Excelsior doesn't NEED anything. Heck I fleet member who now flies regularly the excel. the ship is fine it's the Galaxy that needs love. that's the point I making. the Excel is among the best cruisers in game.
All discussion of the Galaxy and what it needs should really take place in the proper thread. It's not really relevant to this thread you know? So even though I agree that the Galaxy needs some work, it's probably best discussed in its own thread, which is a super popular thread so it'll get noticed there.
Now, onto the Excelsior. You say that it is "among the best" cruisers in the game. Since that suggests it is not clearly the best cruiser in the game, I think there's room for improvement. I bet Al Rivera feels the same way.

But she shouldn't BE the best though. As much as i like her she is by STO a 100 year old design. She should be on the verge of retirement.
I agree that the Excelsior needs very little, except maybe adding missing destinations to the transwarp drive.
Turns well for a cruiser? Check.
Non-useless TAC seating? Check.
Gorgeous ship model with plenty of customization (nacelles lit, unlit)? Check.
Gimmick console is built in so it doesn't waste a ship slot (in the retrofit)? Check. To be fair, this can be bad too - you have to buy the T3 if you want the console for another ship.
All this in a ship you can fly at Level 40 for 2000 Zen? It outperforms some ships you have to wait to 50 to fly.
So yeah, maybe update the transwarp drive. I personally wouldn't mind an Excelsior interior pack as well - but that's just me - the ship sailed on interiors a long time ago apparently.
I agree the Excelsior is the best ship in game. It is my most favorite ship in game. I have tried different ships and always go back to the old Excelsior. I wish you could put heavy cannons on it, but that's a dream.
Fleet Admiral of the U.S.S. ATTILA KHAN-CDA (NX-921911).
Just look at the ship itself, it looks gorgeous IMO.
EDIT:
I changed it a bit.
Now look at it and honestly tell me it looks bad... LINK

I'm with admiralq, I think if the neck was brought forward to form one long line front the top of the neck to the end of the ship, the back end was made a bit thicker and the nacelles made more like the old ones (ie flat and the top level with the top of the saucer) then I might endorse it.
No, really, the original hull has no place in 2410, though the outline of the class needs to stay. Visually, we already have most of the components we would need for a 2410 version.
Yoink the nacelles off of the Regent (possibly a modified version of the pylons for that class), the saucer off the Tempest once you fill in the center with normal saucer to account for taking the center hull out, the general outline of the original and refit Excelsior style hull, and a neck more inspired by the Regent/general 2410 design pattern. It'd look pretty snappy.
Ensign universal would be neat, but would make it *more* powerful (seriously, the majority of users would make it tactical - you know who you are ).
Why would we do that, though? The Excelsior is where it is precisely because of the no-longer-superfluous Third Engi. Using that spot as a Tac would just make it a statistically inferior clone of the Avenger, since done that way, the Avenger has better turn and better weapon choices.

I have to agree that using the ensign for tac would be bad but there is nothing wrong with using it for sci, one never knows when an ensign or LT sci power could come in handy.
Actually Excelsior has higher base hull than Avenger there(37,500 on Avenger compared to 39000 on Excelsior) Though I would really love an Interior like the Excelsior had in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Basically any of those Star Trek 1-6 movie interiors would be very nice to have.
The workhorse of the Federation is long overdue for a Retrofit. From experimental trans-warp to diplomatic missions, the Excelsior has more then lived up to the expectations of Starfleet Captains everywhere, I would hope the Devs take a look at her and see that the next gen of that class could do.
I have been flying the Excelsior since she was released and I entirely disagree.

right, the feds have arguably the best battlecruiser in there whole fleet. albeit the ships older then dirt. An people want it made Over powered. Your ship already comes with full cruiser commands has a fab turn rate. and can take you everywhere you want to go with a transwarp drive that rarely fails. Yeah.... Like Dr. Evil once said," How about NO !!". Nyet, denied. Why that ship is even a T5 sip and complete with a fleet variant is still largely laughable. That it can not only hold it's own quite well and has an already super boff layout. An this isn't enough for you fed scrubs, you want a hanger added to it too ? Gee why not give it a gal x styled Spinal lance complete with a special unique damage type that bypasses shields, and auto crits for a min damage of 75k and has a 30 second cooldown while were at it. Then we'll balance it by saying ohh sorry No tac boff powers like faw or beam overload will further increase the deeps . It's bad enough the new T6 ships coming in are already going to add to the increasing and never ending power creep. But this is just amusing.
Least when the KDF folks actually have intelligent and useful requests for a ship to be buffed. They have a legit beef to request it. But since cryptic loves to spoon feed everything to the feds minus a I win button. You feds prolly will get your 100+ year old battlecruiser buffed up some more with some special hanger , and increase to turn rate and more hull and stronger shields. And prolly bump every boff seat up one full rank . While the kdf get the short end of the stick as usual and the romulans getting the best looking ships in game. Gotta love status quo.
You know... one person suggested a hanger bay... the thread seems to be about a new skin... and most people taking about a buff just want to change a boff seat...
I have nothing against the KDF getting buffs or new ships, in fact I'd welcome it if they did but... there is no need to rage over one post in one thread like that...

Almost every ship is getting an update in X2. Just wait till October.
My god. I log off for an evening and everyone is going insane. :P
In canon I speculate the Excelsior is probably already "retired" and any ships left in service are in use until they expire by whatever universal forces work against it.
In game, live long and prosper. T6 treatment or not, it does not matter to me

Personally I don't see why they would scrap the most successful design in starfleet history even in canon, I would expect them to take the design back to the development stage and as themselves "Okay, how can we remodel the interior and systems to bring them up to date?" build a few test ships and eventually decide on a new line of Excelsiors and mass produce them.
I'd agree with that idea. Heck, I'd support it to explain STO's continued use of the ship.
Yet, in the HC thread there was mention about the Galaxy class introducing a new line of ship design (or something like that) with the Sovereign showing another design ethos. Removing STO forward timeline, then I would actually agree with that idea as well. Thus, the Excelsior really *is* an old design that, although VERY successful, would be rested eventually.
I mean, even the '63 Corvette Coupe (arguably Chevrolet's most popular 'Vette' design other than the '70 ZR-1 or '67 LT-1) got ... old.

Ok. The thread was dancing on blasphemy and has jumped to heresy.

Excelsior is fine.

No, but they could bring in the Curry as a flight deck ship
I'd buy THAT for a dollar!!!!
Retrofit? I think you mean Retirement. It's an old ship. It has little reason to be a T5 ship in the first place if we go by age for capability.
