Anyone else sitting out the winter event this year?

leviathan99#2867 leviathan99 Member Posts: 7,747 Arc User
I may spend down some of my stockpiled Christmas supplies on the new jackets but I'm just not feeling like Q's Winter Wonderland this year. I'm not planning on doing the races or going for any of the prizes at least and I may not set foot in there when I login.

I used to enjoy it but I feel a bit soured on it and like it would be a waste of playtime.

Anyone else feel the same way?

I think the only other person I've heard of that doesn't want to participate in it is shpoks but then again I think hes doing the races. I myself am participating.

I'm still thinking about whether I'll log on just for this event. I always liked the event, really, but Delta Rising and the ensuing management/PR/xp disasters have left a foul taste in my mouth and as of right now I still don't feel like they deserve my time in game adding to their precious metrics.
I ask nothing but that you remember me.

I will participate... but probably won't stay long since too many items are blocked by "per character" grind requirements.

I sit it out every year. I find Breen ship designs intolerably ugly.

Kinda. Will get the ship on one toon (though with leftover pics from last year, that'll only take a week), but the grind requirement for Tide Of Ice has really soured the mood on playing with that. Its funny, if they just put the new stuff out there and turned us loose to do whatever we felt like whenever we felt like, I'd probably run it a couple dozen times just for accolades and snowman killing sprees and for the lulz. However by trying to make us do it just to get permission to buy stuff, sucks the fun out of it and turns it into work (and is an insulting attempt at manipulation to boot). I swear, if they'd just let us play instead of trying to control us so much, just let players do whatever they like, there'd be so much less bitterness around here. But this seeming disdain for letting us make our own decisions, even in goofy festive stuff, it just kills the mood.

I sat out the summer event and I'll sit out the winter event. No protest though, just not my thing.

Only five more hours to unlock being able to purchase the core!

Yeah, I want to get it over and done with so I can just do the blink 'n done race once a day.

I prefer the summer event over the winter one so really only pop in to go ice skating. But as there's no point in logging in at the moment thanks to everything I enjoy doing either being broken or XP-nerfed into pointlessness, I'm not really excited about the idea of logging in just to circle around a frozen lake.

    Sit out?

...Not really. The Snorg event is actually, dare I say, fun. First fun in-game I've had in weeks!

After I grinded snowpiles for jackets for my 4 Feds first year they were out, Ive decided I'll just use 1 toon per winter event, and not try to collect stuff for them all. Its funner that way. Im using a different toon from last year, and this year, I JUST want that icicle Impaler gun. I'll play with that a few times, since Ive NEVER got around to earning any snowguns any year before, then I'll go back to grinding my main to see the end of the new storyline.

Odd Event, but I am not going so deeply into it. :( The ship well I am very happy with the Summer Event 2014 RLC Ship and the Breen well not something I would fly around. I had thought they would build a new type of ship for Winter Even with more weapons.

How come the little Kazon Heavy Raider has more going for it? Very nice little tiny ship to take out for spin and that comes with it's own bridge. So right now I am good. I'll be down to this planet to do some pie eating, taking out the regular and borg snowmen. Gingerbread Town is so funny but in all fun. Like Colony Invasion but with Snowmen, Gingerbread people and Yeti.

I do like some of the smaller prizes, but the grind for those will be worth it. My FED FADM just wearing is armor suit. I can have him flip on his helmet or flop it off. That's all you really need. I don't see why I would need a winter heavy coat, wool scarf and hat which can only be use at this type of event.

I will be going there and having fun. Even last year I was there. At that time I was after the scarves. The Romulan one I still wear on my character. Since it matches her uniform very well.

This year, I'm not sure what I will get. Jacket possible, new carrier, warp core for my Chel warship? There is a few possibilities for me go there.

I'm having fun this year. The assimilated snowmen are hilarious and fun. I had a great time today with fleetmates fighting them. Also, the ship is technically the only t6 science ship available right now for the KDF and Roms so I'll for sure be getting the carrier for them.

The winter event has way less grind than the summer event. I'm done in just a few mins with the winter event, while the summer event...

Also, +1 for Neelix. Great job on his voiceover.

I just do the race everyday to get the T6 Ship.

Once I complete the race for the day, I immediately leave. Nothing else really interests me.. heck, I probably won't even use the ship.. I just for some reason can't force myself to pass on a free T6 ship, even if I'm not planning to use it. :D

I'll do the race for the ship, and unlock the Grett on the rest of my chars that don't already have it (if they fix the discount bug). Otherwise, no, Q can suck it this year.

The Breen Carrier is the first of a very space collection of free Tier 6 ships. That and the ability to reduce the grind on future Winter Event ships is why I will be doing this Winter Event.

I logged on today to begin my 25 runs on my main and 2 races on each alt to get the free ship. I really like that change they made.

Then I realized they added back the grind for buying items like the warp core and jackets. I just sat and stared my list of potential purchases, half greyed out until I ran 10 missions on each alt. i remembered why they changed getting ships to begin with on alts. It was a boring grindfest.

I considered ranting. I considered a ragequit. Then I remembered...

They don't care. They want to put in boring grind systems that give them the metrics they want.

Then I just let out a heavy sigh and was saddened that this incessent grinding, appeal to whales gameplay is what STO has become and its not going to change.

I finished today's STO play session looking on Amazon for a new game to play. :(

I suck at carriers and I have a hard-and-fast "no non-faction ships" policy, so TRIBBLE the Sarr Theln. But I might drop in to play for uniform goodies.

I got bored last year and left after the ship and will do the same this year too. I can find 2 minutes to do a single race each day. Oh I will also do 5 of that one mission on my sci for the kit. I like to try ice instead of fire on my pyro. Other than that I doubt I'll be there too much after today.

I'm debating it right now but honestly leaning towards staying out. I really want a Breen carrier but my dissatisfaction with the game outweighs my desire for a new ship. Plus once you get a new ship, you have to equip it and that opens a new can of warms.

And the last thing you want on a Breen ship is a can of warms. Liable to thaw out all that supercooled gear.

Just ran my ROM and KDF really after a few pie eats and I've notice there were much players at the Borg Snowmen attacks. Actually Wonderland seems pretty empty. Where did everyone go? I calling it a night here..

Just got my Impaler gun after grinding Tides of Ice 5 times. OMG I LOVE this gun. The whole event is worth it just to wield this gun around. Hey Frosty Borgman, how bout an icicle RIGHT THROUGH THE SKULL! :D

Does it count as "sitting out the winter event" if I'm sitting out the whole game right now? :D
    [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
My guess is "hope" keeps people not playing but posting on the forums. For others, its a path of sad realization and closure. Grieving takes time. The worst "haters" here love the game, or did at some point.

Awesome sig! I do so love the three wise men :D I wish I could make one like that but I suck at that stuff.

I may drop in once before it is over but I have pretty much given up on STO. The people in charge obviously do not care about the players, and are totally committed to the belief grind=content/fun.
