I wonder whether ppl have really thought about the cost of DR!? I mean, upgrading my ship to Mk XIII was relatively cheap; upgrading rarity was already considerably more costly. I lost a grand total of ca. 1.2 million Dilithium upgrading just *1* ship to Mk XIII 'Ultra Rare' (not even counting weps and EC spent on Tech Upgrades). 960 Dil a pop may seem trivial, but it adds up incredibly fast, especially if you're going for rarity upgrades too.
I gotta admit, I laughed pretty hard when I read those numbers. I'm a terrible person. And I'm not gonna repeat it here, since you really seem to be frustrated about it.
But seriously, 1.2 Mill? How?
Considering that the average t5 ship has around 20 equipment slots and considering that an upgrade from XII (VR) to XIII (VR) is at most around 65k tech points (a bit more for UR), which equals 5-6 purple tech upgrades and 5.5k to 6.5k dilithium, that would make 130k dil at most.
What did you do with that extra Mill? Tried to upgrade rarity with XII VR items? Over and over again? At a 1% chance??? Or use only green upgrades? If so, no wonder you're going broke over that...
Okay, with that out of the way, I wish the lame detractors were right, this time. What has been posted over the last few days clearly shows Elites will be undoable for 99% of the playerbase, without upgrading at least everything to Mk XIV. Epic Gold yielded like a 45% DPS increase, iirc. And Epic Gold will literally cost tens of millions of Dilithium. I don't have that. I did one ship, and will maybe do a second full one, and then I'll be tapped out. Or choose to be, however you want to look at this.
I highly doubt that. Atm I consider my build(s) to be 150-250% OP, I don't think any of the new content will be that much more difficult. And I applaud the devs for adding a new elite setting. People are having trouble with it now, ok. But it's still in a testing phase (admitted one could say that about STO in general ) and most probably things are gonna get fine-tuned a lot in the nearer future. Plus, people are gonna get to understand the missions and adapt and things will become a lot easier. Plus there will be drops of MK XIII (and MXIV?) gear, so another reason to calm down a bit.
I haven't upgraded any of my personal items yet, and I don't plan to do anytime soon. I'll rather wait and see how it goes with my current setups. And like I said, I think it'll go just fine.
I am rather saddened by this. Geko, and his insatiable greed, have already made all but 2 of my ships unplayable, as I don't have the Millions of Dilithium required to upgrade them all to Mk XIV. Sure, there's some overlap, from reusable Vulnerability Locaters, Tachyo, Zero-Point, etc. But overall, I'm lucky to have retain 2 playable ships.
I'm sorry to say, but to me it sounds like it was your own greed that lead to your current personal distress. Had to have it all at once, obviously without thinking things through properly first. THIS is not Geko's fault, even though everything else probably is...
We went from like 37,800 Dil for a Mk XII Rep shield, to hundreds of thousands of Dilithium to get one to Mk XIV. And the sad part is that it would appear the latter will be required to do the Elites. So, just don't do Elites, right?! Wrong! If Cryptic makes it so that I can no longer play the game in full, effectively being excluded from certain areas, then I will do just that: stop play altogether.
Like I said, XII to XIII cost around 6k, so I gues that getting it from XIII to XIV will be somewhere around 10-15k. I really don't understand where you get your numbers from. o_O

Just because two words sound alike, its not the same. Trust is not the same as Thrust.
I was saying the same thing in that quote.
Back on topic, I don't think that you need fully upgraded gear to do the Elites. My reasoning being that you need to do the Elites to get the components to make the good Upgrade Tokens.
I'm not going to stoop to your level and claim to be Professor Know'it All, but I pretty much know enough about history that the word in question was used BEFORE a slur that sounds like it was even invented, or coined up.
The term niggardly was first used in the 16th century.
The slur sounding like it is from the 19th century. It existed before that, but than it was said spelled in a way that it did not resemble "niggardly."
Also, similar sounding does not mean anything. The word F**cker and Plucker differ only in two letters. Is saying plucker rude now?
Go back under that bridge.
I am thinking that buying fleet stuff and upgrading it to XIV will do.
Quality upgrades are loltooexpensive.
The level increases are expensive, but by far a smaller degree.
So it makes sense to get the high quality items and just level them up.
Sure they won't be ACCX4, but you won't need that for pve.
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.
All I am doing, is using the tech power boost they keep on giving us so far. Use that on my personal ground weapons of choice. I am not upgrading too much. Cost is too high, and my dilithium refining taking it's daily run. I have to do Elite Borg space battle runs get some of the task force rep gear I am looking at getting. 8472, Dyson and New Rom gear has it ups and down.
Alien Frankenstein Battleship with mix box of rep gear that actually does work together will travel into the DR when it starts. Tier 5 to Tier 5-U. Tier 6 lacks things I would consider needed. I guess they have standard limits on vessels.
Taking a break (on an off) until the DR finally hits my PC..
I wouldn't mind a challenging mode for dpsians, but Cryptic in their infinite wisdom desided that those new Elite queues reward things you don't get anywhere else, crafting mats for upgrade kits for example. This is highly confusing, as people would probably want to upgrade their stuff BEFORE they troll the Elite content.....
that's like saying what come first the chicken or the egg.
if you don't need the higher gear for normal or advanced then only play normal or advanced.
if you get the rewards in elite you need for the high end gear but can win without it to get the reward, why do you need the rewards for the high end gear.
and the players that this level is aimed at as I was speaking of earlier will probably want to play this level with the lowest level gear possible anyway.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Problem is, they made Advanced harder and reward less.
Also, their "harder enemy" is not more abilities and weapons, but more health and damage.
They could have rather given the borg for example access to torp spread, feedback pulse, aceton beam, or a load of other abilities.

Man, running Borg Space for Marks bites. Other than the first one that you do a day, you only get, like, seven Marks per run. I only just finished that Rep with Rommie Main and I still need enough to get the Adapted MACO for its Torpedo Boat.
I am looking forward to trying out the T6 just for the new LtCom/Com BOff Abilities. Giving a Torpedo Ignore Shields functionality and causing all Destructible Torps to focus on a single target regardless of who shot it sound great. Now those Cubes can take their own One-Hit Kill Torpedoes instead of me.
I have upgraded all my non rep stuff and it was quite cheap. Not even noticeable really.
I got lucky 3 or 4 times with UR. But I will not be playing the insane quality game.
The red raspberry is fine with me along with some fleet black raspberries.
I really and truly expect not to have any problem with elite content with my level 14 red and black raspberry equipment and my (very awesome) T5U ships.

Aaaah yes, that 1% that manages to ruin the game from time to time.
Even "Advanced mode" gets harder, and gives half rewards.
I for one say, F**k that! What's the point ? The Dilithium rewards will be a miniscule neligible niggardly* measily 480 dil for all the optionals needed, so why bother with Advanced? The effort required is too great for such a tiny small reward.
If I'll ever play an STF from now on, it will be normal once a day. The daily bonus mark crate is the only thing that any non elite STF will drop.
*Not related to racism, just to clear it up for those not well versed in proper English.
I think you have that the wrong way round.

Could have but where would they fit a borg space combat revamp along side the N number of new enemies they also have design? Its one thing to say "oh, they should just add X to Y and because I think its fine it'll all work out" but game designers can't take that approach. They have to test (yes, they do kids) rebalance and work out the details and that takes time and manpower which could otherwise be spent on new content (the NPC's for which ARE more capable.)
Damage sponging is a separate matter, to do with where they expect people to end up through the upgrade systems. Its a scaling problem, not an attempt to create more difficulty outright.

I don't do STFs and really don't care for the Elite gear. So I will still play and have tons of fun along the way. However for the ones who wants to play in that level. Yes it will be costly, but other games are just as bad as well for their stuff. To play at that level. It just the price you pay and to get you to come back to play so you can have it.
The Elites isn't for everyone so it will separate the causals from the gamers, and the hard cores.

Why is the latter a problem?
Cost prohibitive? Don't do it. There's not much more that needs to be said. The amount of elite content is small and it largely doesn't contain anything that isn't accessible in the other difficulties. And even in the case of THE exception, its not in any way a central part of DR.
You're complaining about mere exclusion. It doesn't matter what it is, its simply bad because it doesn't accommodate everyone, ie. you.

Personally I think it's an insult to all of the lifetime members of this game that pretty much put this game on the map especially when many of us paid several hundred dollars in Beta to get this game started when it was a sub only game.
They need to do right by the lifetime members Lifers should be getting Tier 6 ships or the ships they have should be upgraded. I can understand getting an officer for that slot, that's not an issue, I understand the need to get weapons that's not an issue for me but the fact that I have to as a lifetime member spend $125 to get one of the most iconic ships they've kept from us for the longest time, Dauntless, is beyond unacceptable at this point.
i was just going to say, there are a lot of players out there who never play todays elite, we never had them moaning that they never got the better rewards that current elites get and as far as I can see the same applies here.
I think players are worrying over nothing, play normal mode till it gets to easy then move up to advanced, this could take some players a week or a year or never at all.
if you have moved to advanced and after a while it gets to easy then move up to elite, this could take some players a week or a year or never at all.
will you be missing out if you are playing the same game in each mode, no you are not.

This type of exclusion, indeed, is not good. P2W models should be based on ppl *willing* to pay, as a choice, and not on asking a million Dilithium to upgrade a single wep to Gold Epic Mk XIV, so that really only 1% of the playerbase can even afford it.
Like I said, I did 1 full ship to Ultra Rare Mk XIII, for the heck of it. But I've already decided the buck stops there. No Gold Epic Mk XIV for me. So, no Elites either, it would seem.
Honestly, I think they're making a bad business decision here. Like I said, P2W models work on getting ppl to spend money they have: not on pushing the mark so far out of anyone's normal budget, that none but a handful of ppl can afford it.
normal = todays normal
advanced = todays elite
dr elite = the hardest mode you can get and then a little harder.
but it hard to make out with the coloured text for us colour blinds, wish people would stick to normal text colour.
Let me correct it.
normal = todays normal, but half dilithium reward
advanced = todays elite that now needs optionals too to succeed, and gives as much dil as current normal.
dr elite = the hardest mode you can get and then a little harder. Gives as much dil as the current elite.
So this is a huge nerf to dil income and making content harder.
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.

I really like this advice. It makes sense. The only problem is the Super superior crafting materials in elite, combined with the desire to be leeeet.
I for one am excited to see the new elite. I'll be away for a few days but the first thing I will do when I get back is Infected elite. That should be a good benchmark.

1. Veteran ships get a free T5-U upgrade
2. The Dauntless is not an iconic ship (by any definition of the word "icon." It was in one episode of voyager for a total amount of screentime of perhaps 1 minute 30 seconds, IF THAT. It had no lasting impact on the series, or on the franchise except for having existed in it.)
3. You do NOT have to spend $125 to get the dauntless. The DR ops pack is a cost saving bundle, it [as far as we know] does not contain ANY exclusives. Save your dil, save your stipend, and you won't have to spend a dime for the content you think you deserve.

there wont be much left of the game if everybody plays that way

and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Notable missions: Apex [AEI], Gemini [SSF], Trident [AEI], Evolution's Smile [SSF], Transcendence
Looking for something new to play? I've started building Foundry missions again in visual novel form!
there wont be much left of the game if everybody plays that way
So gird your wallets, pay out for that dill, or grind out maximum amount of toons for dil.
And the greatly nerfed dilithium rewards. A resource already very scarce. OF course I know this is a plot to force players to buy zen and use it to get dilithium.
If all these sinks are the cost of hiring all these actors:
PLEASE STOP HIRING THEM CRYPTIC!!!!!
