I know it's unlikely to happen for this event, but please for the next event like this (we all know there will be more) add a contact to pick up the mission from with the 20 hour cool down timer displayed.
There are a couple of reasons for this;
1, sometimes you end up running the mission the next day but don't realise you're five minutes too early, so you end up having to run it again.
2, I may have a very busy afternoon planned, so I end up having to play at 2AM one day with one or two characters, then I can't play those characters the next day unless I leave it to 10PM at the earliest, which isn't always convenient. If I could pick it up on my toons when I'm free early in the day then I can play it at any point during the day without messing up my times for the next day.
The CE event last year had the same problem, and many people expressed their concerns about that back then, but those concerns appear to have fallen on deaf ears.
You already use my advised system for most other content in the game, Fleet Action daily, anniversary daily, winter event daily, summer event daily... so why not these featured events?

The mission itself is enjoyable, no one can deny that, but the problem is, its too long and tedious for the rewards you get. And the other huge problem is, to have only 20 days to gather 14 transporters. Its just stupid. I thought the purpose of a game was to relax and play when you want or you can. Cryptic must missed this somewhere.
I spent about 2hrs last night running the new Mirror Invasion Event mission on half-dozen characters. And here are my thoughts:
Pros:
I'm a DOff fan, and *IF* I can bring myself to repeat this boring and often frustrating mission 14 times I'll get a neat new promotional Duty Officer. Got to run it 84 times if I want to get the DOff on all my mains... Ugh, not looking forward to that.
Cons:
Time-wasting cutscene. The instructional video at the beginning is ... Well, instructional (sure isn't entertaining (even with the Obisek VO)), I guess, but I don't need to see it the six times I had to watch it today, much less the 14-84 times I'll be forced to watch it if I want to complete the Event. I recommend in the future you have something like this as a mandatory-view-once/optionally repeatable wrapper/prequel mission.
The fixed minimum time clock is a lame. I'm ok if there's a clock that forces you to hurry, but after set goals (repair the star base, close X rifts, etc.) are achieved the mission should proceed. I hate having to wait around for a timer to finish.
It gets annoying to clear an area and then while trying to close a rift or repair a satellite and just when you're about to complete the process another bad guy spawns and pings you for a point of damage that interrupts the work. I can't stress out utterly frustrating this is. Honestly, this reason alone is likely to make me quit this b***ch.
Unimpressive rewards. Granted there's a nice Event Reward, but the individual play-through rewards feel underwhelming for the effort.
I've got a lot keeping me busy with work and real life, and when I heard about a new Event I was excited to get back to playing STO for some distraction (after taking a month off), but this just is NOT fun. Honestly, this might be the first STO Event that I don't finish.
Outstanding post.
Especially when you've cranked the stations systems back up to level 5, Obisek says that the faster you do things the faster he can get things back online. Once the station is back at full power, every time you activate a power relay should shave time off of the clock.
I also like the idea that Science ships can use attacks to close the rifts, Tachyon beam, tachyon burst. Or alternate effects. For instance a Tyken's Rift or a gravity well stops ships from coming through, while Tachyon debuffs collapse the portals.
OR just make it impossible to disrupt the rift closing.
It doesn't make sense. If I'm closing the portal it should also be harder for a ship to fit through it. It's like in Voyager Endgame, where Admiral Janeway orders Voyager to seal the rift behind her. The Negh'Var couldn't just Deebo through it.
Lastly those rewards. Look, the way I see it it should be a straight simple rule, depending on your team this can be as hard and as long as any STF. If it's an elite Fleet Action STF, CE, Breach, Mirror Event Etc. Elite = 960 dilithium. Period.
This Mirror Invasion mission is just as significant a time and effort investment. I know that we're getting a big payoff for the event, but when the event is over it will still need to go up. More marks ain't cuttin it.
"Rise like Lions after slumber, In unvanquishable number, Shake your chains to earth like dew, Which in sleep had fallen on you-Ye are many they are few"
I think the main problem here is to force all the players to play almost every day to gather those 14 transporters in well, about 20-25 days. That doesnt let too much margin to avoid one day without doing the mission again and again, giving you a feeling of "work" more, than enjoy what you doing.
If i need to "eat" those large timers and those tedious minutes grinding something that , in my opinion is not so worthy, at least let us to rest 2 or 3 days from em. But no, cryptic , as always never cared about customers (in this case, players).
Ok, earlier I complained about having to watch the into/instructional video, and others replied I could ESC through it. I did find that now works for me. However, I'm still stuck for a minute (or however long it is) just sitting there. Lame.
After completing the mission another time on Saturday, I really just didn't enjoy it. Then yesterday when it came time to run again, I just didn't want to log in. So I didn't.
The DOff Collector in me wants the Mirrior Hakeev, but most of my Mains have plenty of purple DOffs and really don't need another Astrometrics Scientists. About the only ones that are short on high-level DOffs are my Romulan characters, and I got to thinking that really they don't like Hakkev. He's a very bad man who's done some very evil things to them. Sure, this is Mirrior Hakeev, not the same guy, but I can't see them wanting to be constantly reminded of him.
So yeah... I'm gonna pass on this.
Looks like The Mirrior Invasion Event of 2014 *IS* going to be the first STO Event I don't complete.
You can find/contact me in game as @PatricianVetinari. Playing STO since Feb 2010.
I like others would like the timer to be over ridden. If you close the maximum number of rifts it should move on to the next stage no matter how long is left on the timer. Yesterday I was in a couple of events where we had to wait atleast 2 minutes before the next stage started.

I think the esc option is really for people with hangar ships to get themselves set up.

They should do something about waiting 3-4 minutes for the boss ship to appear when you complete the first part of the PvE quickly and it stops spawning rifts. It's a waste of time, needs to get fixed.
Rifts continue to spawn until the timer runs out... They seem to spawn faster if there are more rifts out. So even if you closed 20 rifts and have the defense up to rank 5 with the starbase at full health with all blips dead and you have minutes to spare... rifts can still spawn, just more slowly.
Most PUGs seem to focus on raising the starbase defense up and ignore the rifts and let the starbase go down... Frankly I think closing rifts should be top priority, you dont want those battleships/typhons to come out of the rifts.
agreed, 2 out of the three times i played it today, people mostly ignored the rifts unless they were in the way and went straight to upping the defenses. Getting attacked by 3 Mirror Typhoon classes is not fun, especially in an Ar'kif.

Has anyone figured out which gives the more marks?
Is it more lucrative to focus on rifts, ships or power stations?
Of course, the most lucrative is two person teams on rifts, while one person flies round arming the station......but in those awful pugs, whats the best way to salvage what you can?

Rifts will potentially pay out more, but powering up the station pays most for the amount of time and effort that it takes. If you really want to get technical, the rifts also have a pretty direct correlation to the station's health, so you can add those 10 to their total, if you like. Personally, I'd say rifts, power stations, then ships, based on their total payouts. From what I've seen in PuGs from the queue, you don't have to worry about the power stations, because nearly everyone is right on those.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.
One of the most annoying things about playing this in a PuG is the science vessel captains who seem to think they need to agro everything in range of a rift instead of just closing the damned rift. When I run it with my science vessel captains, I tend to follow an escort around and they will agro whilst I close the rift then once the rift is closed I'll help mop up if anything is left. Move to the next rift and repeat. Though when I'm in with my escort captains and try to perform the same service with a science vessel captain, more often than not I'll go in and agro things then they come in and start trying to steal the agro. So now we're both fighting, and nobody is closing the damned rift so more ships keep coming through.

It doesn't help when no one will grab the aggro for the sci ships. I have been in this situation where people are just shooting things randomly, so I have to deal with what is there before I can close the rift. This tends to happen quite a bit, and even when I ask for help I get none they could even close the rift instead of taking the aggro as either way it gets closed.
Now when I have someone working with me like you mention then things go smoothly and I do exactly that. I close rift and then help with the clean up and then I grab aggro while they do relays and hen they help me clean up.
You need to be level 50. Anyways, dont bother, since you dont have enough time already to gather 14 transporters for the reward.. (well, actually you have time if you play every single day from today until the final day). this mission is only worthy to gather the transporter. It will fade out after the event, im sure of it LOL.

Yeah that happens too I've noticed at times. Really I think the biggest issue is that PuGs generally lack communication skills or any sort of coordination with team mates. Most people have this idea that they have to solo every aspect of the game, but situations like this don't really work out well with that attitude.

Well, I've reached my limits. I don't have issues with PUGs, they just force me to adapt and it keeps things interesting for me. The issues I do have are with the mission itself. 5 days, 8 characters each, it takes several hours to complete. From start, warp in, cancel cut scene, wait 40 seconds. Complete first round with anywhere from 2 to 6 minutes of dead time with nothing to do while waiting for the timer to count down. One of the PUGs I was in this morning each participant went afk for a bit. I made a cup of coffee, picked up the mail downstairs, etc., came back, and still had a minute to spare.
Is this what D'Angelo had in mind? Keep us all in game just for the sake of filling up the servers? He bashed the Dyson Rep for being too short, just wondering if this mission is a sign of things to come.

What's hilarious is that it is one of those missions you actually can't lose. No matter how good or bad you are the first part always finishes in the same amount of time. Almost makes it worth the sanity to just find a private group and just afk it, then pop back and finish the mission on the boss. On the plus side, this event has increased my news reading. Running through this on 6 toons with all the stupid forced too-long cutscenes, and the 4-5 minute waits for the clock to run out with nothing to do gives me a lot of time to alt tab and do other things.

I don't even bother to heal my ships anymore, I have like 10 hazards on each ship now. Show up, shoot a few things, die in creative ways, and I still get the prize just for being present. I feel very sorry for the few people actually trying to win this event every time with every toon. So many players are just playing enough to get the prize. Easiest free dil I ever earned, oh and a few other prizes. I am reading a scientific american magazine during the event and only occasionally tweaking the action on my screen.

I played four times today on normal, the lowest pay out was 46 marks and I got max 50 twice.
The teams pretty much did it right, aggro, rifts, power station repeat.

I've had that problem before on both sides. My response is usually stop shooting and wait for the aggro to come off.
My biggest problem is when the team isn't together, I'll wrap one section and move to the next and the wing man goes the opposite direction and doesn't catch up, so I end up swarmed with no one coming to grab the aggro so I can close the bloody rift.

Just great, first I've got no prize at all with my romulan character (had full inv, true, but overflow bag was empty), and even though reputation screen says I have transporter device, there's none in my inventory/bank/whatever and adding it to project don't work. Today, with fed char I've got makrs box, but no transporter device

Elite should give 960 Dilithium
Otherwise, it's nice to have something new to do. I've found the mission itself enjoyable.

What do you mean? IT is simple, just listen to what Obiesk says and follow his instructions.
Unless the poster is below 50 and can't find it in the list and doesn't know you have to be 50 to be able to play it.
If you're level 50, look at the PvE queue list.
It's a fair way down, in alphabetical order.
If you're not level 50, have fun levelling.....sadly this event wont be for you unless you level up pretty quickly.

If only it weren't so boring. At leat battlezone drowns you in dil without being quite as needlessly repetitive.
