Weird or ironic default ship names

prierinprierin Member Posts: 7 Arc User
Ever purchase a new ship, looked at the name and thought ‘is this a joke, STO?’

Last night I purchased a Galaxy X Dreadnaught… default name, the USS Chihuahua.

Needless to say, I kept it..

It's not uncommon for ships to be named after states.

I've had some that set the tone for a char. My female fed tac's first ship token resulted in a ship named "Venus". Mythological figures became her theme for ship names...Aphrodite, Hera etc.

I named my engi's Oddly " Uranus". I'm figuring that's certain +threat generation if I ever PVP with it. Lesser, previous ships were also planet names...the first came with "Pluto" so obviously I had my theme...I saved Uranus for last

Remember my first Escort ship (Sabre) I got for my levelling Feddy called the "U.S.S. Escort". Myeah it got the point across fairly well I suppose.

This. Look at a state map of Mexico, people.

You have some kind of problem with Mexico?

I think the op was commenting on the humor of a dreadnaught with the same name as a breed of miniature yappy lap dogs.

Just in the off-chance you're being serious, Chihuahua is the name of a state in Mexico.

The same name exhibited in the OP.

    This is 100% correct.

I know it is the name of a Mecixn City, but the fact it is also the name of a tiny, annoying dog for that of a Galaxy-class dredaought was too ironic not to share. :)

I got a galaxy X that came with the name U.S.S. Archangel. Thought that was fairly awesome and didn't change it to my normal MLP theme.

OP makes a comment about a ship being named USS Chihuahua.... I made a comment about it not being unusual for ships to be named after states..... the poster after made a comment about looking at a map of Mexico..... reason being that Chihuahua is the name of a State in Mexico.

I've had a few odd/ironic names from time to time. I usually get a small chuckle and then change it, like I was going to anyway.

Not being from the USA, the USS Crazy Horse has always been a standout in terms of weird names. I kind of wait for them to announce the arrival of her sister ship, the Mad Cow.

In terms of odd, or perhaps just out-and-out inane names, an alt has just got a Saber Class vessel named the USS Star. Maybe I should rename it, USS Ship.

I once got a ship named USS Copenhagen.

Thats the capital of denmark, my home country...

Needless to say I was embarrassed, and quickly changed the name.

I have a problem with the guy who thought that a Rat was a dog, and put it into the "Dog" category...
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

lol yeah I know, but it's not something non-USA students get taught about. So the first I ever heard of it was, "Captain's Log: Admiral Bad'News is arriving on the USS Crazy Horse..."

There are also a lot of USA students that don't learn about it. I know that at my old school, it was only covered in the Advanced Placement class.

Speak for your own country... I and my class learned about the early American history, as part of the "Cross-cultural understanding" required in all language classes.

One toon hit Lt Cdr, so he got his Tier 3 ship, a cruiser - randomly named USS Cruiser. Gets the point across.

And now I have to use the names Mad Cow and Pomeranian - probably for an Oddy ('cause it handles like a cow with the shakes, and can get pretty mad) and some variety of escort (agile, and vicious all out of proportion to its size...).

Well we don't need to learn US history in England, our classes are full up with having more than 500 years of history :P.

Our education system believes that to understand a language, you need to understand the culture behind it... I tend to agree, but since England is a core part of US history up untill the point where you got your butts kicked ( :D ) I can see how it becomes less relevant to you guys.

Also, danish history has somewhere around 2000 years of more-or-less recorded history... We used to be cool and awesome... and big...

    Then Copenhagen became our capital...

You should see Prague after our students were there 2 years ago... Names were the least of their problems after that...

Did'n exactly feel welcome there when I went to DrupalCon... Had to do some damage control everywhere I went.

Drat, I was thinking of the discovery of America, I meant more than ~238 years (I.e. how long the US has existed).

Nar-nar we have more history than you :P.

Still we only really cover European, British, and North African history here.
