I have tried yesterday Tides on ice; it's funny. this was only curiosity, because i'm not interested by the items. i have already the clothes than i wanted from the last year; the new ones are just bah! a shame.
Also i have already too much grind, i don't want to add an other one to my big list
however cryptics artists have done a nice job. (except for the clothes)
Just had a peek around, but it seems dreadfully cold. Yes silly statement, but it had a blustering wind, snow flying, and not the "magical winter wonderland" feel of last year.
Is it just me... or does it seem like they're trying too hard to "up the ante" on everything and are losing the big picture among all the "me too!" metric-driven details? I just don't understand why you'd overdo things just to end up with something less welcoming and attractive than previous.
After three hours of beating my skull against that ******* race trying to WIN the ***** photos which the dev blog clearly said would be awarded for PARTICIPATION......
I am probably sitting out the event out of sheer frustration unless they fix this glaring bug. I wanted the ships - if only because my stable is woefully thin, being a new player who owns precisely one lockbox ship - but I appear to be completely incapable of winning that race.
Why not do the roll or jump method to get around the tight corners faster? not doing it out of principal or something? I tried it the proper way and i got close. But i am doing the event on a bunch of toons so i said TRIBBLE it and just ended up cheesing it and rolling at the corners. I heard that you get a discount or you only have to pay 40 pics once you've unlocked a ship. But i've heards from several people in game saying they unlocked the ships but on one of their alts the project was asking for a full 1000 pic price instead of 40. So i dont know who to trust, which is why i'm doing it on all my toons.
Sure, I'm sittin' it out. I'm still tryin' to work out "New Nerf Thursday" and "waste my time" power trays.
Ground thru Risa last summer,(my first) why would I want to bother doing another grind-fest? the xp, ec, and the all the other little "nerflets" have left a bad taste in my mouth. By the by, I'm above lvl 60 and flying T5-U's.
"We seee many thingss, We seee new machiness on IX,
We seee a problemm withh House Atreideesss, We Seee a Problem withh Housse Harkonnenn"
I'm doing the pie eating only really, I found the race so frustrating even trying to use the jump roll method that I near threw my keyboard through a closed window!
One toon is going for the warp core, one other stops by now and again to raise items for my fleets bank. Apart from that business as normal in the rest of the universe.
I may spend down some of my stockpiled Christmas supplies on the new jackets but I'm just not feeling like Q's Winter Wonderland this year. I'm not planning on doing the races or going for any of the prizes at least and I may not set foot in there when I login.
I used to enjoy it but I feel a bit soured on it and like it would be a waste of playtime.
Anyone else feel the same way?
My fun metric is highest after logging in, refining some dilithium and logging out. So no.

Just do the roll, dont even worry about the jump. You know how when you are moving really fast on the ice you can change the direction you are looking at but you still keep move in the same direction? well when you reach a sharp turn just do it so that you slide, then turn in the direction you want to go in and then do a forward roll. See in the video how right before i did the roll i changed the direction i was FACING but i was still MOVING in the other direction for like half a second? rolling cancels out the movement and it rolls you in the direction you are facing.

Is it just me... or does it seem like they're trying too hard to "up the ante" on everything and are losing the big picture among all the "me too!" metric-driven details?
Who knows ... -- maybe it's just part of the R&D that they do for PWE, or maybe there is a mad desire to to SWTOR ... or ... or ... maybe it's something that looks good on the resume ... .
Funny, I did the race a few times the first year of the Winter Event, got my first attack ship out of the three gifts I opened.
Until now, I ignored the event. The Winter stuff in Guild Wars 2 is way better, as with their other events.
This year I'm doing the race on three characters, so I can get all the Breen ships on one of them. Still contemplating the warp core, but the Breen set is pretty bad anyway.
I enjoy skating, racing, pie eating, watching neelix come up with the most insane recipes (as long as i don't have to taste them), smashing snowmen and smashing ice borg.
So why on earth would i skip the winter event.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
The Chel Grett is the only ship I might be interested in from the winter event, and my Nicor is basically a superior version. Think I'll be sitting out the festivities.

Anyway, I always felt the Wonderland was a good amount of fun, so yesterday I wnet in. And its still a good amount of fun.
I am not going to contribute pictures yet (awaiting the Chel Grett discount that is not there, but I have one from 2012 so yeah), but I am getting my boots, a warp core for my main and possibly for a KDF, and ofcourse to fill up the Fleet project.
Are people really b****ing about the glassy ice floors on the promenade? Asking for the wooden one back? SERIOUSLY PEOPLE?! Im all for complaining over a legit slight by Cryptic but THAT is just too far guys. I think some of you are DRUNK on complaining.
Tides of Ice is good fun
The Impaler gun is awesome
Breen ships are still ugly
Stop feeling the need to get something for EVERY toon you own. Its obvious Cryptic doesnt want to be alt friendly, so adjust your gaming desires to match it. Pick 1 or 2 toons you want to be your winter toons, and deck them out, leaving the others out. Dont feel the pressure to spend your whole December and January grinding in this game. This game isnt worth your hard labor.
Its possible to have some STRESS FREE fun in this Winter Event. The tighter Cryptic wants to clamp down, the less you play and the less digital desire you should have to match it. WE are in control here. They tick us off, WE have the power to adjust their metrics. And you know what the metrics on MY account tell them? He played a little Winter wonderland, got a free gun, but we still did nothing to compel him to spend one damn zen.
Stop letting Cryptic jerk your chain. Jerk theirs. Its pretty obvious they are s***ing themselves over the metrics WE ALL created by leaving the game when it got unbearable. They want to keep their jobs. They'll come around. Just dont spend or feel the need to grind hard until they do. THEY decided to make the game F2P, so now its easier for us to tinker around for a bit of FREE fun while still getting our point across with closed wallets and lower time logged in metrics.
It is truly the Winter of Cryptic's Discontent. Im over here sippin hot chocolate and having a swell time on THEIR dime. You all should do the same. Its up to them to read and comply with our feedback, or they can warm up their resumes when PW turns the game off.

I'm participating for the moment. Primarily for the Breen ships (good free ships for my alt's).
Once those are done I doubt I'll worry about anything else. Getting the guns does help though, so maybe those and maybe some Frosted boots (always useful). Most of the rest is balls.
Seeing as I have my Delta Rep's up at level 4 already for 4 toons, I don't care about the lvl 5 rep trait unlock as it's ground and therefore mostly irrelevant for me. I don't have a whole lot to log on for.
Chris Robert's on SC:
"You don't have to do something again and again and again repetitive that doesn't have much challange, that's just a general good gameplay thing."
I'm still waiting for a coherent answer to this question:
If you're not even logging in to the game any more, if you've completely given up on it, why are you still here? Seriously, what's the attraction to hanging around somewhere you don't want to be?
Im here because its become a habit of me over the 4,5 years to check the forums and have a good laugh at threads/people/myself etc. Lately forums have been much better than in years. Its all going to helll but why not have a laugh while waiting for the funerals. PULL THE PLUG! LOL
Logd in today (had few beers and thought, oh what the hell, lets patch it) just to see the new winter grind event. Must say it looks a bit better than last year. But, in my instance there were only one lonely daily iceskater..and i think he left as soon as he did the daily. I was left alone in the cold....snip!
I had to actually google the new ships stats to see if it would be worth the grind. Couldnt find the stats in game, nice job! Then i logd off.
Sure the ship kinda looks semi okay. Could do some of this and that with it but while i have already almoust every lockbox ship and the whole z-store +lobi ships +all kinds of junk in my inventory, didnt really see the point.
Seriously, whats the point on having a new toy when theres empty Q´s and yes, dont give me the TRIBBLE about some stupid bug...its not true! Oh and the end game still doesnt exist. Its all just one big happy grind.
One of the reasons why i wont touch Sto for a looong time if ever, is the damn r&d system. I hate when you hit level 15 and you can make some sweet consoles, but WAIT! Its RANDOM YET AGAIN! Theres no way you can make a difference on the console you making. SO FOOK YOU WHO EVER IS IN CHARGE OF IT!
TBH, my first impression of this year's event is not as good as last year. Time-gating the lvl 60 snow guns, really? I guess I'll have to go in for some of the stuff I passed on last year (frosty boots, winter tribble, etc.) just to have a decent chance in the ice race (1 win in 4 tries, with no other players in the race). Not sure if the Breen warp core is worth replacing my Solanae cores, but I'll have to have at least one to test. Only half-heartedly looking forward to getting a "free" T6 ship (time is more valuable than money). Some new wardrobe options would be nice; none of these things (except the ship) requires my daily attention...

Quite true.
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.

Thank you, Frank Herbert!
Hiding all the new gear behind some "must grind this mission out x amount of times to unlock" method is off putting to the point of not caring..
I shall do my race for the ship on my main, and also the pvp race for the Marks, but that is it on this occasion...
