A way to stop dancing to Party Amplifiers

voporakvoporak Member Posts: 5,621 Arc User
When you're within range of a disco ball and are dancing to it, type /movementreset

You stop dancing to it.

Type /bind <key> movementreset to bind it to a key. I used `, so I typed /bind ` movementreset

It's a debug command, so you can't use it more than once quickly.
I ask nothing but that you remember me.

A nice short term solution except that the disco balls can be spammed.
A better idea would be for cryptic to accept the fact that they are the most common weapon in the troll arsenal, and allow us the option to not be affected by them if we choose.

Most of the time there's only one out at once.

Plus, this is the first real solution.

They are considered disruptive to some. Particularly if people are trying to RP and perform emotes ETC.

I can already envision that this might blow up in flames, but I had to put the disco ball solution out there.

Or just walk away. I tend to do all my exchange business at the Gamma fleet since it's in space and no one can use those there.

Yeah, never really understood the rage they engender. Unless it's more of a lag issue than a dance issue.

    No, it's literally dance-induced rage.

Again - if it was an OPTION to party I wouldn't have a problem. In fact, I find it as a nusiance rather than anything truly horrible...

Debug commands, no matter their utility, should never be available to the players.

Devs: please fix this. If I can't combine costume parts, they shouldn't be able to stop dancing. ;)

Thanks for the tip OP . :)
Yeah, never really understood the rage they engender. Unless it's more of a lag issue than a dance issue.

You never understood , or you never bother to read the tons of comments against it ?

Either way it's pretty simple :
No matter if you like to RP or not , or if you like to party or not (I like to party , but on my own time , and I don't RP with others) -- the simple point is that the disco ball takes control of your toon .

It does not matter what it does .
It matters that it (via some other player) takes control and performs an action that you did not initiate .

Many ppl pretend not to understand why that is a problem .
I wonder if those same ppl would answer YES if they were asked a question in a Q&A :
"Do you like other ppl to take over your toon ? " .

I think the majority would vote NO .
But as long as it is them preforming the artificial control , it's ok ... .

... and yes , once again I do love to party , but on my own time (or a friend's time) , and not some random stranger's in a random place ...

I agree that disco balls are a nuisance, and we should be allowed to shoot them down and destroy them. Seriously though, disco balls should be confined to starbase bar areas only.

if they had given the players the ability to choose whether they WANTED to be affected by their useless toys then they should have. Players shouldnt be able to combine parts from different uniforms styles anyways (ie. Off-duty and Omega or MACO and mercenary *not that i ever saw any but still*)

@vop lol its the first one.

They won't remove it. If they were going too, they would have done so by now.

What should be done though, is to have a timer on the use of these things. Say, only let them be used once every 24 hours.

There should also be a limit too how many can be in on inventory at any given time and they should increase the cost of these things in the store.

I'm sorry, but I can literally make the same argument for that costume customization that you folks make against the disco ball. I should get to choose what I can do, other people's fun isn't as important as mine, I should get to choose what to do with my character, etc.

Bottom line is this: since they removed the debug command for costumes, they need to remove this debug command as well. There's nothing I hate more than hypocritical enforcement.

    Fair enough of an solution.

Personally, I'd say to keep certain maps disco free. Say, Drozana, Flotilla, Ganalda and 39-Sierra. That way the RP people have some safe places, while the rest can be used to pary.

Personally, I only use the darned things on Defera Invasion Zone when City bugs out again. Gotta love dancing Borg, right?

Drozana, I would have thought it was the ideal place to allow the balls. While we are on the subject could someone switch the ice grenades back on in Drozana thanks. :)
