We don't need the same outrage that occurred at SWTOR when they expanded the romantic relationships available to their characters brought onto our forums.
And those optional romances were with NPC's. The OP wants this between live players.
No, just no.
Cryptic gets yelled at enough for legitimate TRIBBLE ups. They don't need to bait the bigots and religious fanatics.
This is a StarTrek game base on a show that was centered around tolerence, if people want to marry thier quastionable gender horned face alien to somebody else, I really don't see the problem with it.

Now, the present time, is a bad time to get embroiled in politics, when you're just trying to turn a dollar over on a video game. The likelihood that Cryptic would remain hands-off this hot-button issue, is extremely high. It's an easy way out and one I'd take myself. They'd just be saying "we make video games, we don't need that kind of PR mess" by taking one stance or another.

A StarTrek game should stay true to what StarTrek was about, im my opinion. That's all I will say about it.
The problem is that Star Trek is make believe where everyone gets along if it's written that way, however internet forums consist of real people. Imperfect people, with irrational opinions and prejudices. And internet anonymity allows them to indulge in their unpleasant intolerance.
Star Trek had the first interracial kiss on T.V, Gene and other writers wern't afried to TRIBBLE people off about what happen on the show. This is the spirt I am talking about. But whatever in-game marrige will have to be role-playing element, there is RP community that would love to help with that Im sure.
They don't need to bait the bigots and religious fanatics.
I find it ironic that people who are religious are called bigots, fanatics, haters, everything else while the people saying it are the ones who are usually beating the "Star Trek is about tolerance" drum. Actually a lot of religious people are very tolerant and have no problems with anyone, it is the people who are not religious who seem to be displaying hate and intolerance on STO.
That being said, marriage on STO? naaaa, if anyone can't live without that, every other mmo game has that and usually it is in the form of another money pit. Does anyone really think Cryptic needs yet another money pit?
Went back and read the OP a second time. Apparently, there is some game where one can transport to one's partner in the event of an emergency.
Oh yeah, this is a great idea. "We'll never exploit this! We promise!" - Says no one ever.
Is it canon for Captains to be married? Kirk wasn't, Picard wasn't, Sisko was a widower, Janeway wasn't. Neither was Archer, IIRC. They all had relationships, sure. But none of them was married.
I cannot speak for others. Nor would I presume to. But, speaking for only myself, could we please keep Real Life a little further away from my playtime? I don't have nearly enough of this as it is.
Just when I thought I had seen every single craaazy idea be posted in these forums, this one pops up.
A six year old boy and his starship. Living the dream.
The first would put your ship or Captain in the line of fire taking all the damage from your mate.
The second one would happen if your mate diesd, meaning your ship or Captain would go on an emotional rampage of chaos, destruction and revenge against who provided the death blow.

Really who cares if people marry in game, its fun too them. Seeing it doesn't effect my gameplay and we had marrige theme episdodes in Trek.
I recall another protest that allowing characters to change their genders will send children the message that cross dressing is okay. But the same idiots that think that have no problem letting their kids watch bugs bunny cartoons.
"Son, you can become a killer, a rapist and a thief. You can beat people, you can ignore every law and be as insolent as you like. But don't ever, ever change your toon's gender, because that's like dressing like a girl. And that...that is unacceptable"
Why should such a trait be limited to married people and not actual friends? While some of us are Star Trek loners, there are some people that are playing with their friends or so I was told. A trait for friends makes more sense than the OP's suggestion.

Well atleast marriage so we can crossfaction team with the other players..
Add that to the admission in another thread that the OP is an unrepentant habitual troll in the real world, enjoying things like going to vegan dinners to have a steak in front of all the non-meat-eaters, I can't help but think this idea largely originated under a bridge if ya catch what I'm saying.
If it is anything like the real word, it should be a debuff where each toons gets 25% reduction to speed and a big reduction to health (err hit points).
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
with the bonus that 2 married toons have soem sort of team/marriage buff if they are on the same map.
and with the ability to team up crossfaction when you both are married
I'm all for this, since it isn't hard to implement at all. There is a game called Ragnarok Online that makes good on the marriage system, even to the point of having a sponsored player as a child. Guild Wars also have the wedding dress and groom outfit to celebrate a in game NPC wedding. I believe Thackeray and Gwen's wedding.
Exactly.
I don't care if people get this ability.
It will not effect me in any way whatsoever.
So long as no in game abilities or buffs are gained from something so simple and unaffecting to me, aside from the possibility of cross faction teaming for them. So what?
Bottom Line : will if affect my gameplay in any way? will they gain some advantage by doing it? If the answers to those two questions are NO, then whatever, I don't care.
That said, I personally think it's a silly idea, and hope no dev time is actually ever spent trying to make it a reality.
But that's my opinion.
Your mileage may vary.

I really think people would not care that much, unless they are anal min/maxers. Most people who play are causuals, unless the trait is so op its absouletly neeeded then it would be a problem.
Along with Marriage, we should have the ability to sweep the floor, vacuum, wash dishes, do laundry, cook dinner, take a bath/shower, pick our nose/teeth/bottom, clean our back sides, trim our nails, floss, brush our teeth, rinse with mouth wash, comb our hair, wash our hair, put on perfumes and deodorants, sweat, but none of that matters because this is a STARTREK game, not the SIMS.
Comments
They're referring to TRIBBLE couples. The "cross-gender" part of the OP's proposal.

Considering the setting you'd have more luck requesting the possibility of military alliances with some feasible in-game bonuses for that.
Marriage, like houses and other domestic stuff, just don't fit in what is essentially a future military game.

You know, this will probably end up in game regardless

Related news: STO kills Exploration to allow the new Marriage feature, enjoy ! :P
If you marry you'll get two new BOff abilities:
1-Shield partner
2-Avenge death with all your renegade might
The first would put your ship or Captain in the line of fire taking all the damage from your mate.
The second one would happen if your mate diesd, meaning your ship or Captain would go on an emotional rampage of chaos, destruction and revenge against who provided the death blow.

You are slipping up, but I can't be surprised since you are just Q Jr and not Q so mistakes are expected.
STO kills PvP to allow the new Marriage feature in Season 10.5 not Season 9.5.
But they already can be married ingame. This is called, "Role Play".
The OP wanted some sort of buff applied to toons which get hitched.
It can be slotted trait you get for it.

not everyone is in the UFP...
And openly admitted it was all about the buff:
