This 9.5 update is horrible. I first of all have loved most of the new content added but this is the dumbest update and it wasn't even needed. I have to totally start my crafting over, they really thought this was a good idea??? This crafting setup stinks bad its totally TRIBBLE. I wont be leveling my crafting again and if my crafting isn't set back to max thinking Ill find another game to play. No one asked for this ands no one likes it.
Wasn't this why we wanted D'Angelo gone the last time?! Can we find Stahl and whatever he's working on and get him back again?

I disagree on one point: the die-hard fanboys in the "DOOOM" thread would never take issue with anything Cryptic does.
I'm not feeling this mid season update at all. The new P2C system is a bit much, the loss of existing content was not needed and the lack of any new missions does nothing but add to my disappointment with 9.5.
Can it truly be called 9.5 because it feels like we took steps backwards not forwards with this update.
I've been on a bit of a break from STO and was hoping to get back in to it with this update but I guess I'll have to wait for expansion 2.... oh well.

Now now, this isn't Pay to Craft, this is Paying to do Reputation. Because this isn't crafting at all.

I'd actually have to say 9.5 was generally successful. Season 7... now that one could have been a lot better. The introduction of the Rep system, how unfriendly it was to alts, and breaking some accolades for some characters that wasn't fixed for at least a year... that was I would have to say was the worst.

I don't think Season 9.5 is awesome. But I don't think it's terrible, either.
Not because 9.5 is particularly great, mind you.
But because there have been some real doozies previously that make 9.5 look good in comparison.

But were those bad because they were buggy, or bad because they chopped off a good chunk of content like this one?
Bugs I can (kinda) forgive. Removing star clusters and diplomacy I can't. There are very few times I can think of where an MMO actually removed content, and none of them ended well.
DOFF UI? I don't know what the problem with that is, save for the choosing alternative DOFF needs to be done a lot better, but it's not soul crushing
R & D? From what little I did earlier today, I thought it was quite fun. It's going to take me awhile, but I'm going to enjoy it.
Are people going to act like total drama queens because their precious is taken away? Of course.
DOFF UI:
Just imagine if I bring an update to Windows 8. The traditional desktop icons is 50% bigger than before, and you can't adjust it.
Your explorer folder is sorted only by names, but, you can't hide, search or sort by other kinds of sorting.
Copy and Replacing files/folders, you can choose either replace all or replace one-by-one prompt.
RnD:
I remove the breadcrumbs/ links and access of folder (you can only view the icons). You will have to type the address and hoping that the address is correct.
I am a F2P, but thankfully, still am, not paying something which isn't of good quality. The update isn't quite gentle, it's steeper.
Plus, the DOFA is where players earn easy dilithium and EC, even the RnD (EC only).
DOFF UI:

You can adjust it. After massive hatred of Windows 8, they gave you an option to choose the Win-8 layout and the classic windows.
The question is if Cryptic will do the same for us. Will they be stubborn and say "suck it" like they usually do? (I still won't forgive them for the Revamped Engineering Icons and giving the middle finger to the colorblind players). Will they give us a choice to choose which UI we like? Or will they revert?
Every season has had its ups and downs, but the past ones gave me something to enjoy playing albeit, not for too long. This one is a long clicky grind with a badly designed interface. I 've had to explain how crafting works to people that play this daily because it's that bad.
Crafting and Exploration Clusters were two things in the game that were easily missed. If you asked people if they did crafting or exploration, then some would wonder what exploration and crafting and most of the others would say have never touched crafting or its been a long time since they did it. Exploration Clusters got more use, but it was just for the dilithium daily and few would have said it was fun content.
Now everyone is talking about these two features of the game that almost everyone overlooked. This thread screams to me that it is just like the Playoffs. Few people showed any real support before the Playoffs like displaying their support for their favourite team with Pennants on their cars and other forms of support before the Playoffs, but people fly the team's logo when their team is in the playoffs. Lots of players didn't care about Exploration and Crafting before Season 9.5 and now they act as if they cared about them all along.
And let's not forget season 4, which focused on improving ground combat. Nobody I know uses the revamp b/c you're at a disadvantage for being able to miss a target. Plus, that season broke the previous season's focus (foundry) in a legendary way.
At least this season didn't break the last one.
Also, I'm not sure 9.5 even counts as a season, really. Crafting, a lock box, and uniforms. Those are the highlights.
I am just speculating, that Cryptic will probably save any, and all actual FE content for actual season numbers like, 10/11/12/13/etc..., and fill other updated stuff during the half seasons.
Season 9.5 the worst? Nope. We've had a lot lot worse.

This 9.5 cannot be any worse than seasons 2 thru 7. (Season 1 I wasn't here for but its pretty much well known of its problems lol)
Pretty much if you can log into the game within a week of launch its not even in contention to be the worst lol. My only gripe right now is I can't find a listing of what crafting materials for very rares drop in their prospective missions. I am level 15 in projectiles I just need to farm for the very rares for what I wanted out of the system lol.

Like what? We have had some majorly unsmooth launches in the past but this half way season point was a disaster, ruined a perfectly good UI, plenty of bugs for so little added, and removed of more content than it added.

What do you say to this, really? I am a LTS and have spent my fair share of money on ships and other things like a lot of us have. I think honestly I am starting to regret the money I have spent on this game. I am by no means wealthy but like most people I would skip a pizza or just not go see the random movie from time to time and get this or that in game. You can honestly track how greedy PWE/Cryptic has gotten with this game and all there games with each season.
Season 9.5 was flushable trash. I was on Tribble testing the new R&D and like a lot of us on Tribble we told them it was trash, we told them the Doff system was trash, we told them taking away the clusters with all the missions was just a stupid idea. LIke a lot of you my crafting was maxed out and I never touched it because it was vendor trash. This new R&D is a vast hole of time, resources, dilith, Doff's and random vendor trash. I heard a few people call it Rep Crafting and that's pretty much what it is. Star Trek and the people who play this game deserve better honestly.
DOFF UI pre 9.5 RIP .... DOFF UI 9.5 why, no one asked for this why would you spend the money on this and then end up taking content away from us. Its honesty feels like not only did we lose the Clusters but the DOFF system as well. Yes its still there but lacking in feel and input to the point that reminds me of the old BBS days and playing those 2 choice games, left or right, up or down.... but yet they were more fun then the new DOFF set up and more controllable.
More lock boxes O joy .... I know I WILL NOT be rushing out to get any keys now because the powers in the new ship are pretty much the same DPS wise as every other lock box ship. Honestly stop the coming up with TRIBBLE and put CONTENT in the game.
Uniforms.... really but I guess they are there and that is more then I can say for the content in this season.
Honestly PWE/Cryptic we pay you. Everyone that ever spend a dime on this game has paid for you to do what you do and I can see a lot of your games are becoming like our beloved Star Trek. How long do you people think you will have jobs if we just stop buying. Please listen to us! Let us help you save this game so you do not make everyone regret the investments we have made.
2 and 3 certainly was not bad. Season 4 was a major disaster, especially with the Foundry. It took them til Season 5 to fix most of the problems. By then it was being handed over to PWE.

Hands down, word-for-word, this is the B E S T S U M M A R Y of how I feel right now with STO Season 9.5. Well-said, darin010.
I miss season 8. In my own opinion it was the best of times with the least amount of bugs and before the dreaded graphics issues. Season 9 came along and messed with the graphics and players on the forums have noticed items just vanish, ( myself as well ) and now with this season 9.5 I see that the new R&D revamp is a bit odd but I am sure they will fix it soon.
I did notice another VERY disturbing problem... My Fleet Advanced Phasers seem more nerfed than ever before now. Something is very very wrong.
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Greywolf Taskforce - Officer of the Fleet
Whenever a Season comes out and it has problems, they're usually unintended problems or something added to the game that some people take offense with because it collides with the iceberg that is their head-canon (carriers, dinosaur people from earth having dinosaur pets, etc.).
That kind of stuff never bothered me (in fact, the Voth having dinosaur pets seems logical to me, IDIC and all that) and I'm generally patient enough to wait for fixes to actual problems.
But this is the first update that, at least to me, removes more than it adds, and that's disappointing to say the least.
With the exception of the Odyssey and Bortasqu' uniform additions and changes (which look *really* good), and maybe perhaps crafting, everything else touched on took a hit by either being removed completely or given a more obtuse UI.
Memory Alpha social zone? Gone (for good? Was hoping for a revamp and the place being more of a vast library and place of study, would make for good RP).
The only element of exploration in the game in the form of Star Clusters? Gone (and while I like the Foundry and many missions made in it, it's not like I can fly to a random point in space and just get a Foundry-made mission without having to swim through a list first of lower-than-Star-Cluster-quality missions).
Diplomatic non-combat missions like First Contact assignments? Gone (that takes a large chunk of the oft-argued-for non-combat portion of STO with it).
Suggestions for Star Cluster mission replacements:
1. One element I liked from Star Clusters is that it had short random missions, that you'd come across a distress call or something like that and deal with it.
I don't see why we can't have something like that made more dynamic, slightly personalized perhaps. Missions we come across with slight variations that give us a kind of Guild Wars 2-sort of "oh hey, I just tripped across a ship that lost power and needs help, I'll drop out of warp and supply them, but then a group of pirates dropped in on us and now I actually have to prevent them from destroying the ship" event.
Would certainly make up for things. Not talking about making it a silly queue or sector-wide thing, but an actual dynamic'ish thing that pops up that doesn't give us a pre-planned mission briefing. I mean, we might get used to all the variations of certain types of missions after a while, but as long as it gives a reward and doesn't happen all the time, would be kind of neat.
Basically, we're on our way to some location in sector space, and we get a call for a mission (like example above, or a call to make first contact with an unknown ship or planetary signal), we accept it, and go to a blinking beacon on the map until the game decides we're close enough. Then you enter it and do the mission. That would go a long way to making the game world seem more lively.
2. Also, why can't we have a Foundry contest for shorter exploration-type missions to directly tie into Star Clusters or such? So maybe we run up to a Star Cluster and it gives a random mission, we go inside and it's a winning submission for a "Foundry Exploration Mission Contest" thing. They can be five to twenty-minute-long missions and deal with smaller situations while exploring space.
That would be a good alternative as well, I'd feel. Until a full-on exploration system comes in, hopefully. Could even tie in with the previous dynamic event suggestion.
And on a small, unrelated note, just noticed all the nerve tonics I stored away for a rainy day long ago for the inevitable dance party are suddenly spamming my overflow. I don't really see the reason for making those difficult to have on hand for those who want to use them. Could just make them available at a bar or have the dance an unlockable emote or something.
I'm generally unhappy about the removal of the exploration clusters, since that was something I liked doing to kill time and earn a little dill. Bugs or no bugs.
I don't like the new duty officer assignment UI. I'm sure that I will adapt, but the older UI was good for what it was made for.
And the new crafting system isn't my cup of tea, even though I do like the separate inventory for R&D materials. That alone has convinced me to dabble in the new system a little. But I won't take it seriously. Good gear can be had through Fleets and the Reputation System. So, I have no real need to craft, other than occasionally out of boredom.
What do I like about the 9.5 update?
I like some of the new Xindi items, especially the small arms and new Bridge Officer.
I like the new variants of the Odyssey and Bortasqu uniforms. And I'm glad that the Basic versions are now free in the tailor.
I like the fact that the TR-116 is now available to the masses, in modified form. Too bad it's locked behind the new crafting system.
I like the fact that nanoenergy cell can be used for all weapons now.
The Xindi ships are nice, even though they are not really to my tastes.
And I'm pleased with some of the bug fixes.
So, in my opinion, while Season 9.5 isn't great, it's not a total bust either.
the new crafting so arduous that it requires its own inventory but they suck up 18% of my doff roster for it need what I have for mission doffs and to recruit commons for fleet projects. this is total TRIBBLE

Well Season 9.5, Its very lacking new content but I actually like that, we have had some much new stuff thrown at us of late, its good to get some improvements over Content. The Doff change of UI has yet to disappoint me, however I am not a huge doffer, I just casually do it. The revamped RnD I like so far, Its not anymore grindy then the previous system plus it seems your get better gear. Just need to update my doffs to purple to get a better outcome from the projects you do. The release of the oddy uniform was the biggest thing I was looking forward to. The new varients are pretty nice to. Over all, its not a bad update but how it was a 3.5GB patch is beyond me.
