Well after not playing a while i wanted to see and buy new voyager interiors and ship and give playing a chance again. NOPE! 0 percent patched after a hour, guess i will NOT be coming back like i thought lol.
Everytime it starts slowing down. I simply hit Cancel(which doesnt remove what has already been downloaded) and 'start' the patch again.. Goes fast for a while and slows down.. But it works.. I've downloaded half the patch in the last 5 min doing this after spending 10 min waiting beforehand.
No, No, No.
See my post below. Read on for where my math went wrong, too!
I don't think it actually sped anything up. It patches as it goes along, so if you, for the sake of math, had a 100mb patch, and patched 50% at 10mb/min, that'd take 10 mins. If you stop the patch, there's only 50mb left, and at the same rate, 50% of a 50mb patch should take 2.5 mins. You're burning through the %'s faster, but it is a % of a smaller number.
So, I tested this theory. And, to some extent, it is true. Thing is, you loose MB's of the patch as you stop and restart, so while the % moves faster, you're loosing ground every time you restart.
I also did the math wrong. Oops...
The real math looks more like this:
If you, for the sake of math, had a 100mb patch, and patched 50% at 10mb/min, that'd take 5 mins. If you stop the patch, there's now 75mb left (because you lost 25mbs), and at the same rate, 50% of a 75mb patch should take 3.25 mins, which translates into 7.5 mins of patch time for the complete rest, versus leaving the patch alone, which would complete in 5 mins.

I usually patch 17 times faster. Maybe this exploit got fixed and nerfed.
Yes, I heard something about the devs wanting to nerf our patch download time since it was just too much fun to download those patches in less than 30 seconds. We'll probably have a new reputation called patch rep where we have to turn in tokens we get for each percentage point downloaded. Those tokens then go towards completing a large number of 20hr projects. Once we've gotten to t5 then we unlock the ability to download patches 30% faster than before. Woohoo!
Lifetime members get priority log in.. TRIBBLE that.. give me priority Patching!
The patching speed for Nov 20 '14 ... ridiculous. Snails are in warp speed in comparison !

No, I've seen multiple reports of 2800 or above from lots of folks.
This is a really big patch.
I really don't understand how (okay) 'Some' of us only have 956MB while 'A lot' of others have that 2800 something! Unless... A 'lot' of you have On-Demand-Patching turned off?
Anyone from PWE said anything about this yet? Not on their twitter/facebook page...
They tend to be a bit slow to respond on these kinds of things some days (most days?). Hoping they give Smirk something to tell us. This patch is wonky.

you must have been in a double XP/Borg patch zone. You have been assimilated!

The real math looks more like this:
It started out for me as a 900MB+ patch, couple mins since my last post i'm at 50% of 420MB after canceling patch and restarting.
and now it's slowed to a crawl at 80% of the 420MB
Patched 339.0MB / 420MB
Received 190.0MB - 80%
its probably the patch itself at this point causing the issues.
We should all just take the weekend off its sales time anyway so go get those bargains !
Come back next Thursday and will try again
It says Patched 48.2MB/ 2850MB
Received 15.9MB - 1%
Remember us forumites no longer matter.

*FiOS begins to fly though a portion of the patch*
*launcher suddenly slows to a snail's pace*
*pop-up message hits screen, "please deposit 100,000 dilithium to gain a +0.0000002% increase in download speed"*
*deposits required dilithium*
*pop-up message hits screen, "Thank you. Your launcher will be available within 20 hours. Have a nice day."*
*sigh*
Definitely something's wrong.
