Just as you hit a corner at full speed *ice boots or just normal sprint* Just jump , change your direction and rinse and repeat ... never once have I lost a race and I did 8 today.

or maybe you're just really unlucky.

Didnt try it this year but last year you could just repeat the race if you fail. Just dont "return" it and instead just drop the mission. You can get the mission from the breen again and try a second/third/... run

also try not to run too much if you have problems cause you can win it just walking at least mainly. Just run on start and finish and walk the rest.

I know how to repeat if you fail thanks ive been doing that for the last 12hrs
your suggestion does not work as the opponent will pass you as soon as you stop running.

your not listening ive tried all the tricks.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Why not just make it so Q just sits in the middle of the gazebo, and when you run up to him, he just says "Hey, thanks for showing up." And then just gives you all the rewards? There's only a couple of the NPCs that should give you even a hint of a challenge, and that's only if you let them pass you, in the final stretch. You only need to give the ship a miss, if you don't want it bad enough. You need to practice more.

yes, thanks for the empathy and understanding that's really helpful.

maybe 12hrs practice isn't enough, but I would think if I haven't won it by then against every opponent they throw at me I never will.

The race is exactly the same as last year, and the year before that. nothing has changed.

the only problem that they may or may not have fixed is there was a bug at the start, where two people could signal the breen and you would not be transported to the start line and it would fail. if thats the case, its a bug.

otherwise its no different than before.

okay so recap: Summer event was fly around in an amount of time no need to be first or whatever... good. was doable specially as daily grind.

well winter event. due to all the lag and DCs... i wont get this ship no matter if running or not tried it 12 times yesterday and thats enough for me.

it should be not to win it. but to stay on course and complete in a normal amount of time.

no yay no daily grind for the ship for me xD.

but i really think they should alter the race to make possible for all to get it that want to participate.
not just the ones that know the tricks or have a decent connection for ground movement.

I don't know.....I'm just jumping at the corners while letting go of direction keys, and then sprinting everywhere else, and I finish a pretty good distance in front of the AI opponent, so no problems there - and I have 400-500 ping sometimes, so it can't be that hard, unless there's some weird bug that only affects some people.

Key is to use the right-click-hold on the mouse to change direction in mid-air, not keyboard.

I thought the summer event was much better to but I would still be happy to run the race twice or even four times more then the ones who win first time to get the prize so why not give a second place prize of 20 or 10 then just make it so once you have the 40 pics you need you cannot run again for 20hrs.

lost count of how many times ive tried now :(

Last year yes it's the same, but last year they changed it from the year before, I remember relearning the course.

Back to the OP I have a friend with the same difficulty, while I don't personally have the same problem I do understandem the frustration of such a situation. All I can say is keep trying and eventually you'll get better, or perhaps you know someone that could help, say a brother/sister or close friend.

-hugs- hope it gets better for you and my friend.

I did the race so may times last year I got the ship on three toons. I've basically got it down to a science now. I don't even stop running any more, I don't jump, and I don't roll. I just sprint and do hard 180 degree turns. It sounds to me that what you need is someone to teach you how to do it. I would do it, but I've got to go somewhere soon. If you want, at around 1:00 P.M. EST I would be willing to do so.

I hate finish of the fastest game on ice! I got to the third position only because someone that was 2 m behind me took the 2. flag first! Its like that defera temple console when two or more people try to click it. Thats so annoying !

yes tried it as I said ive tried all the tricks.

You obviously didn't, because you're still not winning the race.

I'm using the same technique I used last year and I win every single time.

Sprint on the straight stretches, jog in the turns, and begin your turn -before- you actually get to it, so you drift through it.

    Like so: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLtqGkRiXPw

Also, try to memorize the layout of the track. That way you'll remember where you're supposed to start sprinting as you come out of a corner, so by the time you hit the straight stretch you're already moving at full speed.

You don't even have to jump mid-air, just don't sprint. I would also suggest running on the snow as much as possible, instead of running on the ice. It will prevent you from sliding. And when you have two turns ahead of you, don't try to negotiate them, just run straight ahead without turning.

I think your talking about the fast and flurious race.
there is no third place in the fastest game on ice only first and last.
    there isn't any flags either.

you obviously haven't heard of this thing called dexterity, some people have it to a greater degree then others.
and believe me I have memorized the layout of the track so well after running it so many times I could most likely run it in my sleep, but I just cant run it very fast using any of the tricks or tactics anyone might suggest sadly.

your not listening ive tried all the tricks.

    Apparently not.

Try rolling. Double tap the "w" key. This will kill your momentum. It is the most effective means of stopping your slide.

Try running up on the edges of the inner snow banks when coming to a turn.

It can be done. I'm confident that you can do it.

Are you physically challenged? If, that is the case, then you may want to consider contacting PWE customer service and requesting a special consideration status be placed on your account.

It's easy enough to beat your chump, the chump of the guy who started before you, and sometimes even the guy himself. And sometimes you don't even get a chump. Your chump can apparently get himself disqualified before the race starts.

Hm. I failed twice against "chumps" last night.

I was wondering if the race got a bit harder or the chumps got a bit faster or I was just too rusty at running the track.

    Number three, then. :o

Winter race is fine, same as last year. Just remember to anticipate the tight turns and often use the double tap key to roll during those precarious turns, you should be fine.

I failed the race about 4 times until I just said TRIBBLE it and just ran the whole track- no tricks. I just ran the whole thing and tried to anticipate the turns.

The only way I have ever lost is by going off the course by accident. I don't think it is an actual race. Last night I even went in the wrong direction for a piece of the track, turned around and still won.

As others do the race why dont you just run behind them and mimick everything they do until you got the hang of it? That should be the easiest way to learn how to race. I had some problems at first also but after i realized you can cut corners it got quite easy. Did the chel grett on 5-6 chars after that so just keep trying and watch/mimick others

Sort of on topic but I've noticed running the races on my Fed main who is an alien at nearly maximum height is more challenging than on my Rom alt who is ~160cm. Not sure if character height is factored into how well a character holds traction but for myself I do have to account for it when doing races with each character.

yeah I have to vote for #3 too. I did it 3 times yesterday and I had no issues winning. I even screwed one up so horribly, that I probably came an inch from getting DQed, but I still won.

Last year, I did it so many times that I got to the point I could almost sprint the entire race... I need to practice a bit before I try that.

First time I did the the race. I didn't even know there was an opponent...just did it and won.

Just run through the whole course and roll in the direction acute to the barriers...

There was a poster that lacks motor skills due an accident or an illness or something....that is a valid excuse to not be able to do this. And I feel for that person. But if you have a head on your shoulders, no lack of motor skills...you should be able to do this.

Run and roll. The race is the same as last year. I don't use the winter boots because they actually hinder my performance. I win and I almost can touch the opponent from the guy in front of me.
