Those Tron ships look absolutely hideous. Isn't this supposed to be Star Trek?

At least make the ships look like they belong in Starfleet.

I must be the only one who isn't terribly concerned with the t6 announcement.

It's no surprise to me that gear and ships are going to be upgraded with a level cap increase. This was seen when the level cap was raised before (to a degree). Having played many other MMOs this mechanic is familiar to me. A new expansion is released, the level cap is increased, new higher level content is introduced, and new gear for that new content. It happens pretty much all the time in MMOs. Why would this be any different?

I have a bunch of lockbox ships, several Cstore ships, a few fleet ships, so if they make T5 ships obsolete (which I doubt they will be), I will either upgrade mine, or get a t6 ship. I got those ships with the understanding that I would probably be upgrading it at some point. None of those ships comes with a label that guarantees it will be good forever. They are good for T5 content, and I expect they will work just fine for T6 content.

To me, the ships, weapons, consoles, etc. are just gear. It's just like a sword, armor, and miscellaneous gear in other games. New content comes out, and I will need to upgrade to that Sword+2 or whatever because my sword+1 doesn't cut it any more. I look at my ship as well as the weapons and consoles the same way. It's gear that will need to be upgraded. At least here, you don't have the steep gear vs content curve that you see in other games, where not having the right gear can be punishing and can even exclude you from being able to do certain content (hello gear scores).

My only real concern is for the KDF. The KDF gets shafted at pretty much every opportunity. I want to know if the KDF will finally get it's Dreadnaught (the Vo'quv doesn't count). Is the KDF just going to get just one of each ship type and Cryptic calls it done? Or will Cryptic give the factions something within screaming distance of parity. Having to shell out for extra fleet modules for a fleet ship because Cryptic can't get around to filling out the holes in the KDF's roster, because they are busy putting the touches on all the paint schemes for another ship the Federation doesn't need, is not just annoying but frustrating. I would like to see new KDF ships that fill out the line up so KDF players don't get completely shafted.

You know what I can't wait to get my hands on a tier 6 ship. STO is set in the future and its ony right that all faction ships get an update and upgrade.

I want to see a sleeker looking Defiant, the Enterprise G, A more terrifying D'deridex and a more streamlined Klingon bird of prey.

This move is going to be great for players because its more than a game its a hobby. something you put your heart and soul in to over time so that you can better what you have. its going to take a while to get there but that's the point of having a hobby its no good to you if you finish it all in 5 minutes.

Its also going to be good for the game because its going to put a shed load of money in to it. which means more actor voice overs, more content, improved graphics, sounds and visuals, bringing in new talent that can make them game better. But more important over anything else I've mentioned A stronger placement within the gaming world that's going to plant STO strongly on A map that says "We're going to be around for a long time"

I want to be playing STO till the day I die and this move and other ideas like this will insure that happens.

I understand people have paid money and time in to ships and gear and now they feel it was for nothing. I have spent lots of money on lock boxes, c-store ships, c-store items, and ship modules. Am I upset? No because I had so much fun. And just when I thought theirs no where else to go along comes T6 ships right when i need something new to spend my money on and I can't f-ing well wait.

To all the Devs I say this. Your doing just fine.

The Tron lines are only part of the ugg puzzle. The weird polygonal-flat nacelles and bizarre saucer shapes are the other part. It looks like Tronstar Galactiwars, not Star Trek.

They just flat don't have any of the design aesthetics we've come to expect for Human/Starfleet ships. Now if they wanted to hand-wave that one design as - say - a Bolian/Benzite/Whatever designed ship then fine.

It is good to get new ships. No matter what. But do they really have to be Tier 6? I dont think so.

No matter if you can bring Tier 5 ships close to Tier 6 thes will not be a 100% match so, we can argue about this but it is just a fact that all Fleet and c-store ships won´t be first class but only second or third class after a few lockbox ships. so those who worked hard and earned their fleet ship/-s to be top of the line would have to start again to be at the top. And i assume that ther will not be a Sovereign or Akira related Tier 6 class like the REgent or Armitage so some of the iconic ships would be gone sooner or later.

Is there a reason for Tier 6 ships? No, because we currently have no enemies that require Tier 6 ships to fight them. New enemies can be created with the same stats ar we have now (Tac Cube in Kithomer Vortex is quite strong). So the enemies would have to get stronger too and we would have a status quo again.

So new ships, yes please, always. But Tier 6 no. And i am not even talking about the Ships systems that would be outdated (Doing that in the other thread)

So the 50 dollars people spent on ships like the Odyssey, the Tempest, Vesta Package, etc is going down the drain overnight when these 'T6' ships launch.

I hope theyre ready for the serious backlash thats coming with this announcement. I wont begrudge anyone that walks away from this game or flips **** because of this.

Actually, I'm thinking of walking when the above scenario becomes reality. Not only do I not appreciate my many ~$150 RL Dollar worth of lockbox ships being obsoleted overnight, along with all my other 40+ ships, but Cryptic is such a lazy/lousy company, they have yet to fix the (very serious) bug of discharging ships causing ALL your previously installed ships to get ALL their stations/loadouts fubarred. So, couldn't even get upgraded versions of them if I wanted to.

What really conserns me and i dont think this aspect have been covered yet, is the resource cost of upgrading our existing t5/t.5.5 ships. It might be all and well that we can upgrade our existing t5/5.5 ships to a competible level with the t6 ships, but what do you guys think about the likely fact that dilithium/zen (ie a real world currency tie-in) could be involved. This would effectivly mean that you would have to pay for all of the ships you have already bought once again.

I still remember the debacle that followed the splitting up of many of the zenstore fed ships in to seperate t3/t5 variants of the same ships, including for example the nebula and excelsior. In that case too we had to pay a hand and foot to get the ships we in reality already payed for once.

If might be the late hour but my weird brain is coming up with some pretty horrific reasons for the lack of more info, such as:

Cryptic employees trying to resurrect Mark Valentine with tricorders to have him finish the X2 trailer .

Or in keeping with tradition, they are hording all the upsetting info until October, as per tradition we need to be upset when they release something .

Or how long until into T.6 before they pull out the T.6.5 version of the Scimi ?

    I need some sleep ! :)

My biggest worry is the Lock Box ships they upgraded them back with season 7.
I hope they do the same again automatically.
Lots of people paid big bucks and grinded heavily to get one or more.
If all the existing become second class ships, their economy tanks overnight.
If you think people got upset and left the game over the traits.
Let's see how many people part ways when their big dollar investments get nerfed.

Yes in the Q&A - Al Rivera did say you could upgrade them to be competitive - BUT - and he was pretty excited when he said that you would "want to buy the new T6 ships because of all the new powers and abilities that ONLY the new Tier 6 ships will have"

So as it stands right now - the new Tier 6 ships will be like a new car released - they have new powers/features that the older models don't get.

And yet.... I have a feeling the T6 powers will be like the gimmick consoles. With a power that can only be used every 3 minutes. IF the upgraded Fleet/Lockbox ships can be made competitive by getting more stats to compensate for what are likely to be largely useless gimmick powers I´m all for that. The flipside of course is that T6 ships may turn out to be the new Warbirds. Because yeah... warbirds are totally balanced against other ships.... yeah...

I guess it really depends on how much Cryptic needs us to buy new ships all over again.

Like I said, I, for one, would find that scenario unacceptable. Cryptic better take heed:

    1) Finally fix the fubarrring of the tray layout/loadouts upon discharging of a ship already (it's been years: stop being so lazy). That way, at least, we'll be able to make room for the new ships.

    2) Don't invalidate my old lockbox ships (I have many). And don't ask $2,500 Zen per upgrade either.

Honestly, Cryptic really better think this one thru. Nerfing my traits was one thing: invalidating all my lockbox ships overnight (or making it ridiculously expensive to upgrade them, tantamount to effectively buying new ships), is of quite another magnitude.

And maybe they already have a plan. At which point it's high time a dev actually stepped in with some clarifications (that have been grossly absent so far).

Come on all you doom Sayers, we haven't even seen a t6 ship or heard how to make a t5 or 5.5 ship an equivalent. Considering it is being said that the t6 ships will have new powers, its just going to be an expansion of the system of the ship specialty trays system put in a few months ago. The devs may allow a way to customize your t5.5 ship as you like to some degree to make it balance out to a t6 ship. I can't wait to see the t6 ships, just as how I can't wait to see how I can upgrade the fleet defiant, fleet excelsior and vesta class ships that my toons fly. the increase of the level cap and the captain specialization will help keep the game from getting stagnant.
The only free thing I would honestly hope for would be a free ship slot to try out the t6 ships with and if there are the new bridge officers from the delta quad, 2 free additional bridge officer slots.

Honestly I have so many ships across so many toons even 100 zen is to much, we already paid for our ships once, some up to 3 times. Aka the Akira/Excel/Nebula T3 T5 and Fleet. Asking us to pay a 4th time will equal a huge "Go f*ck yourself" from me. If we have to pay for our upgrades ill stick with the ships I already have.

Honestly unless we have to have 200,000 hull and shields for T6 content my T3s could probibly handle cryptics new content. And I have to ask, of the T5 ships that dont have fleet versions but have cstore versions that means you can go straight to T6 compeditive stats? Or do you have to buy a fleet version first?

Think about it, if we don't need a fleet version to go up to T6 stats, all Fleet ships become completely pointless. Even more so if there is no cost for upgrading. This whole deal is a huge f*ck up when you think about it.

So either we have to pay for upgrades to keep fleet ships from being a waste and it pisses off the players who have to pay again for ships they already own, or its free and fleet ships are then wtfpointless and it pisses off people who already paid for them.

Why do we even need T6? Our ships are already stupid powerful, last thing we need is stronger ships with more useless junk gimicks like the DSD. Real reason Cryptic needs T6 ships is cause they ran out of Boff configs, and new ships arent selling as well as expected. So they need new tier for more layout options, and gimicks, and are trying to make our old ships junk so that T6 are much better.

They were better off redoing the whole ship system so we could construct our own layouts, and just sell ship chassis with basic stats of hull/shield/turnrate. Instead we get this pile of TRIBBLE idea.

Did I already post in this thread? Whatever. If there is a new type of Bridge Officer type, it could be the new ships are the only ones that have those? If they sacrifice BO slots for other abilities, they could still be balanced against ships that don't have these powers, unless the new BO is far more powerful than anything we already have.

All of the ships I have I got from the game by either leveling up or grinding dilithium. I do not have any fleet ships. Currently I have 2 guys using the Risian Luxury Cruiser, one is using the dyson science destroyer you get from the event and the other 3 are using ships that you get from leveling up. I don't feel underpowered to any other ship out there when I play. And I have fun. Nor do I expect my tier 1 ships to be on par with tier 5 ships. Nor do I get upset about it. Nor do I feel like anything is need to be changed about this. And I will outfit all of my ships with the best gear I can get and have fun with them at various different times.

I just really think that people should just get over this T6 thing and just embrace progression in an MMO, like every other MMO out there.

They will have new abilities, sure, but most likely just as useful as most of the special consoles from the C-Store ships - nice to have but not necessary.

Like the features on new cars, you get more things that can fail... and get nerfed.

Try to keep in mind that there is 2-3 MONTHS before Delta Rising goes live. We are not talking about a week or two here. You have a ton of time for them to put Blogs up before you ever need to worry about using it. There is no "last minute TRIBBLE" because we are still 2-3 MONTHS away from Launch. :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

This blog should have been posted immediately after the STLV event, not 5 days later.

Also, this blog is nothing but a condensed repeat of info anyone who comes to the forums already know. No new info at all.

Cryptic should really hire someone that comprehends public relations at a professional level.

This I agree with. It should have been up 1 minute after the STLV panel was completed.

It is important to understand that the vast majority of people who play STO do not post on this forum. So while that might be old news to you to many others it is the first they are probably hearing about the upcoming Expansion - especially since it is on the Launcher now.

The STO world does not center around the couple of thousand people who come here. :)

And as I said above, we still have 2-3 months to get all the details before the Expansion goes live.
