Would you recommend STO to a friend?

fuglassfuglass Member Posts: 95 Arc User
Hello,
I am asking for others thoughts and feelings on this question, obviously I have my own opinion but I'm hoping to expand my point of view.
If you choose to reply a simple yes or no is fine, but it'd be great if you would explain you position. Having said that this in not a Pro/Con Cryptic thread so there is no need to attack or 'correct' anyone's opinion since that's what I'm asking for anyway.

So on to the question:
Would you recommend STO to a friend?

Thanks in advance!

Sadly, on their customer service alone, I would not.

I won't even take the game itself into consideration because of the woeful lack of support.

LOL, there's no way I'd recommend this game to a friend, enemy, or anyone else.

Not at the moment no. There is too much disconnect I feel between Cryptic and the players.

All of my RL - friends (remotely interested in Trek) already left a long time ago ... so no ...

I'd love to play with them again, but I know it's not gonna happen ... not with the current state of the game ...

Sure I could bend their ears to try again with DR ... but I might loose some friends over it :P

Until Cryptic fixes the mess this patch has created, I will strongly discourage anyone asking from playing the game.

Let him try the game, beginning with the story missions. The whole ranters are complaining about stuff that happens mostly in the Endgame section. The game is free to play so let him try and make his own opinion.

Of course I would...I don't see any reason that I wouldn't. Sure, the game is far from perfect - but no game I've ever come across has been anywhere near perfect either. I would recommend that they stay away from the forums though or maybe ease them into the forums...the forums can be a rough place and easily lead to one questioning the continuation of our species.

    The motive? Cryptic.

You were one of the loudest ranters and insulters when the Galaxy Revamp happened. You said You are a very important guy for the hispanic playerbase and you will tell everyone in your community to stop playing this game.

    You are still here?

    Short term, no.
Long term, I'd wait and see if Cryptic learns anything from this.
    If not, then no again.

Yeah I probably would. Most of my friends are hooked on MMOs and FTPs with FAR more predatory business models and poorer quality content. If you're morbidly curious PM me for details.

No. Because devs are nerf-happy and the game is nothing but a grind-fest. There's supposed to be some level of fun involved. GRINDING IS NOT FUN. You hear that, Cryptic? *storms into their offices with a megaphone*

And poor communication between Cryptic and the player base. They only pretend to interact with us. I doubt they really listen to our concerns, they do whatever makes them more money in the long run.

They've also made rep gear no longer feasible. Where's this promised rebalancing of PvEs? There have been several patches since Delta Rising where this could have been done already. This needs to be done now.

So yeah, I didn't mean for this to be a rant of all of Cryptic's failings (this is only the tip of the iceberg), but I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone unless certain issues were corrected. Cryptic's done a woefully inadequate job at fixing broken stuff, including long long broken stuff (ie Defera bugs, which seem to be on the back-burner)

..but I play it, because I like to see starships and things going boom.. :/ It's a double-edged sword.

Oh Hell no...lol...not in this game. That would just be messed up to do that and I'd lose friends. :P

But for just tooling around for some casual We Come In Peace, Shoot To Kill Trekkie fun...sure. :D

    Of course NOT.

Simply because ever since DR, it's become really unfriendly to casuals, newbies, and fresh level 50 Vice Admirals.

Rep Gear, which was the easiest thing for those 3 groups to work towards while working on their weapons and other gear, are now being restricted to those who "git gud" by reaching level 60+, rather than leaving things alone on Normal and Advanced (which should have been Old Elite). By extension, queues themselves are not worth it anymore, due to reward nerfing while stupidly boosting stats instead of simply creating new Elite and Nightmare modes for the masochists. Had Cryptic left Normal and Advanced at Pre-DR levels, I could still recommend the game, on the basis that at 50, new players wouldn't be screwed over completely.

A big hell no. And not because of DR. This game has had issues well before DR, enough for me to not recommend this to anyone.

I never said I will tell everyone to stop playing this game. I said I would tell them exactly what this game is. And I did.

And like I said always, I wont stop playing because at the end of the day, is Star Trek, and even if is only to look my ship in space, those ship (mines) are Star Trek ships.

Now, that does not mean I should said “yes cryptic, I love you” each time they TRIBBLE it. Btw, I went to some Hispanic ST forums and told them exactly what happened in DR. The good (VOY actors), and the bad (nearly the rest).. if they decide to play after all, is their call.

    Yes.

If they are curious I'd recommend they play F2P and make up their own minds. If they don't like it they can uninstall and carry on with their lives, no biggie.

Nope. Been asked about it by friend who noticed how many hours I had logged in Steam, and as much as I'd love to game with them, I know they'd have to make a crazy time investment to get anywhere and put up with a lot of annoyances along the way. I'm still here because I already have it all unlocked and can do whatever I like, but I'd have to be a TRIBBLE to recommend a friend start at all that stuff brand-new right now.

At this moment in time, no I would not recommend the game to anyone.

That is basically due to a lot of bugs that have been introduced with Delta Rising. Cryptic need to address them to at least stabilize gameplay. I would guess it might take another month or two for enough bugs to be squashed. They also need to stop nerfing things. I can understand why they are nerfing somethings and making other changes, but because of that it is too difficult to guess what the state of the game will be like in the near term future.

Would I like to recommend STO to others? Sure, but I cannot if there are too many changes happening too close to each other. Perhaps in the future... maybe after season 10 is launched... Unless that brings on a whole new avalanche of bugs and too many changes...

Personally, I will be taking a break from STO since it has been the only game I have been playing since January 2014 or at least less frequently with my free time. I will be going for a change of pace soon when I pick up a copy of Alien Isolation. And in Dec/January 2015 I will be splitting my free time allocated for games between STO and X-Com: Enemy Within.
