I agree completely. I too use the doff system quite a bit and it's a mess to me as well. I wasn't happy with my inventory being altered as well. Putting the R&D tab between the inventory and asset tab makes no sense. I switch between my inventory and asset tab constantly. Sure people will probably use the R&D tab more often for the first couple of weeks, but after that, it's going to be a hassle. The only way I can have all three tabs showing at once is to make my inventory box larger, which I do not like to do. I prefer to have as few boxes and menus blocking my game screen as possible.
has anyone found the conversion for the old crafting items for the new ones, no one in my fleet and myself can't seem to find it? Did they just forget to add the conversion?

You should be able to right click the data samples and hit use to convert them.

nope not working nor is the double clicking.

this must have been the most rushed job, since release of the game. wow just wow you really outdid yourselfs. I hope you devs have fun in vegas. Maybe you can put up some devblogs about X2, no rush i don't mind reading them after its on holo after a few weeks of community testing.
More CTD then even at release of S9, made doffing (a good 85% of my game time) a pain, so i guess i can safe myself the hassle of doing that. I love the new uniforms, sadly i can't use the tailor, crafting is meh,
Removed exploration, more accolade hassle, and once again you revamped a system, without deeper integration. 18white research doffs does not make for a good tie-in with the doff system. Accolades and region don't affect crafting or materials, let alone career or .... After 4years of suggestions and feedback this was a poorly communicated design, followed by rushed implementation. Gateway integration coming soont(tm), lol.
You also removed factional differences both in the items we can craft, and with the cross-faction lock box. Overall instead of integrating systems as the new EP said he wanted to, its more disparate compared to before the revamp. Neither our reps nor our doffing or any other XP is tied into crafting, the R&D console on the Sb is obsolete...
And this doesn't even begin to address the balance issues of the new lock box or the general lack of effective QnA, that anybody on here stop expecting years ago.
early alpha stage was the words geko used i think, well late alpha is on holo now, and it shows. New weapons type is available on holo...figure out the procs yourselfs, new doff active roster powers...go go google. I mean you used to be able to do this before....what happened?
So nothing mention about the removal of exploration from the game. An I find it strange that the galaxy map include places that you can no longer go to because they have been remove. An it pretty pathetic for cryptic not to mention the biggest change in the game in their own blog, and the removal of content.
Other than that there literally nothing in this update for me.
Whilst I really hate that they have removed star clusters, they did say it was happening. It's mentioned in the patch notes, there were discussions in the Tribble forums for the last several weeks about it, and two weeks ago they published a Dev Blog about it.
it has been in dev blogs and tribble patch notes. Not to mention todays release notes that star clusters are GONE. The waypoints are still there and you can get DOFF assignments.
But not the arc blog. I just found it strange it wasn't mention in this blog given that in my opinion it by far the biggest change in the game for 9.5.
OK.....firstly.....I do appreciate the work u guys have put in for 9.5...................BUT......
I do have a few things to say.............
# The Doff system UI........sucks!! Truly does!! It looks horrible and what is more is that I am unable to choose the Doffs that I would like for a particular mission, by way of customized selection of the 'quality' and 'specializations' for each doff!! Not done. I prefer the old system......anyday!
# Has the mission 'Support Colonization Efforts' removed now that exploration clusters are discontinued???
# Regarding the new Crafting system. No adequate information has been given as to how or where new materials can be obtained or even for the whole process of crafting itself!! From what I could gather by just going through the R&D, crafting seems to be quite a tedious and costly affair, certainly not user-friendly, and which imho hasn't been planned properly by the devs!
Hope to see some improvements and rollbacks in the coming weeks.
Can't craft anything because it all requires missing components!?
Where do we get the missing components and why weren't we spotted some to at least complete 1 R&D project instead of just ignoring the whole thing?
I'd like to know this as well. Do I need to run Cryptic missions to find anomalies, only to then convert them to get the crafting components? Do I only get them from those science doff missions and anomalies? Obviously, I can't farm the clusters for them.
So, it's confusing to me to suddenly be trying out a system where you need currency A to convert to currency B, when the clusters for farming currency A are gone.
Can't open the "Crafting Tutorial Reward Package". I tried right-click-use and double clicking. Nothing happens. And yea, like others have more or less said already... Really dislike the new Doff UI. It's unclear and awkward.

I must be missing something obvious, yes?
I would like to know this as well... i did find out, that they do give you enough components to make ONE Mkll ground weapon... ONE .... yeah....
Try rezoning or exit the game and then relogging in.
ok was able to do it to the ones that were on my NEW toon, but all of my old toon, and the ones taken out of the fleet bank CAN NOT be turned into new ones.... >:/

Welp, I have said it before 9.5 and i am saying it again now since now people are starting to see the truth in the changes...
Fact is this is just even more proof that PWE is taking STO in the cash grab monetization direction. As i said before 9.5 hit that it is pretty pitiful to see any company especially one as cryptic/PWE to go the maximized capitalist route rather then actually caring about it's players opinions but in the grander scheme of things it's not really all that surprising that they traded capitalist greed for their dignity and respect. And with this patch it would not surprise me if the STO servers turn into barren wastelands filled only with the absolute die-hard fanbois that have the money to burn on this quickly tanking MMO.
All in all if you...
Want materials to craft without much hassle - Pay RL money for it
Want the best gear - Pay RL money for it
Want to succeed in playing an almost to the point of being a falsely advertised "F2P" P2W soon to be P2P again game - PAY RL MONEY FOR IT!
Basically to sum it up in a nutshell at this point after this latest update they have castrated STO of what makes Star Trek, Star Trek and replaced it with the star wars montra of Max Monetization with wargaming.nets motto of "We do things based solely on how much cash we can grab". I will be surprised if STO survives another year seeing as how this patch has STO sustained by a life support system for a game which is metaphorically speaking being held together by bargain bin duct tape and bailing wire.
Who knows, maby after this flappin belly flop cryptic/PWE will start listening to it's community instead of rushing stuff out for the cash grab... Then again it's the joke company that is cryptic/PWE so i seriously doubt it.
Wow, I thought somebody was joking when he/she told be to buy the crafting components in the z-store. It's true!
which means hardly anyone will ever use the crafting system. Then again only a fraction of the user base would have use it even if you didn't have to use Zen to get components.
I thought we were supposed to have a separate roster for R&D Doffs? Well that sucks. So, we have to get rid of some of our well earned quality doffs to make room for some R&D doffs not knowing what quality we're getting. How many we're getting and all for a mediocre crafting system?
I think I'll pass and play something else until season 10 hits. I'm really disappointed in Cryptic this time round. I really am!

*nods*
Yeah, I am in the same boat. After checking out the new system, I didn't see anything worth my time and effort. R&D is a very-very-very-very-very-very-very boring addition to "Star Trek: Online". I might as well watch paint dry.

Yeah, I agree with you as well. Since I have enough rep gear unlocked, I have no use for this particular upgrade.

wow you beat everyone to this, I agree with all of this, its really sad to see a game that had so much potential and it's been squandered.

The package contains 18 officers so start deleting until you can fit them.
Would have been nice to have a separate crafting DOff storage.

If you have a full DOFF roster, it won't open.
