    If they don't get the optional, they are OBVIOUSLY playing with noobs and who would want to do that?
    I know there is a method but all I see is madness.

    If you PUG, you should be prepared to be teamed with someone new to the mission, have a sub-optimal build, whatever.

    If it all goes mammaries-up, then try and explain what you think happened.

    If they're polite, cool. If they're not, add them to ignore.

    The kind of attitude you're displaying is what put me off MMO's for time and a half.

    Keep in mind: everyone's new at some point. And everyone needs to wind their neck in at some point.

    Even if you lost half the marks of the STF it would still compensate to finish it. You're there already, you've done part of it and you will get the cooldown anyway. The optional is a nice bonus, but it's just that, a bonus.

    Not a great one, not a horrible one:

    So I just got my "OP" Valdore console and stuck it on my cannon scimitar, which usually places last with an elite team and first with a bunch of idiots.

    Went into a PUG ISE match. Risan corvette, another scimi, what looked like a Mogai retrofit, and something else I didn't recognize. Got knocked down to the bottom of the map by a glitch, worked my way up in time to shoot the cube a bit. Went into beast mode on transformer 1 and nuked the spheres while inside gate range. Made it, barely, kicked some serious rear.

    We go right. Transformer 1 took like a minute.

    I take out a gen while the others kill the cube. Cloak, turn, decloak, melt spheres...oh, TRIBBLE, inside the gate range.

    I stay alive just long enough to evade the tac cube and then get killed by the gate. :rolleyes:

    Respawn, attack tac cube as the gate falls...

    Aggro monster. Instakill torp because RSP is on cooldown.

    Tac cube dies in 30 seconds. By the time I respawn there's nothing left to shoot.

    Strangest ISE I've ever run. I swear, I look at the combat log and I got the worst results from EVERY SINGLE random number...

    Finally bought the Charal class Kumari, a ship I've wanted for my Andorian alt since I created him, a few days ago and promptly made an TRIBBLE of myself in an ISE PUG. I had been flying the free Federation cruisers up to this point, and maybe got just a little overconfident about my survivability... It wasn't just me though, everyone in this game was doing pretty bad -- some highlights:

    Someone puts a grav well on the first cube, pulls an exploding sphere in, I get caught in the sphere's explosion and die. Oops, not a good start...

    A team of five players somehow manages to collectively ignore the top right generator on the first transformer, optional fails since we only got the transformer down to maybe 50% after that. Killing the spheres takes this group forever, stuck in the same loop fmgtorres1979 describes. I regularly play with the channel linked in my sig, a low DPS group, and it never takes us anywhere near as long as this did.

    No repeat on the other generators, we get them down pretty quickly, work on the transformer, but can't drop it fast enough so it gets healed to full just as it was about to go down. I'm not sure what happened, but I think only I was hitting the transformer at one point while the other guys were firing the spheres? Not sure, anyway second set of gateway spheres went much quicker than the first, at least.

    Gateway and cube were comparatively uneventful, except I drew agro from both and ended up dying a few more times.

    So yeah, pretty embarrassing maiden voyage for the I.G.V. Shran, made slightly better by the fact that I got into an unskilled team. It would've been worse dropping in on a good team and being worthless. I've gotten used to the ship since that game, picked up some better defensive gear, and it's been holding up great. :)

    Undine Assault, my second time through it. I did okay the first time, my lane got our first gate down, no problem, the other two lanes were having issues, though. So we started cooperating on one lane, and it wasn't bad.

    The second time, ohgod. Spawncamping Tethys', gobs and gobs of Vilas and Dromias, and SO MUCH TORPEDO SPAM. I spawn, my shields go down, and I get immediately pasted with 40k in one hit and then 35k in another. I'm in a Chel Grett, with 53k hull. There's no way I can react that quickly to that much incoming damage.

    Long story short, everyone left, we didn't finish a single gate, and there were no leaver penalties.

    Note to self never pug viscous cycle again. Had to solo the lanes because the other 4 people couldn't even manage to push out to the first rift much less close it.

    Not really a terrible experience, but just an experience that makes me lose even more hope for my fellow players.

    Vicious Cycle Elite has become my go to for marks and injections, and I had played this STF several times today. I get into the pug and notice two of the ships have at least 5 injuries, but I decide to soldier on. We get to the first maw and as usual, the rest of the team do their job by engaging the Undine. I start to go to work transporting and shooting the maw.

    I watch as my team pops, over, and over, and over again. I even decided to help them out, though 4 should be able to handle some NPCs. I go back to accomplishing the objective and they start dying to a single Undine ship.

    At this point I finish the first maw and move toward the second. One of my teammates with 5 critical damages starts saying, "this is going to get nerfed" and other things along these lines. I quietly go about continuing to beat the mission. By the end, we were a team of 3 but still finished.

    I'll give some credit to the complainer that they stuck it out, but to instantly call for a nerf simply because you died is just sad.

    It's just that type of player who thinks that if she/he can't do something that it means that it's impossible to do.

    Just before S9 I was reported as cheater by some other tac/escort captain just because my build could win 1vs1 with borg cube in KASE. He and his fleet mate barely won 2vs1 so in their logic if they can't do it solo no one can do it.

    Just finished up a KAGE Run.

    Running my SCI Toon, got paired with 2 engi's and 2 Tac's. Ended up being a "Heal-Fest" they died, I healed...every 45 seconds or so :eek:

    Needless to say, Optional was a bust. Took about 15 minutes just to get all the nodes blown. No one wanted to stick together, which you all know is a pain.

    And then there was the final boss.

    Solo'd that part :o Didn't think it was possible (Hate ground STF's so don't run them much) but apparently it is lol

    Oh, and no one spoke, responded or listened. So yea, worst STF Run EVER.....for me anyway

    breach elite.. 2 feds come in (they were from the same fleet) me in my Tvaro, a rommie tac and a kdf eng.
    I stopped counting the number of injuries on one of the fed ships after 10... the other had 7.
    They kept doing the wrong things the whole time... kept blowing up a zillion times more than my skinny Tvaro! Essentially got carried by the rest of us... that's when I decided not to play elite pugs on weekends

    We still live!!!!! Hahahahahahahahaa! We live and we will conquer!!!!! Hahahahahaaha!

    My worst is in Infected Space:

    a noob-with-Tactical-Oddy DONT attack the cube over first node, but directly generator. I with my SCI char and a not totally performant build (i'm using support build with enhaced group healing and tanking capability, not a damage dealer build) try to destroy all nanite sphere asking help. No one give me support, so i'm alone. The genius that cause this die and when respawn ... attack second cube alone! :eek:

    I'm attacked by gateway, that destroy me in 5 shot. Optional fail, because 2/3 mate attack transformer and not the 2 generators remaining... i, before respawn, ask to use more attention for finishing fast (23 min for doing nothing and spawn at least 20 nanite sphere ... WORST, not BAD). Ask to "the genius" to support us.

    Response: "what you want? this is the correct way. we fail optional because you're weak and not support us with healing buff" :eek::eek:

    I try to explain that, doing correctly, Infected Space could be done in <7 min...
    Response: "ok ok, what u want, Mister I-know-all-because-i'm-a-weak-support".

    This when we are at same point (no transformer destroyed, after more 35 min!!!)
    Seeing that, i insert in my ignore list "the genius" and quit, because I do not like being insulted.

    Side Node: the "weak support" give 5k shield regen/30 sec and 9920 hull regen/45 sec + 567 hull regen (duration: 45 second, 1 buff over 6 sec)/1 min (target self and team), with over 24k damage with critical (hyper plasma torpedo)... with an unfinished build ... what u want more? :eek:

    So as ISE starts, there's one guy that hasn't made the transition. Looking at the other folks on the team, can tell it's not going to be a high DPS group overall. Heck, I'm there on an Eng - there's an Atrox - the guy that's stuck in limbo is likely one of the two main DPS guys in the group. Not only is it damage...but can tell the folks there are in slow boats.

    Should have been obvious from the initial Cube/Spheres - that the key to speed is going a bit slower and working together. You know - adapting to what the team's got, eh?

    Hit up the left side...start in on the Cube as folks are moving along. Like I said, should have been obvious from the start what kind of group this would be - and - there's no issue with that. 5-7 minute group instead of a 3-5 minute group. It's a couple of minutes - big deal.

    But one guy, decides to drop a Gen before folks are anywhere near position to start hammering away at the others. In come the Nanites, slow boats nowhere in position - not rocking the DPS...optional failed.

    And he warps. At this point, the transition guy finally gets on the map and we pick up a Sci in an Ody. We take out the Nanites, the Transformer, move to the right, take out the Cube, Gens, Transformer, Spheres, Nanites, Gate, Tac Cube...etc, etc, etc.

    So many issues can be avoided - if folks just stop to take a look around at the team they've got...right from the start, with how things go with the Cube/Spheres. Should have a good idea of how to hit up each side at that point. Just charging in to Kirk it...welll...

    Yep, it may have taken 6 minutes - but it went smooth as butter...after the noob left the team. ;)

    I think at this point it's just "Storytime" :)

    Since returning to STO after about an 18 month break, I've noticed that generally-speaking folks in Elite PUGs are much better at the Cure and Khitomer (in terms of knowing what to shoot and when to guard things) but Infected is still... meh.

    For the most part people just Zerg random generators the same way as I was used to seeing in the olden days - the difference is that now there seems to usually be enough DPS output to kill them all in time before the Nanites get near. I put it down to "power creep" over the last few seasons.

    I still won't go in without at least a Vent Theta Radiation console (and usually TBR1 too) though, "just in case". The number of times I've had to Evasive my Escort away from its proper target in order to TRIBBLE a cloud of plasma in the path of a bunch of Nanite Spheres... :P

    My worst experience since coming back probably has to be when I tried "The Breach" (not elite, just regular) - I was just back and hadn't checked out the power changes yet, so I was flying my old Armitage Aux2Bat build (a Regular Scorpion Fighter wing, a Quantum Torpedo Launcher, an Aft Tricobalt mine Launcher, and a bunch of Polarized Disruptor DHCs/Turrets; plus the old MACO shield + Assimilated Engine/Deflector/Console setup)

    I hadn't a clue what was going on in the mission instance; but I started flying around shooting at anything which seemed appropriate and I managed to blow up enough of the fortified emplacements in order to grant our team access to the inner part of the arena. Once inside, the rest of the team started getting fed up with the constant CC spam from the NPCs, and dropped out one by one, so eventually it was just me and a guy in a Scimitar duoing the instance. Taking out all the bosses on our own was tough (every time the Scimitar pulled aggro he died, so I tanked most of the instance including the bosses. It meant occasionally having to zigzag in and out of boss range to avoid getting killed; so I did less damage than usual and occasionally lost aggro - at which point the scimitar died. Again.) :eek:

    We completed the instance, but it must have taken over an hour and I died at the very end to the "the facility you're in is about to blow up, find your way out quickly" mechanic because I got completely lost and didn't make it out in time... :D

    Just had a really, really great ISE run.

    Nobody died even once. I was in my Avenger, using a relatively low-DPS rainbow build with a chroniton torp, mostly MK 12 gear with some MK 11, but I still dealt not-terrible DPS (close to 5k :cool:).

    The team was fast, efficient, and smart. We nuked the left cube, I killed a gen and moved to intercept spheres, they hammered the other gens and the transformer, I nuked the spheres with my torps and stuff, slowed 'em down enough that the other guys blew the transformer.

    Cleaned up probes, rinse and repeat.

    Gateway went down in under 20 seconds. Tac cube, under 30.

    Beautiful. Thanks for the match, guys, that was really spectacular!

    Aside from the almost insane spam in elite undine assault, most matches have been pretty decent lately.

    One thing which does annoy me is in Undine Infiltration there are people who simply do not set their weapons to stun and kill hostile civilians thereby lowering the score.
    This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

    Those guys suck.

    True. I'm not sure if the undine battle zone also give a bonus package once a day, but amongst the STF's it's one of the fastest ways to get your daily undine marks.

    Sadly that's also the reason why many abuse it. They don't care about the regular marks since they're just there for the daily bonus.

    BZ gives the bonus package, yeah.

    Maybe Cryptic should change it so that Undine Infiltration only grants the bonus package if you get 8 or more of the suspects classified properly. That ought to help.

    and they supposedly actually work properly now...those and tholian red alerts might make for good mark farming for time-crunchers

    They really need to give that STF a massive rewards buff.
