Please Make Specialization Points / EXP Dil-Purchasable

repetitiveepicrepetitiveepic Member Posts: 6,549 Arc User
With all of the back and forth with nerfing the exp/specialization stuff in the game, I propose to better serve the community of players who honestly dont want the headache, to introduce an option to spend dil to obtain exp/skill/specialization.

Not everyone has the many hours a day necessary to grind for these, and other people prefer grinding dil to grinding the specialisation stuff.

This would not take away specialization points of exp from anyone, or indeed even cheapen the accomplishment of grinding to get it. On the contrary, it would add value to that grind, a specific dil-value.

If nothing else, it could be a catch-up mechanic for people who weren't around to get all their specialization from Tau Dewa.

ETA Jan 2015-

With the announcement of new spec point tree grinds, I think the time is more ripe than ever before for an alternative progression system like this.

Ahh Cryptic has been waiting all day for someone to make this suggestion...I'll bet it'll happen by the next patch.
No need to rebel against and unfair system...just let us spend more money so we can achieve the same goal we could yesterday for free!!

Absolutely not. The precedent that would set, just outright buying levels? You think the power creep and P2W are bad now..... What they need is to fix the leveling rate back to what it was before DR, not more monetization idiocy.

Hmm.. the OP has a point,

most buying options lately feel more like buying painkillers than something for fun anyway.

Here we would have a nice way to buy ourselves free from actually playing the game.

Would consider it depending on how much Zen it costs.

    Wait!!!

    It’s for free. :)

OMG Cryptic finally did it, they have followed in the great teachings of Gul Dukat and the playerbase will beg to throw money at them, to make their lives easier

I said its what they need to do, not what I expect them to do. What I expect is that they'll be stubborn in refusing to admit and correct the mistake, and instead keep making things worse. Thankfully SWTOR comes out with a new expansion of their own in 2 weeks, an Revan is a hell of a lot more interesting than system patrols.

I'd pay a million dil right here right now to have a bunch of specialization points and lv 60.

So at current exchange rates, you'd give them $62.50 just to level up, more than the cost of a whole other game? You're certainly the kind of player they want.

I don't think the OP is serious.
Or the OP isn't quite right the noodle.

It just seems crazy to me to reward these people for essentially kicking us in the private parts.

Are you really suggesting that people should give into this madness and buy their way out of it? Because if you are...where do you see that ending? Or have you considered that at all? Do the words "Endless Progression" enter into your reasoning at all?

For me that makes sense. F2P is money vs time. If I could buy the points instead of hours and hours grinding in Argala then it's still cheaper for me because of my costs of opportunity. My Argala grinding does not add to the gameplay but my money does help to keep the game alive, also for the pure F2P players.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind paying Zen to buy Spec points, with the requirement that at least one character is at level 60, has already bought Zen from Cryptic, and the characters you're buying Spec points for is at least level 50 to prevent early abuse before then. And that there's a weekly limit of 25 points or so; 5 per character. It wouldn't even hurt Cryptic's bottom line since they did away with the Dil bonuses you'd get from leveling after maxing out all available specializations.

I'm not one of those super desperate to pay for another 50 points worth of Spec points, but it'd be nice to at least get Rock and Roll out the gate at level 50.

I am extremely serious. I would much much *much* rather pay 1m dil/zen than do all this never ending, constantly nerfed grind.

    Ok well I believe you.
I have a different take on the situation, I feel that your suggestion is simply giving up, a way of telling of Cryptic they can treat the players any way they want, that we won't fight back instead we'll pay.
Me I'll take the other route, I will not log into this game again until positive changes have been made. I feel this is makes a louder statement to Cryptic than simply closing my wallet. And I am a player who has spent money in this game, just to have my purchases made near worthless or taken away from me entirely.

In short I think there are many players who are or will be on "strike" until changes that help the players are made, again I don't see giving Cryptic more money helping the players. Your post was completely unnecessary on 10-19-14, they changed the rules then they can change them back.

PS: I'll never cross a picket line.

I am a player that sunk more than 2000 EUR into the game over the course of 2.5 years (with Zen purchases, the Legacy Pack, the Delta Pack, the Lifetime sub).

Just saying: even I would not give in to them.

You can buy XP boosts.. I believe they come in 3,000 and 10,000 XP packages and they give a 20% boost to XP gained until that amount of XP is reached.

    Kudos for this posting :D

But it's like this for a long time. The forums are full of threads saying basically "I WILL THROW ALL MY MONEY AT YOU; PLEASE LET ME DO IT, JUST LET ME HAVE [insertminorstuff]!". People have already stopped in general to see the downsides and failure the F2P system is and instead accepted that they just need to throw their money hard enough to get basic features XD

Nobody, however, has been *that* bold and offered to throw his money to skip playing the game entirely. That's a new one :D

why oh why do people prefer to spend money or dil on stuff you can get for free by just playing the game, what does it matter if one player tops out in a month and another player takes 10 years.
I know a guy who plays spider solitaire 1000 times a week but I only play it 20 times a week should I pay so I can have the same score he has got.
better still why not just give cryptic all your money and you will never have to play again but you will always have the best gear and the highest standing ever.

I could half way understand it if there was some really awesome and unique reward for getting there but all there will be is a poltry ability trait that is likely no better then any others you already have.
I could even understand it if there was a deadline at which point you would not possibly be able to finish like with the special events they have like summer/winter/mirror but you can take all the time you want.

you do realise you will earn specialization points for any content you play.

    this in a nut shell.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

    isnt that already possible
buy a xp reward pack... 1000 xp for 200 zen

for one lvl up you only need 158 packs .... so 31600 Zen... thats about 287€

Not true, you do not earn specialization points for PvP or for making profit buying and selling stuff on the exchange.

Surely you can see how I and others are disenfranchised.

And I'm not sure how the rest of your post deals with the issue at hand.

Just because you don't want to pay dil for specialization points doesn't mean other people shouldn't be allowed to.

You do your thing, I'll do mine, why's it got to be any more difficult than that?

is that all you could think of "PvP" & "buying and selling stuff on the exchange" what about reading and deleting your emails, chatting with you fleet buddies in the snazzy new club47, flying you ship through sector space ect.
yes there is a lot of stuff in sto that does not earn you specialization points.
I was however referring to actual mission content, like stuff from the pve ques like stf, crystalline entity and the mirror event while it was running, or by playing and replaying story missions and not just the new DR stuff but all the older missions also, playing foundry missions even the farming missions, doing doff missions, going to the available tab on the missions folder and playing something like aiding the deferi or even just popping down to the academy and doing the Path to 2409 lore missions.
and I think you know that.

Delta Rising is only just over a month old and I am at lv59 and have already filled a fair bit of my captains specialization tree on all of my characters and I haven't even been trying that hard, in fact I have been taking it quite slowly I am still only about 4 missions into the DR content itself.
I think that's a fair rate of progress without having to resort to buying my way to the top.

actually this is one time that newer players are at an advantage, as soon as they hit lv50 they will start earning specialization and advancing up to lv60, I have been playing for three years just think how far I would be if this had been active when I started playing.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I got real money that your request will implemented with the next patch or two. Like I said earlier Cryptic has been waiting for someone like to you bring up this idea.

Soon we'll be paying Dil for "Docking Fee's" at all Starbases because we just can't throw enough money at them can we?

I honestly feel bad for attacking you idea, however I just don't understand why anyone would want to pay Cryptic for the bad decisions they made instead of insisting they correct them....because if they did you could have your levels for free in a matter of hours and you would still be helping Cryptic by improving their "metrics" and your money could be spent on ships or inventory slots est.

This way I wouldn't even have to play the game, I could just pay some money and go watch a movie instead! Brilliant!

If anyone thinks players wouldn't be herded into buying this "option" through further nerfs to income and character progress, clearly haven't been paying attention to post DR events.
