Thanks for the rundown, shpoks, but- honestly, I've no interest in Command anything, especially cruisers. There's just too little variety for me in all of this, and I think the Klingon designs are godawful.
Kind of like the Dyson stuff. If you don't like the concept of one of them, you don't like the concept of any of them.
I just think if theyre going to say science or tac centric, they need to have commander science or tac officers all of the command ships have engineering commander. it's like they're trying too hard to make engineering captains a thing.

Understandable, we all have our preferences.
I might get the Romulan ones cause they really do lok beautifull to me, plus my sole Romulan chick got her last ship in the summer of 2013. I still do love my T'Varo, however with the new harder content, the need to carry groups and all that flashy glitter and over the top elements that are distracting - especially if you're in a small ship, it's becomming a full time job to keep one allive. Sometimes I want to play more relaxed and a big fat Romulan Command cruiser would probably do the job for me here. Can't think of anything in game that can bring me down in one of these fortresses.
On the other hand I already have better looking and better preforming ships Fedside and I just got a Mat'Ha (which is like my favourite ship, ever) and a Qib few months ago with the launch of DR, so I'm covered there.

It's because they're essentially cruisers, which are engineering ships. Flight deck cruisers, but cruisers nevertheless. A cruiser is always going to have an engi or engi/hybrid commander, just like an escort/raptor will always have a tac or tac/hybrid commander or a science ship a sci or sci/hybrid commander. That's the nature of the beast.
Since all of these are cruisers, just one is science slanted and the other is towards tac. - they were always going to have the commander be enginerring or in this case engi/hybrid.
Still, I'd say the tactical versions of these are strong contenders for a tactical captain to have - even without a commander tac.
And the Kamarag and Mogh, well, those two don't just look immediately Klingon, but also gorgeous in that very"I'm gonna stomp all over you and drink bloodwine from your skull" way a Klingon ship should.
The Kamarag makes me so mad, it's an awesome ship with incredible stats and gorgeous lines but completely abandoned by the devs. This is begging for a T-6 version (so is my wallet). Yes, I want a command D7 and an intel Kamarag.
Too small? How do you know, or you're just estimating based on turn-rate and such? Serious question, I'm wondering about the actual size as well - they look like they should be big, but then again it migh be an optical illisuon like I had with the Avenger.
estimating based on crew size. So how big are they really? I think I can live with a Klinzhai/Ty'Gokor mashup, but if they can't be built out to be at least a kilometer long, that's a deal-breaker for me.

The Marauder was THE butt ugly ship of its day. With no alternate skins or even paint patterns or kit bashing possible you're stuck with it as it was. It was mocked by all, dubbed "the pig" or the "flying potato".
I still flew it and in time even grew to love the looks of it. It was an acquired taste.
These new ships at least have customisation options possible and while not great looking aren't as bad as the Marauder back in the day.
I've found I tend to fly certain ships for the play style they offer, not necessarily for their looks, although that does help.
These ships are essentially the Marauder, Fleet Corsair and Dacoit T6 replacements play style wise, and for that I will be using them quite a bit going forward, despite the looks.
Anyone else think its too bad the new ships are too Klingon, and not an Orion design instead.
Yes. Massively missed opportunity. Puts into doubt any possible future of T6 KDF subspecies specific designs.
Orions made, had and were the only FDCs in the game. I dont mind at all that FDCs are given to everyone now, Cryptic have been harvesting KDF for Fed and Rom ship ideas for too long now for me to get upset about that anymore. But the fact that they somehow completely ignored the fact that Orions made them for KDF, and indeed the only FDCs in game for the longest of times, is a huge let down.
I so want that NPC Orion Dread ship design to become a playable reality though (looks like a suped up Corsair).
So I guess don't now get your hopes up for a Gorn Science ship any decade soon.
My only issue with the klingon command ships is the loss of the weapons efficiency com array, on a beam boat that is a pretty major downgrade. The plasmonic leach console mitigates this somewhat but not enough unfortunately, which means a higher level of EPW will probably be necessary.

Like warmaker001b said and provided a pic, if size is what you're after - I think you'll be satisfied. They're aproximately the size of a Bortasqu' - probably only a little bit smaller, but it's negligible. They're still pretty huge ships. Just beam in Qo'noS orbit or near Qo'noS system in Omega Leonis and soon enough you'll see some and be able to compare the sizes for yourself.
While there are still some design elements I don't like(they still look too blocky/like cardassian ships), I've managed to find some combinations I don't mind. Hard to admit, but I do think I got a bit too carried away with an initial knee-jerk reaction. They clearly take some elements from the Vo'quv, which does make sense being flight-deck ships. I do think they should have been a bit larger though - so people can see/recognize them from further out and rally around them(the Klinzhai is roughly Sovereign-sized).
Performance-wise, I really don't have any complaints. They're a little more defensive in nature, but they are no slouches. Suppression Barrage and the Defense/Tachyon platforms compensate for the lack of an Attack Comm while also crippling the opponents for everyone.

Use the "Bounty hunters friend" console, reduces weapons drain for you. Or a doffed DEM ability.
FDCs never had the weapons efficiency com array option. These never lost it because they're never going to have it. These have lineage with the KDF Orion FDCs, not the Avenger/Mogh with a hanger slapped on. So we have the com array options as such to fit.
How's the Tac ship trait in practice, particularly in combination with Tactical Initiative Tac capt ability?
From the stats I've seen, it's 5% capt cooldown reduction every 5 seconds, potentially. Tactical Initiative is 45 seconds run time with 3 Min cooldown. ~81 seconds of reduction during that 45 seconds up time for a total of 126 seconds off the 180 sec TI timer, so a 54 sec gap with no TI. Not quite the level of reduction I was hoping for. I'm not even sure how tospam Tac abilties every 5 seconds, as usually I activate stacked buffs all in quick succession (I.E. TT, APB, FAW/CSV) and then up not pressing more until their at least global cooldowns are done (~15 seconds for most).
as well. One of the best KDF ships and it doesn't even have a fleet version. If they don't want to make a new skin, at least give it a 10th console slot and be done with it...just like they did with the Scimitar. I guess KDF isn't allowed to have any competitive ships though...people might actually play KDF if they had any of those.

After flying it some yesterday, there's also one of the command abilities that gives like +33% to all damage as well as -100% weapons drain for 15 seconds. I think I've got that right.
Essentially gives you an even more powerful version of what you're wanting anyway It just isn't always on. Has to be used tactically instead.
I broke down and bought the Tac version. I named it Oog'lee in honor of how it looks. There's very little customization without buying the other two.
The All Hands on Deck trait is an interesting one, while no Reciprocity for sure, being able to spam Tactical Fleet is handy on upper-low to mid damage groups in STFs, on top of the self damage boosts of APA and TI being on shorter cooldown is pretty nice. Also, it can make you tankier, with Hazard Emitters and Sci Team being dropped down. Takes some getting used to on the timing on waiting for the little blue buff icon to disappear, but having a Torp ability you can hit out of time with buffs without loosing much helps a lot, as does having Command Abilities, as the only one I usually add to the buff stack is Suppression Barrage.
I still need to take out the Trait with my Kar'fi or Xindi-Aquatic Carrier w/Uni set to Sci and see how it does, could be quite fun.
lol there are some mixes of the different hulls that surprisingly look decent, ty'gokor with klinzai bow and wings kinda reminds me of a cross between a bortasqu and the negh'var.

If only we could have both, eh? By design (intended or otherwise) they synergize ridiculously well... it's almost tempting to buy the Phantom and the 9-pack just for my Fed alts. They're alts, though, and I'm still waiting to see if Reciprocity shows up in a lock box or on a KDF ship.
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.

They're as big as an Odyssey with a bit more bulk. It all depends on the parts you choose.
I still flew it and in time even grew to love the looks of it. It was an acquired taste.

That would be because they gave it away for free recently in a promotion.
Prior to that, I basically never saw it post season 5-6.

They're the new KDF T6 garbage trucks!
Too ugly, not buying it.
