Or even if there is a solution it might not be economical. Let's just assume its a problem with their networks capacity. What do they do to fix it? Pay for the upgrade to a faster system just to hedge their bets against the two or three major content releases per year that might explode in their faces? Where's the sense in spending that money on so small a time frame if only to avoid a little forum rage that never seems to pan out into anything more substantial once those servers do get back online.
Just sit back folks, watch an episode or two of star trek, and simply keep an eye on that server indicator light.
Historically when too many players are online there's a waiting queue. That hasn't been the case at all with this update. I highly doubt this is because of traffic unless they got rid of the waiting queue but I can't see as to why they'd feasibly remove a stop loss measure.
I also doubt they'll tell us exactly what went wrong either because it wasn't player traffic.
And, ONCE AGAIN, just minutes from finishing the storyline...
But, hey: wouldn't be an anniversary without a crash or two (or three, or four...), right?
By the way, you forgot to include the number of initial crashes post-"fix(es)"/update(s) in the demographics and stats. Ought to toss that in, just to be thorough.
And, sorry, with this frustration today, I must echo/parallel two or three others here in the thread: Step #1 for successful updating: Make sure ALL works as completely as possible, THEN Step #2) put it onto Tribble in the beta stage, test, test, and RE-TEST and, most importantly, Step #3) Actually LISTEN to the folks who test it out for you (for, uh, free, I might add), tell you where your problems are, make suggestions, and so on. Step #4) Endeavor to make/implement said corrections/bug fixes/etc. that are practical, efficient, and reasonable, then TEST AGAIN. THEN, once satisfied you've covered most everything, release the update.
There will always be bugs; always kinks. But, if you rush to PLEASE the customer, NOT get them to crack open their wallets and such for new "shineys," I guarantee you will make even MORE money than you think you will rushing a product!
A satisfied player base is much more willing to buy electronic, otherwise useless trinkets if they think you are trying to make their game enjoyable, relaxing; an escape from the pressures and stresses of real life - not pick their pockets. We get enough of that everywhere else.

No, they've had content problems all day, the 'network down' bull is them trying to get some of it fixed without actually admitting they broke it in the first place.
Same feeling here.

Ok, I am a total n00b. I played for 3 months when the game launched. I just came back and it seems like I chose a cool time to do so, especially since I rolled a new Science Officer.
Someone mentioned grind. Seriously, have you played other MMO's?
Here is my calculation of this so called "grind" - do the mission with Tuvok (!), get 400 Qmendations. The other Q quest gets 40 per day. That's one mission every day for 15 days (600 Qmendations).
That's it just to get this new Dyson ship? Does anyone remember the grind to get the dragon mount in WoW? That was a grind.
Ok, yes, if you rolled 10 characters, and you want them for each, then yes, it's a grind, oh wait, shoot, all of you rolled 10+ characters.
Yeah...it is a grind for you.
just use lobi crystals from the lock box i had about 300 lobi and got about 800 q marks
Y'know, I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case. There have a LOT of angry grips since the beginning of the month and I wouldn't be surprised if this was a case of "Ha HA! Now you'll give us everything, Cryptic."

yeah I agree, but it is also ten freaking ships, people just need something to complain about little babies. Replace the word GRIND with PLAY, your playing a damn GAME, not working, not shoveling **** in the barn, PLAYING a game is not WORK or a grind, using those terms for a game is PATHETIC. Must be a clueless child posting TRIBBLE like that clueless of the real word. Or a lifetime bum and leech on their fellow man.
im getting quite annoyed with this... every time i try to play, the server crashes. wanted to play all day but havent been able to
get your TRIBBLE together Cryptic because people are getting right annoyed and your gonna start losing paying customers. im almost ready to un-install the game and never play it again!!!
Server and game are fine, if you ever have anything other than new positive words, you are griping and should shut up
You can't seriously believe you are going to make any significant number of gamers stop griping, especially by assuming you are in a position of authority and impudently tell people what they should do, can you?

Perfect World bought Cryptic a few years ago. Cryptic is a subsidiary development house of Perfect World, as is Perfect World Entertainment (PWE).
lol
What mental institution did you escape from?
If the Servers and the game were fine there wouldn't be a little red dot on the launcher it would be green.
Green equals fine
Red equals f**ked up
