I loaded up my Wells to the teeth with Defense skills.
... but it was useless, since 80% of the time, I was disabled (gg Viral Torp). Plus all the heals in the world don't matter when you go from full hull and shields to dead in the blink of an eye because of constant BO Crits and Neutronic Spreads.
I get that Neutronic is getting fixed, but there's still way more work to be done. Until that time, I'll be running an occassional STF or two.
Thanks to horrid short sightedness and money grabbing, what was once (and still has the potential to) be the gold standard for Space MMO PvP is... not.

Your father was captain of a starship for twelve minutes. He saved 800 lives, including your mother's, and yours.
I do. I fly a t5u wells and can survive. Just gotta know what your doing and what your fighting.So..who/what did you fight...Also there is a T5u only pvp channel.

sto can never be a gold standard for space PvP since nothing actually takes place in what would be considered a space environment so your hopes are in vain. now, it could be good as a combat sub sim, since that's how stos 'space' works.

According to the general forums, everything is balanced and working as intended. You just need to adapt to meta gameplay
that but according to Geko you get vaped because you suck. The game is fine is just people are idiots and steam charts lie about players leaving the game.
Escorts zooming in and out of combat. T6 cruisers being one or two shotted constantly. No time to call targets or have any kind of coordinated team healing.
Leaderboards and new queues won't make a difference: STO PvP has completely changed for the worse and it's dead to me now.
The positive side of this experience is now I don't waste my time with STO. Uninstalled the game and going to War Thunder.

actually those zippies are one of my major concerns pre- and post-dr .
The last 6 months or so has pretty much screwed any real fun you could have in PvP. A slight fix/nerf here and there won't fix PvP, it's way too far gone. You could quite easily argue any sort of balance and fun was gone as far back as LOR.

PvP is a lost cause.
sad but true! indeed, after popping into 2 c&h's (one on my bop, map filled up with zippies. i left.) and one on my sci (blink-of-an-eye intel slaughtered 2 times), i start to feel the same way. and that's really sad to me, cause i loved to pew in here.
I got beaten badly today.
Yes, SS3 is deadly. As are some other builds.
To get one build so specialized, there's a lot of work/ressources going into that. And no build is invincible.
Took me quite a time to get the ship/gear and upgrades I wanted for that toon.
I have been alphed by ships that were flying faster than their cannon could fire. they were past me before the rounds hit (and killed) me. Was I annoyed? Heck, yes. Unbalanced? Maybe a bit. But it takes a good player to make such a powerful build. Also don't forget: this makes them very vulnerable - if they make a mistake, they die.
There are some counters. Feedback pulse, jam sensors, evade target lock,...
I hate it if people don't accept that there are some very good players.
One of my toons has close to 400 flow caps, uses Tyken rift, energy syphon and aceton assimilators. With a bit of luck I can drain an enemy to all power lvls 0 and then kill them off. At least if they are not protected at all against Power drain. I sometimes heard that I was cheating or whatever...
Annoying about PvP atm is tha LAG - SS3 allows you to shoot from cloaked. If I hit FBP the attacker doesn't have shields. However: I hit FBP and wait for 2 seconds before I 1.) die and 2.) respawn with the skill not on CD because it never got activated. This has happened also while I was capping - so no, I wasn't clicking buttons or hitting space. It was just lag.
And another thing that's annoying: There are virtually no rewards for PvP, which makes it less attacktive. I have 14 toons - have to lvl and equip them. And as much as I enjoy PvP, I harldy do that now as I have to grind more

it's not that most people in here complaining about loosing to a good player. indeed most of them are good players and could built a zippy-build f.e. themselves (i may be not that good, but i could). in my case it's just that i refuse to to use most things i not want to get used on me!
and that list is a long one post-dr lol. i got most stuff i'd need to make these builds (zippers, intel-vapers, got a nice drain-build, whatnot), but to me it totally differs from what i was seeking in here when pvp was fun to me.
even camera can't hold up with the targets lol....
before all that stuff a good pilot could win a match by skill, it less was about the stuff. now it's about the stuff u bring, u don't need skill. skill just makes it worser for the other person.
not with such speed! cam could hold up and they not have been faster than their volleys. when i saw that conn-hologramm the first time i just had the feeling of overkill. escorts already were fast at that point (way too fast for my taste, and i did fly lots of scorts), but that doff just seemed/seems ridicoulus.
funny sidenote: when the risian corvette first came out i tried it out with cannons and really didn't like it! way too fast, way too much turn for my taste and in comparison to what i was used to by that time.
made it a scary beam-scort, one of the first i saw by that time. fun for in between, but totally no piloting skill needed to fly it lol.
Yeah.. but they one shot your friend and by the time I turn my escort to alpha they are 20k away. By the time I found another target I was killed by another escort. These are not cloakers. They were Phantom escorts rushing in and one shoting anything that moved and moving out again.
I hate it if people don't accept that there are some very good players.
I've never had any problems with good players. I was PvP'ing for 4 years. I've lost to much better players than I was and never complained. I admired their skill.
But now the game has changed and it's super fast one-shot kills that dominates. I don't like that kind of game, and I don't admire whatever skill it takes to do it.

wast, flying escort means going fast. You just don't seem able nor to pilot them, nor to fight them properly. You should learn something on that regard. Really, your arguments on escorts are invalid lol.

Make a distinction please. One thing are Phantoms (and you're right) skillessly oneshotting with Surgical.
Another thing are normal escorts (note: I don't mean the newest ones) striking you in seconds to 0%. I used to do that on the Tempest with BO3, cannons and Nadeon Saturation Bomb. If the target didn't wake up in time, they were gone before knowing I was arriving.

well, regarding current meta i may not can in the way how i could before. but, as said: before this meta i succesfully fought scorts on a dhc-gal-x. as for my piloting skills: ask others about those (f.e. mrx, mdl, jif, reggie, parkie, whoever), as i'm the wrong to answer that .
and it's not that i may not could, it's more that i absolutely don't like it and so refuse to do it. it's not related to fun to me in any way !
consistent fights that involve piloting, that's what i liked. not a knights-tourney style that zipping is so much about. u can like it, it's ok.
but don't u personally judge my opinion, experience with scorts nor my skill only because we disagree on zipping, as i don't do on yours! :P ... and i don't remember u to have been there those days...
tbh: i hardly ever could respect people who used a2b, if on cruisers or scorts: doesn't matter to me. but do i blame any of those people personally? nope, i don't! i blame cryptic for providing such abilities and for progressing the meta in the direction it took, at least since lor!

I was describing what happened to me during my most recent and last PvP match.
One shots have been here a long time, and I have never minded someone who can do it. Even vapers, because it's hard to time and it takes practice.
lets give a hand for pug stomping!- its funny how you can track the amount of pug stomping that was going on nightly with the enthusiasm of most of the dino players, they would get in a few matches a night, most of those matches was a walk in the park, they got to high five over how great they were nightly with the occasional 5v5 that was fleet-made/friend-made that actually were set up right, then they would have their long, dragged out, hard fought match walking away with a sense of pride that they felt like they did something and it was a good fight (reality is, if all you can do is wait for the cooldown of 2-3 subnukes to get a kill in the match, then really how the hell is that anything close to a balanced system of powers and abilities in the game, OR what? wait for the other team to slip up after 45 minutes strait, AGAIN, how is that strategy? YOU were never in control of the match if that was the primary ways of getting a kill, "general, we are going to keep pouring troops on the field until the enemy FINALLY screws up, and then hopefully sir, we then may be able to take the hill" BUT HEY! these guys got to push buttons, fly around for a bit, feel like their doing something- they got their wins nightly off the pug stomps so that I guess, is all that it took to keep their interest in the game, TO HELL with options, TO HELL with diversity, TO HELL with fresh players having the tools and the ability to create something that works, TO HELL with all of that, the dino players wanted a cookie cutter pvp experiense where they could build to 1 obvious build, one obvious team makeup, and take it into match after match after match without having to change a thing
FINAL PART : LOL, kids, these guys that cry and complain every flipping day have been doing it for a few years now, ask anyone of these guys: should a tac captain do good in a sci ship for damage? should a sci captain do good in an escort? should a cruiser be able to do good damage? should there be cloakers in 5v5 matches? BETTER yet, should an engineer captain be able to do good dps? all of these above they will say no, or give some "well, not as good as a tac captain in an escort" answer- fact is these guys want tons of ships in the game, but they also want their to be just 1 good ship for each class, 1 good build for each class, and that those builds CUT through everything else, tac in a scort, eng doing healing in a cruiser, sci worthless except for being an off healer in a sci ship- thats their dream for this game, thats what they want to go back to- they want noobs flying all the junk ships so that they have something to shoot at and ridicule nightly- and when cryptic started to drift away from that junk balance in the game, when these dino players started getting poped in the cues left and right- they spazzed out and most quit the game (can you blame them? its like your a knight, you fight in armor with a sword, and then I come along with a gun and shoot you, cause its not the dark ages anymore, its modern warfare, and the knight, all hes ever known is how to fight with the sword, he cant adapt, all he can do is complain, AGAIN I really dont fault them for it, we are all products of our own eras, but in the same stroke theirs the powers balance issue, and if anyone tells ya it was more balanced in the past, YA it was balanced for escorts, and escorts alone)
balancing this game for escorts alone was in the end what killed pvp for this game years ago, I know plenty of die hard pvpers that walked away that spent good money in this game getting ships, learning about powers, and in the end walked away cause they saw the only thing that mattered for damage in pvp was a bug ship, and that all the other powers were junk, and the only way to run a solid team is do off healers and healers for the bug ships, AND god save you if you dont have at least 2 sci captains in their somewhere cause then it doesnt even matter, you will never get a kill LOL
[...]
hmmm.... really not got the mood to read it all, but some things stroke my eyes:
- best matches have been those without pug-stomping and i've never been a friend of that!
- got a channel running for pug-mades for quite some time. why did i? easy: to have the chance to compete with all those premades in the q's back in the days and many times we did q up splitted to get a challenge (and to get the nice ones onto my friends-list of course ).
- ran all types of ships in pvp on my main-tac. cruisers, sci-ships, scorts. performed in most of them better than one may would've expected
(to note: non-a2b tac cruisers or whatevers! i drop this cause some do think only that made cruisers viable. that's still bs imho !)
- many called it scorts online, which mostly got changed by a2b. referring on the note above i always thought that's only half of the truth/bs.
just as with the jhas: it was so much about the pilot! jhas never was an "i-win" button like the stuff we got now! sure, in decent hands it was very dangerous, but not over the top.
- fought an engie in a charal that made it to own me and 2 other and better pilots than me, i think it even was pre-lor (or around that time; fear lourens lol).
engies can do damage, one only seems to have to know how, at least back in the days . i have no clue about it, xcept: get as many accolades (and the lil bonusses from those) as u can get!
