Jem'Hadar ship. But they are either too costly in EC, or lobi wise. Unless I do the buy boxes and hope one pops up. Just right now they are not in my reach. Hopefully in the future I can get one.

Erm. Also at no point were lower tiered ships EVER considered endgame, take SO much effort/resource to acquire nor be promised not to become obsolete when DR came out. So take your comparison and stick it where the sun doesn't shine...
More stupid words spoken by someone who doesn't have a f#*king clue...
Enjoy playing on the server all by yourself when all the players who are sick and tired of being treated like disposable tissues leave and spend their money elsewhere. If you believe all the "healthy and growing" bulls hit the devs tell you then you are as stupid as your post suggests.
Prestige? you mean like getting the Mk XII Omega Armor, the Maco Armor and the Klingon Hounor Guard Armor, Pre Reputation of course where the loot dropped determined if you were able to get anything at all.
Then the Reputation was released and all that work became worthless. In those days it actually meant something to have any of those armors. Now they mean nothing.
The JHAS got a free upgrade to T5U. Most people have to buy a upgrade token. If you want a T6 JHAS Buy the Strike ship according to the blog it can wield the JHAS costume.
Me I want a T6, Assault Cruiser, and a T6 Defiant. Both of which I wont get.
Oh and by the way I dont see people who own the JHAS as being in a prestige group. Quite the opposite actually.....
I recall very little support to the Intrepid crowd when Cryptic pulled the Pathfinder trick. So I am not inclined to give support to the JHAS crowd now. A big difference? Your T5U upgrade was free. The Intrepid wasn't. People upgraded it, to see even the upgrade become obsolete in what? A month?
Besides, the JHAS has lost its prestigious position long ago. Not even the JHSS is going to be that good. The Faeth outperforms her. The Scimitar outperforms her. Heck, I would not be surprised to see the ship everybody will actually believe will outperform the JHSS would come in a few months.
You once paid for a ship. You flew that ship. Nobody is going to stop you from flying it now. It will not loose anything. It just won't be the best bugship, but honestly, where do you need the best ship? PvP? Because PvP is soo thriving atm.
Nobody in this game, except for people who want to see the ship upon their viewscreen because of the looks, needs this ship. Absolutely nobody. It isn't the best in PvE. It isn't the best in PvP. It isn't the best ship of comparable stats. And its gonna be obsolete as soon as the next specialization rolls out with even more powerful abilites to which this ship will never have access.
Huh, surprised it took them so long to add a huge, 'holy grail' cash sink ship. I was sort of hoping the Tier-6 cash sink ship would have been something different, but I can't really think of anything better than a JHAS parallel, and I guess there is something to be said for continuity.
Well good, it'll keep the price of dilithium down at least.
the reason why people are pissed is because of the prestige that came with the ship, not the person getting prestige but the ship itself being prestigious.
to the JHAS owners it's like telling them the 1967 Ferarri they worked hard to get will be replaced with a 2012 kia soul. some of us spent more money and time trying to get this ship than can be explained.
and cryptic could have easily made it a T6 upgrade, the fact they said they couldn't was BS, they just didn't do it because it'd be more work, overflooding of traits, and they wouldn't sell their new line of ships. but with their Traditional Rare ship they should have made an exception.
sure the pathfinder was a dirty trick, but there wasn't that much outrage for it for the fact it was a cheap one off. those who were shortsighted enough to get a T5-U intrepid just didn't put two and two together when DR was released and the Devs constantly teasing a new T6 ship.
but this is the ship that many spent far more time and resources obtaining, this is a ship that should have moved with the times and been upgraded to fit the power flow. I know for a fact that those who have the JHAS now won't be getting the JHSS, so with that in mind why not let the JHAS upgrade with the times.
with that Console Universal Dominion Defense Screen, now an escort can tank like an engineering ship? Literally sit their and take a beating until their shields are healed then they can unload their weapons on a target.
wow:rolleyes:
so what's the point of having different ship classes when all the ships can do what the other class can?
One day Cryptic will be free from their Perfect World overlord. Until that day comes, they will continue to pamper the whales of this game, and ignore everyone that isn't a whale.
Cryptic doesn't care about past purchases, only the next purchase
That's why
Sad but true (just look at my sig), once a ship is released to the public, they could care less about it. it's on to the next cash cow and this time they must be very desperate for money if they pulled this stunt.

Restricted to Dominion ships.
Additionally, you act as if this was anything new. The Aegis and Dyson shields allow for ridiculous shield tanking. The Kobali shield at UR gets ResAll to reduce 10% of all incoming energy damage. Fleet Adaptive shields also allow for tanking to a degree. The Kobali console allows for continuous healing for its duration as long as you keep firing. The Kobali core gets AMP at UR and also provides a super shield heal option.
And that's before we go into all the other major and minor bonuses from various things that grant temporary bonus hull and/or shields.

Your JHAS is not suddenly a "Kia Soul". It is still a highly capable ship which many players who have never owned one would jump at the chance to acquire.
It is not the supposed "downgrading" of the JHAS you are upset about. It is the lost of prestige to yourself. You no longer are one of those very few who own something which everyone else wants and cannot get. So you cannot get the WOW! Factor when you whip your BugShip out and go swanning about in front of the great unwashed. Your feelings are hurt because you thought your were one of Cryptic's Chosen Ones and now you have found out you are just another customer.
TBH, I never thought the JHAS was all that anyways. I have one. It is nice but it is still just another ship in an endless series of ships. Like the Fleet Excelsior. Which I also have. Another nice ship but it isn't the be-all-to-end-all either.
I like STO. A lot. But in the end it is just a game. Treating it as some sort of religion or lifestyle choice seems unhealthy to me. I went and got the Kobali Cruiser from the Anniversary Event. I like it, too. Not everyone got one nor did everyone want it. When the Z-Store version comes out, I doubt seriously I'll be in here wailing and pulling at my hair over how unfair it is Cryptic released a better version of the Samsar. Because such an act is a personal affront only when or if I allow it to become so.

You're absolutely right, I should have another reaction. It was a knee jerk reaction. As you can tell by my sig...I"m a little "sensitive" when it comes to the bug ship (only because I can't have one as a carrier pet for my JHDC).
One day Cryptic will be free from their Perfect World overlord. Until that day comes, they will continue to pamper the whales of this game, and ignore everyone that isn't a whale.
So people paid real money for a gamble ship. It says on the tin it is a gamble ship. Time passes and a new version comes out. Now people want their gamble ship upgraded for free? NO! The world doesn't work that way. Take your iPhone 6 and demand that Apple gives you the iPhone 7 that they are already making. Do it. You will be laughed out of the store by those that overheard your ridiculous demands.
The Bug getting a free upgrade to T5U status was an act of kindness on Cryptic's part. They just as easily could have not done that to get people to spend more on upgrade tokens.
Obtaining a previous product does not entitle you to the new product in anyway shape or form.
Cheers from Antonio Valerio Cortez III, Half-Celestial Archduke of the Free Marches Confederacy.

In the blog it's clearly stated free T6 capabilities, not free T5-U upgrade. That's a big difference in my understandings. Yeah, you can all yaka yaka yaka EULA and ToS says that, but I don't give a TRIBBLE. Problem with those is that they are contracts, and I have although have accepted and agreed with those, I am still waiting from Cryptic a signed copy back. Until then, the EULA and ToS has ZERO value.
OK, if I have to stay here for a while, your cieling ... looks idious.:D
From someone who owns a jhas, ill say right now I'm not upset.
Nor surprised, I could see this coming for a long time. It was inevitable.
I fully expect these to sell like crazy for cryptic. No moaning about prestige, will stop the hoards from lining up for this ship, like apple sheep, at a new iPhone launch.
Seething at the mouth to get their prize.
I thought the Sheshar wouldnt be so popular, but people proved me wrong, they lined up shamelessly for them.
This new jhss will see even more people clamour to buy one !
I can just see them now, crying, begging and screaming for 1, like 13 year old girls at a Beatles concert.
Now, imagine the prices for a jhss in ec, if a sheshar sells for 400-500 mil....
Ships become obsolete. People deal with this as it's part of the game. If they then made an exception with the JHAS by giving it an avenue to be upgraded where all others didn't, then that would be a HUGE slap in the face to every other player who had their ships made obsolete.
Personally, I'm just glad that this new ship (on paper) doesn't seem to be monstrously overpowered compared to the T5U JHAS.

This guy gets it.
The Attack Ship was bound to be replaced by a new shiny/flavor as the status symbol at some point. And now it has.
Just my opinion.
They already let you upgrade it in order for it to stay relevant, which is more than most other games give.
I got about 15 keys and I'm more hopeful for VIP tickets to save for the next Dil Bonus Event. Not holding any breath for a Bug Ship, and to be honest, other people shouldn't be gunning for it either. Just let it happen if it happens, but pop the boxes for other more likely stuff. Don't become a sucker.
I see this differently, the reason I'm very unhappy at this promotion is a pile-up of reasons that, individually and separately are not all a big deal, but combined makes it less acceptable:
-the whole "Tier-6 capabilities" ambiguity
-the fact it's a gamble ship again
-the fact that it's only available from a specific pack for a specific amount of time
-that pack isn't a lockbox, so isn't free itself, so you can't keep it safe to buy keys to open it or by allowing intervals between your purchases
-it has the same configuration as the old one (same weapon slots, same disposition of consoles, same stats)
-the Boff stations are similar except for the addition of specialized stations
-instead of 1 primary spec station, not only does it have 2 of them but also both primary specs
-it has a new console that works in tandem with its mastery trait and is part of a set of consoles the other playable Dominion ships have, except the old bugship
-it has the old bugship skin and you can swap various parts between the 2 skins, so it has a better customization
-this design comes out of nowhere and has no other appearance in the game
-the only way to get it is by being either incredibly lucky and/or incredibly rich, either IRL or in-game
-considering that if one has the old ship, they most likely were either very lucky or has sunk a lot of IRL or virtual money, if they want the ship, they have to do that a second time for what is an update
-it happens after a very controversial season that left several people with a bad taste in their mouth
-it happens just after a grindy anniversary event that started very bugged
So, when you pile up more and more TRIBBLE-ups, when you continue to release bugged content, when you add more and more grind, crafting that requires dilithium, meaning less Zen for players, and then, you bring a gamble ship that is an updated version of a very expensive gamble ship, it comes to a point where some players are getting fed up.
In the blog it's clearly stated free T6 capabilities, not free T5-U upgrade. That's a big difference in my understandings. T5-U is T6 capability. You get the ship that levels up with you (from 50-60) and the ship Mastery Track.
Please, tell us all how the T5-U Scimitar isn't T6 capable.
And, you also don't know how electronic signatures work, do you.
