Star Trek is all of these things.
This picture doesn't need any context. It's the ******n USS Enterprise. Wherever it's going it's going there boldly. That's what it always does. Is any single screenshot, episode, comic, novel, fanart, or fanfiction indicative of Star Trek as a whole? Don't be silly of course not.
Saying we should exclude the fanservice is like saying we should exclude all of TNG! TNG certainly doesn't represent Star Trek "as a whole". :P
Just because there's creepy fanfiction doesn't mean we should shun the practice as a whole, and just because there will be idiots with the customization system doesn't mean you should take a crapper on the rest of us.
If there is one thing I want you to take seriously, it's this: When you see an Orion, or a Character wearing the Be'ves, or the Cropped Winter Jackets, or going shirtless, or covered head to toe in armor, it's not your Star Trek. It's their Star Trek. And you don't deserve the right to dictate that to them.
I do believe everyone here has the right to voice an opinion. It;s just a shame that some of the past users in this thread have raged at others and accused them of being a troll simply because they do not agree with the constant need for sexualized clothing.
Now calm down and relax. If it's causing you problems, then go see a therapist and talk about it. It's nothing to be ashamed of.
Amen to that! I can never understand these puritans. There are other venues where they can be preachy, but Star Trek has, since the 60s, have always gone beyond the social norms. I really don't get why some people don't want us to obtain the items shown in the IP, just like in any other theme park MMO.
I called him a troll because we pointed out the flaws in his arguments, stating that star trek is indeed full of skimpy clothes, even the on duty clothes were skimpy...
and he wouldn't accept that, kept insisting they were taken out of context, not realising the problem with his own argument.
Actually I set the santa clause thing up during the Christmas as a joke...
But I took your idea out of context and displayed it as something else entirely. See how easy that is to do?
IF you think I'm a child, you're cute.
You certainly act like one.
Now, let's be realistic here, you're one of those people who think a woman should dress modestly to avoid being *****. So you are of a culture that is outdated, blaming the woman for it simply because she dresses a bit... casually.
Nice strawman. But to paraphrase Dave Chapelle, if people see you wearing a police officer's clothes, don't be surprised if people come to you thinking you're a policeman. If you wear a prostitute's clothes, then you are wearing a prostitute's uniform.
I'm of the newer generation, who by the way has been adults for a decade at the least... where we're teaching people that it's us, ourselves who decide if others should be objectified or not based on their appearance. Meaning, we take responsibility for our actions. We don't blame others. It has NEVER been the girl's fault, no matter how trashy she dressed. So let's look at this from a progressive point of view. Censorship has a negative impact on society. I don't particularly care how the people here dress. It's just a game. If they dress like people do on public beaches, that's fine. It's not pornography.
That's some grade-A projection right there.
For those who scream "She's wearing a skimpy bathing suit, the boys will get off on it! it's bad bad bad!", I merely point to the beaches, to TV and say "what about those places?" You cannot censor, but you can teach others to respect women, no matter what they wear.
Now calm down and relax. If it's causing you problems, then go see a therapist and talk about it. It's nothing to be ashamed of.
You're the one who delusionally thinks I support positions that I don't. You're the one making strawman arguments because you can't back up the original arguments made. If anyone needs to see a therapist, I'm going to go ahead and say it isn't me.
They know children play this game, but they don't care, since they want their sexy trill on ESD running around barefoot, and anyone who disagrees with them is a sheltered prude who isn't open-minded.

You sure are quick to label people and give them titles.

Pretty sure no one says no swimsuits. They just said keep that Risa but watch this be looked over and people get back to screams "You are taking my FREEEEEDDDDOOOOOMMMMMM!"
I would post what Tera's thinks are outfits are but I don't want to be banned. Pretty sure STO does not need to take ideas from that game.
Speaking strictly in terms of BUSINESS, TERA Online has an excellent summer attire system wherein you can obtain the summer outfits for free via a series of easy quests, and you can have them for 30 days or so. However, if you want to have the summer outfits permanently attached to your characters, you can buy them from their cash shop.
So perhaps as a financial incentive, STO should adapt a similar system. Perhaps restrict the "free" swimwear on Risa, but if you want to wear it anywhere, just pay for it in the C-store. Win win for all...
Wow. I finally take the time to write a well thought out argument and in the meantime the thread explodes. What did I tell you kids about playing with fire?

I understand that. But sexualized or not, I am not okay with your constant need to force your ideals upon me. And that's where you've gone wrong.

Correct. I don't care if they stay on Risa. They can go nuts on that lovely binary star system's planet with all their trampy glory, and I won't say a word about costume restrictions there.

Forcing? I am afraid you are wrong. I am stating my opinion, as you are yours.

That's really the crux of it all. Some players here are constantly forcing their ideals upon others. All that is being asked again and again is choice. And we even justify that choice by giving examples from the Star Trek IP itself that it fits within the context of this game.

The IP is just a bad argument people keep trying to use.

This reminds me of a joke.
New piece of gear comes out and the forums scream "Pay 2 Win! PWI is ran by Ferengi." etc etc etc
Look around the forums some more and you see people saying Cryptic should do X for much *goes her best ferengi voice* prooooooooffffffffiiiiiit

Yes, swimsuits in the context of the game belong on swimsuit-appropriate areas, just like in Star Trek. I'm glad we agree on this.
The IP is just a bad argument people keep trying to use.
How is it a bad argument? The game is called Star Trek Online, the photos centersolace posted is from Star Trek. If its from the show, then its only appropriate that it be added to the game. Cryptic can monetize it if you wish, just give us a choice to obtain it somehow.

And that's the twisted thing...for the most part they've been providing evidence for your argument while calling you wrong. I think that was the infuriating part. It would have been one thing if they were disagreeing with you and offering evidence that disagreed with you...but the arguing one thing while showing another...meh, it's just tedious.

Most of those photos are not in "swimsuit appropriate areas".
If you're going to Godwin a thread, you should really go all out.
There we go. Now I want a TRIBBLE Uniform I can run around wearing in STO. And anyone who disagrees with me is a closed-minded prude who is anti-customization, and if they don't want to see my swastika armband on their screen they can just look away.

Us sheltered prudes can be open minded too!

That's all I'm going to say.
but to go purtian instead of following the uniform code... it kinda... ruins your point.

Why should we add anything to this game?

Note: If you have to throw TRIBBLE or Hitler into a conversation, you've already lost your argument. I'm pm-ing a dev. This conversation is over.
Really? Cause it was queetz that said...
...he's the one arguing for TRIBBLE in STO.
