Yes, I'd only be interested in a Doctor Who MMO if there were playable Daleks and Cybermen.

I dunno, I'd be happy with the TARDIS and David Tennant.

Or Christopher Eccleston. Or Tom Baker. Anyone but Matt Smith, really.

What about planet of the apes? Or Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy? An mmo where a towel is the most valuable item.

Hitchhiker's would be a hilarious MMO all about exploration.

    Quark

The misadventures of an outer space garbage collector and his crew.

Seriously funny for older people who lived through the 70's.

    who you callin' older?

I survived the 70's, and to me, "an outer space garbage collector and his crew" conjures up ...Andy Griffith?!

And I don't remember either of those.

To adequately enunciate how hard I concur with your statement.

"an outer space garbage collector and his crew"

Yes that is exactly what it was. But it was SO ahead of its time. It had a robot, a intelligent plant, a wo/man - 2 people in one body, a clone - one person in 2 bodies, and a mork-n-mindy type cast.

    Quark (1977, Opening)

I always thought Discworld would make a great MMO. They would have to get the comedy right but it would be tons of fun.

Babylon 5 would be a pretty decent one.

    Seconded.

Because the series was Babylon 5, there's so much of the surrounding universe left untouched or unmentioned. Personally, I'd enjoy being able to play one of the 'renegade' Earthforce officers from the Earth Alliance Civil War, or maybe a Narn resistance fighter...

^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...

    Dune.
The intrigue, wars, and trade among the great Houses practically cries for an MMO. And it would be natural for the guilds to be lesser Houses aligned with a great House. The variety of character types: mentats, Bene Gesurit, Face Dancers, etc. fits MMO-style class selection, and Fremen and Sadakur could be epic classes unlocked after your first maxed out character.

If I can cheat a little bit, I'd say a John Carter of Mars/Barsoom MMO would be awesome sauce.

Ground and Air Combat with customizable air skiffs & sky-ships (like STO)

A choice of races like the:
    Red Martians (heliumites, zodongans, etc)
    Green Martians (Tharks, Warhoons, etc)
    White Martians
    Yellow Martians
    Black Martians
    Humans

Multiple classes like Marksman/woman, Swordsman/woman, Scientists, (Thark Scientists, anyone XD)

Mounts and Combat pets like Banths, Callots, White Apes (hey, could happen)

    Lots of exotic, gorgeous locales

    (nudity. There, I said it)

(Also, I'd dump the conceit of "all the planets are in the same system", and instead introduce the idea of short-range FTL to get around - and you can't go to Earth-that-was because one, it's too far away, and two, all records of the route have been erased.)
I do agree, there should be a local cluster of planet-rich systems, not a single system. There were just too many terraformed moons and planets to justify a single system.

In other material they eventually settled on the franchise taking place inside a cluster of several small stars orbiting a red giant.

Hehe, in theory a loosely bound star cluster could do that.

It kinda reminds me of the old Space Ghost cartoon where he'd just fly to other planets, apparently without FTL.... But it was a silly cartoon.... :P

The 'g' is lower-case. It's one word, not Star Gate.

What I know happened is that Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, the dev team that was put together specifically to produce Stargate Worlds, went bankrupt before the game was finished, and apparently (possibly due to MGM's financial troubles at the time) nobody was interested in buying it off them.

I actually had an idea about a B5 MMO set in "The Lost Years" where you start as one of the races of The Alliance and you have a 1 in 100 chance of your character being a telepath (of low level at first, but enhanceable with Vorlon tech/Dust/other).
I also loved the idea of SG-1 (and hoped it would be a little further in the future so we had General Carter running the SGC and Tok'ra, Jaffa, humans and Tollan survivors are your starting races as members of a newly formed SG team)... alas!

But I have a new idea...

    Tripping the Rift.

I would play the hell out of that.

Firefly- Yes I am saying this despite naysayers. It would be pretty cool and a bit of fun.

Mobile Suit Gundam- So many to pick from here as far as timelines go or you go by the meta of the series which is in Turn A Gundam. But hey who doesn't like using mechs to beat the snot out of each other. My preference is the UC timeline as it contains the much deeper content or so. Not that the alternate ones are terrible or UC is the best thing ever (it has moments of sheer terrible). But Hawken shows that it is possible to make that kind of gameplay with MSG and its universe perks you have a perfect style MMO..

Transformers- Very viable here too for the same reasons for Mobile Suit Gundam.

    Farscape

    Stargate

Dune- Again a lot to pick from here.

    Macross

Those are the ones I can name on the top of my head.

Well, there is Firefly. Umm, Firefly. Oh and Firefly. Firefly, Firefly, Firefly and am I forgetting one?

    Oh yes, FIREFLY!

At least there's a boardgame version of it now. Hope it stays in print longer than the TV series was "allowed" to survive by Fox. What I actually think of Fox (okay, and the BBC of 1989 for killing off Doctor Who for 16 years) will remain unsaid here, as it is mostly Anglo-Saxon monosyllables. After all, Fox also killed off "John Doe" after one season. Anything remotely intelligent on Fox and WB must be killed off. Cannot allow intelligent programming to exist where it might be watched and listened to by an intelligent audience member or two.

I agree completely. Fox exists to dumb down the audience so that Faux News can preach lies at them and be believed.

My advice? Stick with MGM, Paramount, and any Marvel Studios stuff that isn't Agents of SHIELD (because they really dropped the ball with that show).

Havn't read all the posts but I say WING COMMANDER. It was an awesome cartoon and the early games were awesome and fun!

Also I'd say Farscape! very underrated and cut too short show!
