EDIT - I've shared my displeasure with the BOff seating here and elsewhere, yet I finally drilled down why ... it's actually not the seats themselves but with the Engineering abilities available at the BOff choices this ship forces me to use. So, really, it's my own hang-up that cannot be defended well.
Also, since the date of my own revelations, I have researched ways around that "problem" and have developed a build (with a lot of help from this fine community) that makes the ship extremely playable to my style.
The only thing the Excelsior needs is an update for the transwarp locations and to be upgradeable to a full T6 once Delta Rising hits holodeck.
Other than that, it doesn't need anything. I'm a cruiser afficionado and I own all the cruisers in this game. I'm telling you, to me the Excelsior is hands down the best cruiser in the game.
You may not like how it looks, but everything about this ship in game is perfect. It's stats and layouts are fine-tuned to a pure perfection. To me it's also one of the most fun ships to play.
Absolutely no need to mess around with this ship, it can't get any better - they can only make it worse by tinkering. And please drop the stupid idea that every ship needs a hangar, there's no way in hell I'm sacrificing 2 crusier commands for that TRIBBLE.

This, this, this and this again.
And on the A2B note, it is NOT needed to make the Excel good.
You can use fighters on the Excelsior. You can use any type of fighter in the device slots. Look at the Scorpion Fighters from the Vault, those can be used there. The cooldown sucks but it works.

As a long time Excelsior/Fleet Excelsior owner, the only things I would like to see are the Transwarps updated and a 2410 skin option. It would be grade for some kind of Tier 6 option but I won't hold my breath.
You will really enjoy the tier 5 version. I have been using it for 2 years and I don't fly anything else. Love this ship.
That's pretty much why I'm all for the idea of improving the Excelsior at T6. It's a fan favorite ship. And so I don't want to see it left behind by the coming expansion.
Above someone mentioned that it wouldn't crack their top 10 list of ships to improve. Right now, with only 5 tiers, I'd agree.
But all bets are off with the expansion and the introduction of T6. All T5 ships make the top "whatever" list of ships that need to be improved. Because these are all ships people like to fly. And want to fly at T6.
Well, I think it will depend on what "T6" means. Extra console or device slot, more hull or shield, extra weapon slots, etc. Even with one of those suggestions, the Excelsior could probably stay T5 and still be 'viable" or "competitive". T6 would just make it easier, yet it wouldn't be necessary in my opinion because the ship is already superior (ref: outclassing the Odyssey above comment, which may just be opinion [ref: Gawain build]).
I have a wait-and-see approach. But I doubt I'll waver from the ship no matter what happens in E2. Partly out of stubbornness to use the ship, another part doubting E2 will make any ship utterly obsolete beyond their current status.
I think that any new tier 6 ship is going to have a lower hull amount since the new ships introduced have had lower hull numbers. I would be very happy with a extra console slot, extra device slot, or even a new skin for the old workhorse. Any way you look at it, we have just under two months to see.

Go Excelsior!

The excelsior included.
That's all I'm really thinking of here. T6.
