Seriously how did a system that's not broken and nobody complained about get pushed ahead of pvp? With four years and thousands of threads begging for any kind of attention, years worth of dead promises most recently when Geko was on priority one a few months ago saying "we will get to it" As it stand right now there is no reason to even build up a ship honestly someone tell me the point of building a ship? oh yeah so I can do stf's faster next time I forgot.
So STO is at the point where years or promises are not kept and customers wishes are ignored I would like for anyone to find a thread at any point during STO's history asking for a boff overhaul as compared to the hundreds of thousands of threads asking for something as simple a a new pvp map
this is pathetic even more then the "dinosaurs with frikin laser beams on their heads"
Nitpicking is a time-honored tradition of science fiction. Asking your readers not to worry about the "little things" is like asking a dog not to sniff at people's crotches. If there's something that appears to violate natural laws, then you can expect someone's going to point it out. That's just the way things are.
I used to love STO's PvP, but even back then, I found it hard to know where to begin to "fix" the issues it had. Now, with DOFFs, Reputation Sets, Universal Consoles, lockbox ships, specializations... I don't know where to begin.
But I think he simple reason is - Cryptic has just released the first BO Specialization in Delta Rising, and the next is coming. Without a revamp to the BOFF system, it's actually difficult to get bridge officers that could use these skills. And it ties with the specialization system for the Captain itself, too, and so it's pretty critical to get these things on a track that it all works together and keeps people interested in building out their specializations.
And every player uses bridge officers. But very few (unfortunately) spend time in PvP.

A while back, there was a massive uproar from the PvP players here in the forums. Don't even remember what it was about, but it got VERY nasty. All the PWE moderation staff were on in force handing out bans like mad. At the peak of the nastiness, D'Angelo popped in and indicated that all currently-planned PvP development work had been permanently dropped, even going so far as to line-item list some of them (a type of open-sector PvP, lots of balancing, fixes for Ker'rat, some new maps, etc.). Sometime later, most traces of this were tucked away in mod-only boards, and obviously the banned players can't come back and continue to complain, hence why all is more or less quiet on the PvP-complaint front.
Yes, the PvP community royally screwed themselves over. I would not be surprised at all if there are still ZERO plans to develop for PvP after that debacle.

Right now PvP is broken to the point of "Whoever sees the enemy first wins" because it boils down to either aux2batt or Escort/Raider Vape builds that kill just about anything in one hit. Throw in Romulan Battle Cloak and it gets worse.
In short, other than some hardcore PvP fans, PvP isn't really fun or entry level friendly for most people because they are just flying targets that don't stand a chance. Until some kind of balance pass or tier system is adopted, most players will get vaped in two seconds flat, and that does not start PvP off to a good start with new people.
yet another "they're fixing stuff other than the stuff I want them to fix" thread.... how cute
more like:
"they're again revisiting things that mostly work fine and no one asked for to change, while ignoring a ton of promises made years ago and persistent bugs"

well it only took 30mins to find that what the score now 300k to 1?
You're a big fan of hyperbole aren't you? You asked for one thread so I gave you one thread. I can keep this up all day and give you an entire wall of threads but that won't be good enough for you because it doesn't agree with your juvenile little crusade so no thanks, I'm bowing out. And for the record, I feel bad for PVP in STO. It has been terribly neglected forever and I'm not trying to minimize/dismiss complaints of how it has been left to rot or say that it should be a low priority; I'm just pointing out that "nobody complained about Boff training" is fallacious and you've clearly not been paying attention.

I now realize i'm beating a dead horse pvp is dead and buried cryptic has no intention of ever putting a cent into it most of the players that are left are content buying ships for no other purpose then to fight the same old npc's over again

Yes you are.
Pretty much correct. The devs are tired of the PvP players' self-entitlement, which ran by and far much stronger and deeper than any other segment of the playerbase. PvP players, in MMOs in general, account for less than 10% of the population anyway, and Cryptic has said in the past that their PvP metrics were lower than the MMO average. Not much potential profit to be had there no matter how you try to dice it.
Depends on the player. Many players refuse to pay any more money into the game because of various decisions and practices PWE/Cryptic have made/done/implemented. Not everyone is buying all the ships.
I can't speak for everyone, but I personally would rather a constant stream of new content (and NPCs to go with it). Same old is boring. Coincidentally, this is also why I don't PvP - it's always the same old combat in the same old maps against the same small group of players using the same ships, loadouts, and tactics. Borg death torpedos are more interesting because they aren't predictable.

yeah I hear ya but I feel that way about pve the same old npc's doing the same old thing pve is all the same your just fighting different ships with a different background but they all do the same thing everytime, at least in pvp no single battle is exactly the same on a side note would more people pvp if there was a purpose or if cryptic invested in it. It's like a restaurant which has'nt changed the menu in 20 years and wondering why nobody is eating there
PvP is dead and you pretty much have to just accept it. PvP was never popular in the game ... even at launch. It was played because of a lack of other things to do.
However at this point DPS is pretty much king and cloaked ships can one shot anyone. Without the mother of all DPS nerfs while doing PvP it would not be fun for anyone or work. Very quickly PvPers would run out of targets.
I have seen some MMOs decide to put PvE rewards gated through PvP content and fairly often that ended up in the death of the MMO or a very quick backtrack of the stuff.
Many people that play MMOs will not PvP under any circumstance. However, if you force the issue by putting useful items behind PvP gates they complain very loudly and then leave.
In the end PvP would require too much work to fix for too small of a gain for cryptic to ever care.

People that want to PvP are doing so here or in other games more compatible to PvP. There is no magic majority of STO players just waiting to jump into the PvP game here, as soon as Cryptic dumps a bunch of time and money into PvP for a very minor return.
I used to love STO's PvP, but even back then, I found it hard to know where to begin to "fix" the issues it had. Now, with DOFFs, Reputation Sets, Universal Consoles, lockbox ships, specializations... I don't know where to begin.
I couldn't have said it better myself.
I was thinking the other day, 'damn, I really miss playing PVP in STO' it was a blast at one point and I'd play it for little return.
Oh well, at least there are memories, a lost cause as far as I'm concerned.
Retired. I'm now in search for that perfect space anomaly.
since pvps dead can we have our skills unnerfed by the fact that they are op in pvp -science
as a more on topic note pvp died because of cheese and unbalance pvp. Contrary to everyone here saying was actually very good and popular in the early days seasons 1.2-3
so the base mechanics for this game make up for an amazing pvp environment but yea power-creep for monetary gain ruined it.
i think they just need to open up a server that is meant for pvp and balanced around it and leave the pve server balanced for that and clone our characters over both of them then everyone wins cryptic could make some dang big piles of cash if they did it right but they wont because its a RISK and they are RISK AVERSE!

Actually.... when looked at from a certain point of view, this is an improvement to PvP. It will soon be theoretically possible to train a single boff with EVERY skill that they could possibly learn and (probably) change skills whenever not at red-alert.
Yes, the PvP community royally screwed themselves over. I would not be surprised at all if there are still ZERO plans to develop for PvP after that debacle.
Ahhh I get it know the lack of PvP work is the Players fault.
I can tell you from over 10 years experience, never ever ever ever try to PvP in a game made by Cr*ptic. If you want PvP you may want to look elsewhere.
Unless you can suggest a way for PvP to generate massive Zen, forget it. And even then the fixes would lean more towards Zen sales than actual balance.
I'm amazed they haven't "banned" posts about PvP in the FCT thread.
Petition to add fly from bridge feature. Please share!! Me: Did you read past the title? Posts about flying from the bridge are not allowed. They are prohibited. Game Master Urizor: Yes, and while I understand your suggestions, however, the forums is the best place to discuss suggestions. I apologize for the confusion.

This is like... the opposite of how things work.
PvE: You do the same thing over and over. Literally. No variation. Everyone here could probably do an ISA while blindfolded and asleep, because it's literally the same sequence of events every time. The death torps are random, sure, but that doesn't change what the outcome or how you go about playing it.
PvP: Every match is different, because of the players and ships/builds involved. Even if it is the same players with the same ships and the same builds 2 matches in a row, the outcome won't be the same* since you'll know what's coming at you and you'll adapt to it. For example, if you get TBR'd to death in the first match, you'll know to stay at least 5KM away for the second one... keeping you alive longer, dramatically altering the outcome and how you play.
*Provided you don't have AFKers, pugs that think they're Kirk and can just bumrush the whole other team, or premade vs pug.

get back on your Whitehorse and go back to esd or how about you go see if you can do stf's fasten then the last time
well it only took 30mins to find that what the score now 300k to 1?

nope, just the opposite, there are already threads like this, hence the ...."yet another" part
with the same level of maturity too, go post in one of those

So there is your answer.
hen or egg?! wrong way to look at in an online game imo!
