I kind of like the new website style, it is simple and sleek; but I did open the media page and I wish like with the old site you could sort wallpapers, screenshots, and videos.

Here's a weird one: I bookmarked the News page of the revamped web site, and logged in. My browser is set to remember my password. Now, when I go to the main Arc site, I am logged in, but when I click on the Forums link, I am not logged in to the forums. I seem to be consistently logged out of the forums automatically when I close my browser, even though I remain logged in to the Arc site.
You're right. The work here is very important.

You can still sort :) Use the dropdown under the "product page" button (upper right).

The move to the Arc site doesn't surprise me, ever since that (semi) new Arc beta came out i had a feeling that most, if not all, Perfect World games would be consolidated.

But that aside, could we get the RSS feed updated, i just subscribed to the new feed in my browser and am regaled with the news of the new Kumari escorts... really? has this feed been updated at all in the past 12 months?

I'd appreciate it if the new RSS feed would have some new news please.

    Thank you.

If you let it auto-redirect instead of clicking the "Go To Arc Games" button, it will go to the news/sto site.

Not sure why different, but ya :/.

Indeed it does. Hopefully the link taking you to the wrong page is just an oversight, then.
Agreed entirely. It is a MASSIVE waste of space with little substance. I go to the site to read news but I have to scroll down an entire screen height just to get to the latest news posts. The rotating banner is not kept up to date and is basically just an ad (thank god ad block can block by div id). The next section is videos that I have no interest in looking at because they are already embedded in the blog posts I want to read and there is a whole page dedicated to media. If I want to see all videos at once, I'll go there. Otherwise I'll watch them in the individual posts they are embedded in.

I have to disagree. A lot more news is shown now and it's presented in a more interesting, space efficient manner. On my monitor, I can see everything you show and the first row of news posts. That's 4 of infiinite entries, whereas on the old site, I can see 3 of 5 news entries without scrolling, and have to change pages to see more.

Now, I think they should have something like this (available by clicking +more on a news article) placed somewhere more accessible, and with images and more of the text included, like the old site. A full page news overview, basically.

New STO site sucks. And it's like they are teasing you by letting you see the old site as the redirect countdown is counting down. "Look there's the good site, nah nah na-na nah! :P"

Boxes everywhere. Is it suppose to look like Windows 8? Not a fan.

I'd like to go on the record as saying that I am one of the people who paid two hundred dollars extra to get a separate copy of Windows 7 to replace Windows 8 on my newest computer. The tile-like interface may be nice for touchscreens, but it is murder on anybody who actually wants to type anything.

i might not be the only one with this, but when i tried to use the slandered game launcher without arc it kept getting "error 36: a file is locked from being opened to write". the second i launched arc and opened the launcher through it, everything worked fine. so was this a small issue on my end or do we have to use arc?

The new website is an eye sore that, much like these antiquated forums, is missing many basic features found on most mmo websites. (*For instance server status information is no longer shown on the website*)

The second problem is the layout, it is one big jumbled/cluttered mess. A website is suppose to have items that catch your eye and draw you to look, all this website makes me want to do is close my browser or click on my home icon to find something else to look at.

So, I'm that idiot that purchased the lifetime sub waaaaay back when the game launched, played for 6 months and hasn't played much since. I got a wild hair and decided I wanted to check the game out again, after all, I did shell out the cash for a lifetime sub, right? I have to log in with my perfect world username...

I don't have one of those.

Lets follow the directions then on linking accounts.

Wait, I can't, because the perfect world website redirects me to Arc 8 seconds after I click any link to try and access my account or interact with any aspect of the website.

For the record, I tried to do this a couple of weeks ago as well, but the links in the knowledge base were all broken and the username/password recovery wasn't working either (email's to support were no help, when they replied, they were canned responses). I finally got my old Cryptic info squared away, but now... well, you just read what is happening now.

It is real easy to get to the forums. When on the main arcgames site, you click social and boom there is all the games with sto up on the first line. Click forum and boom there you go.

And NO not all the members don't want ARC. Forum posters are the minority, majority of the players don't even come on the forums cause they are too busy playing the game.

I have been using ARC since day 1 when they did the first release of it last year and have never had a single issue with it.

STO has been officially migrated over to the new Arc website layout.

...if you have any feedback or questions, let us know.

    ...

    the Arc Team

Love the massive WARNING message for the STO wiki link. Way to scare potential users, shun community.

The "Guides" section, needs to be renamed "FAQs" or similar.
You've bundled just about everything that tells you about the game under there. "Guides", is what that section is not.

The black "Arc bar" up top, sure have it if you must, but shrink it by at lease half the height and make the Star Trek Online things bigger. Like at top of current forums.
You're temped half the time to click the Arc links thinking they're relating to STO. We've gone to the STO landing page, make it focus on that, not pushing the adware. Poor design.

No STO logo!? Thought the PWE marketing overlords would have heard about something called branding and product recognition. Or will this become stArc Trek Online?

"Product page" is essentially "About STO" with spam about other games up top. Rename to "About STO" so they know where to go to get a run down on the game, sys min specs etc.

Home page itself content wise, while more flashy than old site, is confusing. Whats the latest news? I only know because I've been keeping up. Please consider putting dates in each news square so it's obvious.

    Wallpapers, where?

    Foundry, where?

Tribble/red shirt toon transfer page, where?

Is the game free-to-play? No mention anywhere on home page. Have to dig deep.

Patch notes link on home page. Where?

Social media and RSS links for STO on homepage. Where?

    Are the servers up?

Does Cryptic exist as a developer any more? No Cryptic branding on the site anywhere I can see. Down the bottom here is just PWE and ARC logos. Looks like Cryptic if they do still exist have themselves gotten the publicity shaft.
Also the uninstall, career etc links down there don't show on home page due to endless loading of old stuff. No footer.

How do you return back to the STO home landing page without hitting the back button in the browser?? "Star Trek Online" needs to be a link for that. Oh figured out "News" is that. Maybe rename "News/Home"?

I think that'll do for now.

Ahhhh *sigh of relief* there we go, much better. Thank god for adblock and client-side greasemonkey/stylish hacks.

Yikes, talk about PWE really pushing things. The new website is pretty indicative of the way PWE sees Trek, Cryptic, and us as the players. ARC in giant letters at the top of the screen, full logo and everything...yet the "Star Trek Online" title is in small font beneath? Insulting, stupid, and quite frankly (as others have already noted in this thread) likely to be a turn-off for new potential players or Trekkies interested in playing a game of the franchise. Well, if PWE keeps doing things EA-style as an overbearing publisher, people are not going to be terribly amenable to sticking around.

There goes the last piece of individuality...
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

    - The prefix number for STO is: NO-ARC-ONLY-1701.
    - Assuming ARC&PWE haven't changed the combination. They are quite intelligent.

    Might be worth a try.

I have to agree with a lot of what people are saying here. This whole arc thing being forced on us was bad enough, but now the website has been dropped in favor of a setup that really doesn't seem to be an actual website. This is the kind of page you get from accidentally clicking a link in your spam folder, and frankly with what i hear and read about PWE, i wouldn't doubt that it was just as shady.

Frankly, i don't like it, it really just adds to the feeling that Cryptic and and PWE especially don't care about the fans, the players, or the IP. It's just unappealing in every way.

You know, you would think that given how massively unsuccessful of a campaign PWE has had with ARC they would have abandoned and given up on it by now due to not just all the massive negative feedback they have been getting slammed with as compared to how many people they are paying for there cheap plugs and praises of it but also due to the fact that PWE is just going to wind up losing money over it hand over fist because it's proving to be a massive fail buisness venture.

I will put more money in to STO when you drop the ARC TRIBBLE until then however i have a perfectly good ultimate game card sitting in front of me worth 20 bucks and because of the website change refuse to spend it since it is my way of saying to hell with ARC. Personally i think the new website blows and honestly think that PWE paid some crack addict to create it.

The layout sucks, it lacks information that the original site had, gives you not just a massive redirection warning which scared the TRIBBLE outta me cause in all honesty that's how virus infected web domains act but also gives you a tracking cookie warning at the top of the site.

Hell i even showed my girlfriend who has never even watched star trek nor has ever been interested in it and even she said the new website sucks compared to the old one.

Bottom line, revert back to the old site and sue and/or fire the crack addict that made the new site cause realistically it truely does suck.

    Hey Captains!

As you can tell, STO has been officially migrated over to the new Arc website layout. You will now automatically be redirected to this site and no longer the old one. We want to inform you that this does NOT mean Arc is mandatory, and that you can still access your games through the old launchers. As always, we are aware of player concerns, so if you have any feedback or questions, let us know.

    Thanks,

    Sparkiesoft and the Arc Team

I love the doubletalk in this post, absolutely love it, it pretty much punctuates exactly what I have been trying to get across to people since PWE bought Cryptic.

They are aware of our concerns, but ultimately it shows they don't care.

feature after feature in this game has been removed and/or put behind a money wall.

the website migrated over despite our objections.

I fully expect Arc to become mandatory despite our objections eventually.

While at the same time, being told, "No we are not doing the very thing your saying we are doing."

    classic double talk.

Okay, my videos finished uploading so here is how I'm using the old site.

Internet explorer and Firefox is able to remove it without any plugins. There is an option to inspect elements and to remove them.

First thing I did to give myself more time is to repeated hit the escape key to cancel the redirect action when the timer hit zero.

    http://youtu.be/uPwGn2Y31SU

The interesting thing is the page is still fully functional. The problems I ran into is if I clicked a link the timer would pop up again before following. I had to right click and open in a new tab each time and repeat the removal process.

The place where this came in handy was copying my characters over to tribble. (Main reason I tried.)

The single biggest problem with the Arc migration, other than the institutional grey theme of the site overall, is the level of immediate differentiation between games. Their individual logos and sub-themes need to be very prominent and a sufficient amount of actual -information- regarding the game for a prospective new customer who is totally unfamiliar with the site needs to be front and center. Would it kill you to put in a descriptive text block rather than all of these scrolling media links and dynamic tiles?

What's the name of the game? What's the setting? How much does it cost? What are the system requirements?

If I were coming in cold I could very easily think that the -game- was called Arc. Arc is a shell, a loader, the dim younger cousin of a browser. Arc is -not- what you're selling, Star Trek Online is. Neverwinter is. Champions Online is. Those are the names and logos that should be most prominent: even if you have to tie everything back to a PWE main theme -those- are the names people are looking for.
