I had a T2 Cruiser that was named Tacoma.
Irony? I LIVE in that city.
Kept the name, and even transfered it and the registry number to my Exeter refit, even though I'm a VA.

Yes, that's the official Tacoma demonym... Tacoman. Tacoman. Try to read it without laughing and thinking about a taco with legs.

most ironic default ship name i have ever seen was my buddies jem Hadar dreadnought carrier, named the Nanking.
seeing as it is highly inappropriate to name a ship full of pwnage after a city with a history like Nanking, (look it up and prepare to be depressed at humanity) we changed the name to Nanchang, (considered a city of hero's and birthplace of the of the Chinese peoples liberation army).
honestly I'm surprised a slip up like this would make it into a Chinese owned MMO
I bought a Tuffli that came named USS Japan. I am sure I will be banned for racism or somesuch considering the PC wankers who play STO and the ****e for brains moderators.
I know it is the name of a Mecixn City, but the fact it is also the name of a tiny, annoying dog for that of a Galaxy-class dredaought was too ironic not to share.
That isn't irony. That's just chance, seeing as starships and toy-sized dogs don't have any expectations that are contrasted with one another.
Just in the off-chance you're being serious, Chihuahua is the name of a state in Mexico.
The same name exhibited in the OP.
This is 100% correct.

OP makes a comment about a ship being named USS Chihuahua.... I made a comment about it not being unusual for ships to be named after states..... the poster after made a comment about looking at a map of Mexico..... reason being that Chihuahua is the name of a State in Mexico.
Ah, the humor impaired. Sorry for you guys. Guess I didn't use enough emoticons.

Based on this lovely running gag from MST3K, I rolled a toon by the name of Rip Manslab. I then claimed my TOS Connie from the C-Store to begin his adventure. My fated ship's name?
USS Manchester.
I have kept that name and registry across all his ships to date.

Ah, Tacoma... the town you can smell as you rush past towards Seattle. LOL

I have family in Tacoma... never visited them.
That's a bit of a base canard - the famed Aroma of Tacoma faded with the decommissioning of the Asarco Smelter. Although sometimes the pulp mills down by the docks can get a tad redolent...

Yes! I have seen the little dog names come up. I tend to click on the "Random" button just to see what will come up.
What I tend to end up doing is going on the internet and doing searches for "cool ship names" or "names of weapons" as most of my ships have names like Gunstar, Longsword, or Stormbringer.
I've been going a bit Cthulhu crazy as of late. Maybe I should start renaming some of my ships after that mythos, like RRW Dagon, Nylathartep, or even a Scimitar called R'lyeh or even Dread Cthulhu!
Ok. No more rambling. I'm revealing too much already :P

That's a cool idea.
For my Fed Engineer, I used the names of scientists involved in the Manhatten project. (Particularly of scientists in the team not so well known - Konopinskij was the name of my Star Cruiser...)

I agree. Names of ancient astronomers and other historical figures is one of the best naming conventions out there. It serves to remind us of our accomplishments that seem to dim over time. I like going into the 'net and wikis to see just what certain individuals whose names have been given to spacecraft are now famous for. Esoteric trivia is something I love. Or the Devil is in the Details. Good on ya Mustrum!

all of my toons are thematic as far as th ships names go.
Deety is named after the character from heinlein, and all of the ship names are barsoom/mars related
another is Kamehameha, and his ships are all geological landmarks of Hawai'i.
now I am sure that the ship I have seen were contrived and not RNG, but I have seen the Dolphin on an Intrepid class, Rusty on a Odyssey (when the ship was first introduced) and Target on a BOP
It's not really funny or anything but the only somewhat odd name I ever got that comes to mind was what my Orion Engineer's Fleet Corsair which came out with the name Thothomo.
Which I suppose if you pronounce the name in a certain way...

I think that a better question is what were they going to do with her head? Like stick it on a post and pretend that they are Romanian?
I was thinking the Snow Queen, but you can take your pick. I honestly haven't seen the Danish dub.
It should enter a PvP Match against Uranus.
